MISSION STATEMENT Columbia Art Center is dedicated to providing artisticexperiences in the visual arts for all ages and interest levels and to connect with localart organizations and community businesses in creating diverse offerings.

OVERVIEWColumbia Art Center offers year-round art classes, rotating galleryexhibitions, a gallery gift shop, summer art camp for children, art birthday parties,studio rentals, a Japanese Garden, art and life enhancement lectures, and more!Columbia Art Center is part of Columbia Association’s Community ServicesDivision. Under Columbia Association, Columbia Art Center is 27 years old. It has been a functioning arts school for more than 40 years and was formerlyknown as the Antioch Visual Arts Center.

LOCATION Columbia Art Center is located in the Long Reach Village Center(next to Stonehouse Community Center) just minutes from Route 175 and Tamar Drive.

DIRECTIONS From Route 29, take 175 East towards Jessup. Follow 175 for several miles to the light at Tamar Drive. Turn left on Tamar and go one mile. Turn right on Cloudleap Court. Turn left into Long Reach Village Center parkinglot. Art Center is located in the courtyard past the fountain (look for large roundwindow). From I-95, take the MD 100 West exit (43B) towards Ellicott City. Take the Snowden River exit (3). Enter the roundabout and take the second exitonto Snowden River Parkway. Turn right on Tamar Drive and drive .5 miles.Turn left at Cloudleap Court. Park in the Long Reach Village Center lot on left.Columbia Art Center is located in courtyard beyond the fountain (look for largeround window).

School’s Out Program for grades 1-8When Howard County public schools are out, come to Columbia Art Center for an amazingday of creative fun and go home with cool art projects. Bring a friend, make new friends, bringa lunch, and enjoy a fun day of art! (Children will be served a snack and beverage after 3:30pm.)Registration can be taken until the day before the School’s Out date. The program lessonswill be available to view a month before each date.

School’s Out Youth Visiting Artist Series for grades 5-8Columbia Art Center is pleased to invite students ages 10-14 to participate inits Visiting Artist Series. The series is designed to encourage young artists to

improve their technical skills while acquiring a sense of personal expression. The program provides an opportunity for students to connect with community

artists and to cultivate a passion for the arts. Guest instructors will discuss theirpersonal art and creative process while teaching a unique and challenging workshop.

RENTALSColumbia Art Center rentals are available in our art galleries,studio rooms and Japanese garden. Enjoy a unique setting filled with originalart for your next event. Art displays change regularly. Our rooms accommodate bridal and baby

showers, corporate meetings, art and craft group meetings, lectures, art project rentals, birthday

parties and celebrations of all sorts, even small weddings. Columbia Art Center provides tables

and chairs. Room setup and take down are responsibility of renter. Please allow set-up and

take-down time in your rental timeframe. For an additional fee, Columbia Art Center can set up

room. Catering is not provided by Columbia Art Center. Please call Columbia Art Center at 410-730-0075

ART FOR ALL For ages 7-9with Tabitha AbrahamArt For All is a class designed for children with specialneeds. Columbia Art Center is excited to offer a classespecially designed for children with different abilities.Art is all positive as there is no right or wrong way; it’s a form of self-expression. Each class will provide a small group of children an opportunity to enjoy a multi-sensory experience, delving into various materialsand creating art projects which they can take home.Create cards, ornaments, sculptures, and accessoriesusing clay, fabric, paper, and recycled materials. Eachclass will be based on a story book or theme that will be tailored to the child’s special abilities. These classeswill not only help participants create art, but will helpthem to learn life skills, social skills, problem-solvingskills, motor skills, time management, and help them to build confidence. Drawings will be developed bycarefully observing still life subject matters under lightsources. You will use charcoal, pencils and pastel drawingmediums. PORTRAIT DRAWING FOR TEENS For ages 11-17with Korey RosenbaumDraw from live models! Ideal for homeschoolers! Begin withclassroom studies of basic proportion and careful observationto achieve likeness and form. Learn skills which addressdrawing accuracy and explore modern techniques that focus onexpressiveness through a variety of media and approaches. Livemodels will be used in the final 3 sessions. TEEN WHEEL-THROWING For ages 12-17with Joe VitekFor both total beginners and those with clay experience!This class is designed for students who wish to learn thefundamental skills involved with making pottery on thewheel. All the basics from clay preparation, throwingtechniques, and glazing will be taught, as well as opportunitiesfor some hand-building. You can expect to learn how tomake vases, mugs, bowls, and plates, as well as other formsaccording to ability and desire. COMIC CREATIONS FOR TEENS For ages 12-17with Clinton WhiteIf you ever wondered how to create comics or how to drawin anime/manga style, then this is the workshop for you!With the guidance of live drawing demonstrations, discoverhow to draw and design characters in both western andJapanese“manga” comic book styles. Explore techniques forcreating engaging characters, costumes and expressions. Thisworkshop includes discussion, demonstration of basic storycreation, and page layout. Class Policies& ProceduresINCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY If Howard County public schools are closed due

to inclement weather, Columbia Art Center will not hold daytime adult classes or any youth

classes. For information regarding adult afternoon and evening classes and all weekend classes,

please call Columbia Art Center at 410-730-0075.

DISCOUNTS Individuals who live or work full-time on Columbia Association assessed

property pay the discounted “Resident” tuition for classes. All others must pay the

“Non-Resident” tuition. Access to CA facilities and programs may be denied to a

Columbia Resident (member or non-member) whose property is the subject of a

covenant violation referred to the Architectural Resource Committee for Action.

SUPPLIES Adult students are responsible for purchasing their own materials for most

classes. Refer to course description for clarification or call Columbia Art Center for additional

information. A supply list for adult classes will be supplied upon registration.

CANCELLATION AND TUITION REFUNDS Columbia Art Center reserves the

right to cancel any class for any reason. In the event Columbia Art Center must cancel a class,

refund of tuition is guaranteed. Tuition cannot be credited, prorated or refunded after the first

day of class. No prorated tuitions will be given; full tuition is required. If you have any questions

about the content or focus of the class, please contact Columbia Art Center before the class

begins.

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY Columbia Art Center has a zero tolerance policy for class

disruption and aggression towards staff, instructors, students and visitors. Any type of aggressive

behavior may be grounds for removal from Columbia Art Center. Columbia Art Center reserves

the right to suspend or terminate class participation and usage of Columbia Art Center for

inappropriate or abusive behavior or class disruption. No credits or refunds will be granted.
