Who? What? When? Where? Why?

- Who?- Kindergarten Students

- What?- Learn about color mixing

- When?- Early in the winter (after we have learned all of our color words!)

- Where?- In the classroom, using the Smart Board in order to have discussions. Will be

posted to classroom website after in order for students to review.

- Why?- To help students understand the different between primary and secondary

colors!

What are we doing today?

• Today we are going to learn about 2 different types of colors.

• You already know all about the 2 primary colors, but there is another type of color too!

• Are you ready? Lets see what we need!

Supplies• Food coloring

o Yellowo Redo Blue

• 3 big glasses with water

• 3 small empty glasses

we have 3 empty glasses.

• I wonder why there isn’t more food coloring.

• We know all 3 primary colors.

• We know how to read color names.

• We know how to spell color words!

• What do you want to learn?

Primary Colors• Can you name the primary color that starts with

‘r’?

RED!

Primary Colors• Can you name the primary color that starts with ‘b’?

BLUE!

Primary Colors• Can you name the primary color that starts with

‘y’?

YELLOW!

Can you name them all?

• Name all of the primary colors starting on the left.

• We have ALL 3 primary colors!

Let’s Review!• We just made 3 more colors!

• These 3 colors are called secondary colors.

• You make secondary colors using the 3 primary colors!

• Remember primary colors can’t be made with any other colors.

your own colors!

• You will need • Watercolor paints• Paper• Water in a cup

• Don’t forget your name and HAVE FUN!

Things to keep in mind• This lesson was designed for Kindergarten students.• It is not expected that they can read all of the words at this

time.• The students would complete this lesson in class on the

Smart Board with the teacher leading the lesson.o The cups of water would also be set at the beginning of the room, in order to hook the

students. The supplies would then be put in the science center for the students to use later in the day.

• After the lesson, it will be put on the classroom website for students to share with their parents.

• After going through the lesson, the students will be given the opportunity to use water colors and create their own mixing paper.

• The background and wording was kept very basic to help those students who are able to read.
