College Magazine ProjectKyanna Sutton
To begin with, I got a picture of the medium close-up, cut out the back ground on the image and changed the colouring to black and white. I used myself to be the model as people had already taken the pictures of me as the model for medium close-up, and I
wanted to get the pose of what I had done on my sketch as I thought this would be more effective.
I then tried out some brushes behind the image. I downloaded some brushed from http://psbrushes.net/ and tried some ideas out and came up with this design. I felt it was a nice simple idea but didn’t give the right look what I was looking for.
I un-done all editing I had done, and decided to stick with a coloured image. I got the magnetic lasso and selected everything apart from my skin and edited the image by using colour bend. I felt this really made the image bolder, and was the idea I had been aiming
for the magazine cover, as it stood out and made a cold statement.
I then made my masthead by going on http://www.dafont.com/ and made the logo of ‘MBS’ which being a music/performing arts college stands for; Music, Bands and Singers, as I like
the idea of which the magazine ‘NME’ used. Again going along with my sketch I found a brush with the kiss mark. Originally I had a dice added to the image. But felt as I had used a
female model it seemed a better fit to use the kiss.
I then added my main cover-line which had a quote, from an interview which was inside the magazine. I put my ‘exclusive’ line I my third left, I made it stand out as I
thought it would look more effective.
I then added my barcode, with the date line and price. I put it at the bottom right of my magazine.
I then added my skyline at the top of the page. I made it quite bold colours along with the rest of the front cover to make it stand out. I decided to put a topic about the latest news which was the college local band, which I had used all
through my magazine as the main storyline.
I decided to do my contents page on a double-page spread. I didn’t plan the page to an exact idea, I followed the colouring and all aspects as I did on my front cover. I included an editors note in the bottom right of the page with a picture of the editor. As you find that in a lot of magazines for teens/college
students. I like my idea how I put the pictures of my Duplicity band in a roll of camera film, I felt it added a nice twist to the style of my magazine, and it isn’t
what you see every day. I made the idea that this magazine was actually a college magazine by including all the information students would see in a
magazine. But also didn’t make it too filled with information that it would make the readers lose attention.
