Page 15: College Dialogues 2021 - OCAS

Selection process for non- oversubscribed programs

Varies depending on the program. Some programs have minimum admission averages and some programs require supplemental admission information.

Grade 11 marks: Where the minimum subject requirement is grade 12, grade 11 marks in required subjects may be used in the calculation of academic strength for those applicants currently enrolled in the required subjects. For example, where grade 12 math is a subject requirement and the applicant is currently enrolled in that course but no midterm mark has been submitted, we will use the grade 11 math mark in the calculation of academic strength. In such cases, any offers of admission would be conditional upon the successful completion of the required Grade 12 course and the final grade in that course.

Dual credits/SHSM programs:

Conestoga College, in partnership with School College Work Initiative and eleven area school boards, offers a variety of dual credit courses and OYAP programs. SHSM reach ahead activities and workshops are available. These opportunities offer pathways to postsecondary programs, trades, and apprenticeship, connecting students to their future and beyond. For more information, please contact Rosie Hessian Chair, School of Interdisciplinary Studies at [email protected].

Alternate offers of admission:

Where possible, alternate offers of admission will be made to programs similar in nature to the original program and for which applicants meet admission requirements.

Supplemental admission requirements:

Depends on the program and may include mandatory information meetings, portfolios, interviews, resumes and/or questionnaires. Details about these requirements can be found online on the program page.

Differentials: For all certificate, diploma and advanced diploma programs, secondary school marks for

required courses will be awarded a 10-mark bonus as follows:

Any U Level, any U/C or M level, any courses at the advanced level from the old curriculum – Advanced Level OAC. Note: differentials will NOT be applied to academic strength calculations for any degree or graduate certificate programs.

Workplace pathways: Conestoga offers programs that require an OSSD or equivalent with no specific course requirements. These include: Business Fundamentals, Food Service Worker, Bartending, Bookkeeping, Construction Techniques (multi trade), Brick & Stone Fundamentals and Community Integration through Co-operative Education.

Upgrading pathways: Academic Upgrading and Preparatory Programs provide individuals, with and without their high school diploma (or equivalency), the opportunity to complete the required admission/prerequisite courses for entry into certificate and diploma programs. Free programming is available based on eligibility. [email protected]

Post-graduate opportunities:

Agreements between Conestoga College and other post-secondary institutions are designed to allow our students the opportunity to study elsewhere, usually in the pursuit of a degree or other academic credential. conestogac.on.ca/credit-transfer/agreement

Deferral policy: Not applicable.

Student with disabilities: Conestoga provides support for students with permanent and temporary disabilities. Staff work with students to understand the impact of their disability in the college environment and develop a success plan that considers the student’s goals and the academic and testing accommodations available to support the student’s full participation in Conestoga life. studentsuccess.conestogac.on.ca/myLearning/AcademicAndTestingAccommodations

Graduates will be positioned to succeed in a wide range of food-related occupations including roles in culinary, education, tourism, recreation, health, food security, sustainability, economic development, agriculture, public policy and research. Toronto provides a unique setting for this program because of its wealth of multicultural and Indigenous food traditions. Students will participate in a paid co-op placement focused on the application of culinary and food animation skills.

Food Tourism Entrepreneurship post-graduate certificate will prepare graduates to harness local economies, cultures of food and drink production and consumption and then channel them into successful and resilient tourism “experience” enterprises. The program develops the partnerships and tools to generate, capture, communicate and market unique experiences that speak to consumer values of sustainability and traceability. Graduates of the program will then continue to provide consumers with "taste of place" experiences that build on new business models and opportunities. It will bring creative entrepreneurship skills to the small and medium businesses that make up the food tourism sector.

Bachelor of Business Administration (Business Analytics) will allow students to learn how to transform complex data into easy-to-understand, actionable information and leverage it for sound decision making. This interdisciplinary program blends courses in business, leadership, liberal sciences, dashboarding technologies and analytical techniques. By working with various types of data, students will improve their key critical thinking approaches, strategic and insightful leadership and management skills. This program has hybrid delivery: first 2 years delivered online, last 2 years in a blended format

However, grade 11 final grades are considered where the required grade 12 course is in progress. For detailed Pre-Admission Requirements and important dates visit: NiagaraCollege.ca/PAR. Detailed information and examples on admission decisions is available at www.niagaracollege.ca/admissions (click on Admission Decisions)

Offers of admission granted in this circumstance will be conditional upon successful completion of the required grade 12 English.
