Coke&5 Mentos Experiment

Question/problem

I wonder how coke will react with Mentos.

How high will coke explode?

Prediction

I think that the Mentos will dissolve.

I think coke will explode like 50cm high.

Materials

2 liters of coke

5 pieces of Mentos

Safety goggles

Meter stick

Paper clip

Procedure

1. Talk about how will we do it.

2. Collect all the materials.

3. Find safe place outside.

4. Place the soda in the trash bin.

5. Put on safety goggles

6. Attach the meter stick to the trash bin.

7. Unscrew the bottle.

8. Put the Mentos on the paper clip.

9. Put the Mentos in the bottle.

Experiment (data collection and result)

1.The stream of coke went up really quickly and it was higher than 1 meter.

2. The stream disappeared quickly.

3. Half a liter of coke remained in the bottle.

4. Mentos didn’t dissolve.

Conclusion

We found out that if you put Mentos in coke it will explode. We found out that coke explodes higher when you put more Mentos in it.

Today, in our 4th grade ESL class we did a soda and 5 Mentos experiment. First, we talked about how we are going to do it and where will we do it. Second, we got all the materials that we needed. Third, we went out to a safe place outside. Then, we put the coke in to the trash bin and we attached a meter stick to a trash bin. Next, we put Mentos on a paper clip. Then, we put Mentos in the coke. And finally, we found out that the coke explodes high up in the air when you put more Mentos in it.
