FILM POSTERS

COLOUR SCHEME

The colours used for the poster have to relate to the type of genre the film represents. This will help the audience identify much easier the content of the film without seeing the trailer or researching. There is a clear distinction between the two productions as “The Devils Rejects” focused on the dark reds with black which connotes with pain and anger. While “Mean Girls” focused around the shade pink; this will show that the plot is surrounded around teenage girls and their lifestyles.

MAIN IMAGE

Depending on the genre, in film posters the protagonists are shown in the image to create a sense of familiarity for the audience when the film is advertised. By looking at the “Titanic” poster it gives all the key elements of the film; the main protagonists and the ship. The models will pose according to the role they have in the film and the according costumes. For genres like horror, the poster would be created with a sense of mystery in mind in order to keep the audience in suspense from the beginning. All the props and effects used for a horror poster would have some significance in the film but they are unknown to the viewer until they watch it.

TITLE

The title of the film is always in the centre of the audience’s vision. If the sizing of the lettering is not big enough the coloures used for it would contrast the rest of the poster in order to show importance. For other productions, there would be nothing apart from the title, this could be because; the film had enough advertisement on other platforms that the audiences would already know what the poster is related to just by looking at the font of the title and the colours used in the background.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Most film posters have a list of the actors involved

in the production, this could help persuade

potential viewers to go and see the film if their

favourite actors are playing. If there is a

large list of well recognised artists, this

could also show that the quality of the film is

good.

At the bottom of the poster a list of people is

made to show those involved behind the

scenes. Also the distribution company,

this could act as a persuasive method too

as some people may prefer certain companies

for movies.
