What is a Movie Poster?

A movie poster, is one key advertising method used in the film industry. It is vital for the movie poster to include enough information about the film but finding the balance in not having too much information that it then becomes boring to look at.

Within movie posters audience members will mainly see: An image of the main actor/actress Title of film Billing block Tagline Reviews Directors/ Actors names

It is important for movie posters to reflect the genre of film, this can be seen done through the font, colour scheme, images used, layout of poster.

Analysising a Movie Poster

At the top of the poster, the Viewer can also see atagline . By repeating the Word ‘Identity’ in each shortSentence adds an eerie feel Towards the film and creates the impression that the viewersIdentity is in danger.

Large main image of a hand printin the middle of the poster. Inside This image audience members can see a face like figure in the Palm and human figures as fingers and thumb. Reflecting a creepy and spooky feel towards the poster. At the bottom right of the hand Print the colour fades to red. This colour reflects danger and Death and may leave audience Members question whether the People inside this film are ok.

Placed above the title of the film,Audience members can alsoSee the leading actors within the Film. By promoting their nameson the poster can be seen as aUSP as the viewer may want to See the film because this actor/Actress is in it.

Billing block is placed at the Bottom of the poster. This Includes names of all who Contributed to the film . At the bottomOf the billing block the viewer can Also see the caption ‘’Coming Soon’In large clear font this helps break up the billing block making it easier for Viewer to read it.

The title of the film is placed under The sixth number. By having this fontIn a white colour helps it stand out Behind a black background. Also withThe style of font helps create an eerieMystery feel towards the film.

The number six, is larger compared To the other numbers which makes The viewer question why is this? The Audience members can also see a Child like figure walk front of the figureThis leads viewers questing who is This person? What is so significant About the number six.? These Questions reflect the mystery/thrillerGenre.

The Code and conventions used

From researching many film posters from the mystery/thriller genre I found that many posters include a billing block, the colours used in these posters where dull and not bright colours such as pink or baby blue. A large majority of these posters also included the title of the film, tagline and an image of the main character.
