Interactive Error CheckerOnce modeling is complete, the comprehensive error checker auto-matically reviews the input to ensurethat the model makes sense from a“piping” perspective. Warnings anderrors are synchronized with the element input screen so that mistakescan be immediately addressed andthe workflow maintained.

Extensive Spring Hanger OptionsOnce you specify a hanger as arestraint, CAESAR II permits hangerselections based on multiple thermalcases, cold or hot load design, andstandard or extended load ranges. The ideal hanger can be selectedfrom numerous built-in manufacturercatalog databases based on a variety of proposed operating andinstallation positions.

Wind Load CalculationsAutomatically apply and analyze multiple wind load sets according toindustry specifications. In keepingwith CAESAR II’s flexibility, you canalso specify your own pressure orvelocity profiles.

Nozzle Flexibilities and StressesPerform nozzle load analysis based onbuilt-in nozzle flexibility estimationmethods from WRC, API and PD 5500.

Equipment Load ChecksPerform load evaluations for steamturbines, centrifugal pumps, centrifugalcompressors, closed feedwaterheaters and air cooled exchangers.

Flange Leakage and Stress ChecksEvaluate flange loads using simpleleakage checks and ASME Section VIIIDivision 1 specifications.

System ModelingCAESAR II’s ease of modeling pipingand additional supporting steel systems revolutionizes the way pipestress engineers approach flexibilityanalysis. The architecture, speed andresponsiveness of its innovative mod-eling tools greatly reduce modelingtime of typical jobs, from hours to just minutes.

Context Sensitive Input ScreensThe program’s intuitive modelingdialogs and menus place the mostfrequently used features up frontwhile the less frequently used capa-bilities are just a click away. Plus,CAESAR II allows you to build yourinput screen your own way—usingonly the fields that you want to see. This ensures that you are not distract-ed by complex screens or confusingand redundant options. You see onlywhat you want to see, when you need to see it.

Interactive GraphicsCAESAR II’s interactive graphics allowthe editing of one or more elementsby selecting them directly from themodel. Additionally, the model viewallows you to walk around your fully rendered model. System representa-tions can be adjusted to single-line,volume or wire-frame mode for better visualization.

Extensive Restraint TypesCAESAR II comes with a wide selectionof restraint types that can be usedindividually or in combination to provide the most complete set ofboundary conditions of any analysistool on the market:

• Anchors• Spring Hangers • Imposed displacements• Translational restraints• Rotational restraints• Snubbers• Guides and limit stops

Restraints may be modeled with a full range of linear and non-linearcharacteristics such as user-definedstiffness, connecting nodes (for nodalinterdependence), friction, gaps,single-directionality, bi-linear stiffness, large rotation angle constraints, etc.

Structural Steel ModelingCAESAR II includes a full library ofinternational structural steel shapesto make modeling structures easy.Steel structures can also be importedfrom COADE’s CADWorx Steel to takeadvantage of the most current boundary conditions.

Interactive Global EditingYou can globally view, edit andmanipulate elements and their datawithin an element spreadsheet, ele-ment listing, or graphic environment,or using all three at once. The editingfunctions include group block-editfeatures such as element Rotate,Duplicate, Mirror, Delete and NodeRenumbering.

FRP (Fiberglass) Pipe ModelingChoose from piping codes specificallyfor fiberglass reinforced plastic pipeplus vendors’ data for modeling andanalysis.

Automatic Expansion Joint ModelingCreate input for expansion jointassemblies with parameters extractedfrom vendor-supplied catalog databases.

Buried Pipe ModelingCAESAR II can automatically mesh apiping system and create restraintswhich simulate soil resistance onburied pipe based upon user-enteredsoil conditions.

Static AnalysisCAESAR II begins the static analysisby recommending load cases necessary to comply with piping codestress requirements. Built-in defaultload cases are suggested for mostanalyses but users may also createload cases from combinations ofbasic load types or of other loadcases as required. Existing load cases can be modified or deleted as necessary.

The combining of piping and structur-al models also makes it possible toobserve the effect of the non-linearpipe-structure interaction both graphically and numerically.

Comprehensive Load Case OptionsLoad cases may consist of any basicloadings present in the model (pres-sure, weight, thermal, displacements, wind, uniform loads, seismic, waveand current, cold spring, and hangerloads) or they may be combinations of other load cases. Numerous loadcase options are also available tocontrol the analysis, such as stresstype (hydrotest, operating, sustained, expansion, occasional, fatigue),combination method, modulus ofelasticity specification, friction factor, spring hanger behavior, etc.

Integrated Input EnvironmentBuild your system using the spreadsheet, list or graphical environment for easy intuitive modeling.

Steel Analysis ModelingA full range of steel shapes are included to make the development of a complete analysis model a breeze.

Page 4: COADE CAESAR II - IOCS · PDF fileconsidered the industry’s de facto standard. CAESAR II is a complete solution that allows ... shapes and animated motions.Color coding can be used

Graphic Review of Analytical ResultsThe output graphics display can beused to query the results, either bysuperimposing selected results on themodel, viewing all associated elementresults in a spreadsheet form on thegraphics screen, or plotting displacedshapes and animated motions. Colorcoding can be used to highlight highlystressed areas of the model.

Automatic Piping Stress IsometricsOnce a piping model is created for analysis in CAESAR II, you can produce automatic piping isometricdrawings from within the programusing Alias’ ISOGEN. In addition to thebasic geometry and materials data, the drawing can be automaticallyannotated with additional piping information such as piping materialsand sizes, operating conditions andrestraint functions. Analysis results, such as pipe stresses, restraint loadsand thermal placements, can also beincluded in the drawing. Producingautomatic isometric drawings fromwithin CAESAR II saves time for bothengineers and designers.

ODBC Database ExportExport piping model information andanalysis results to any ODBC data-base for data review and manipulationoutside CAESAR II. This is very usefulin comparing results between severalanalyses or creating unique reportsand plots.

Comprehensive Dynamic CapabilitiesCAESAR II analyzes many different types of dynamic effects.

Fatigue and Cumulative Usage Analysis Calculate the remaining life based onmaterial fatigue curve data and anassigned number of cycles. A cumula-tive usage report will provide a totalusage factor for all fatigue casesselected at one time.

Wave and Current Load AnalysisAnalyze piping elements that experi-ence loading due to the effects ofocean waves and currents. Variouswave theories and current profiles are incorporated.

Dynamic AnalysisCAESAR II guides you through thespecification and the acquisition ofdata needed for dynamic analysis.Dynamic analysis begins with thespecifications of the dynamic inputdata such as lumped masses, imposed vibration, snubbers andspectrum definitions. You can usebuilt-in shock spectra or define yourown. Accuracy can be balanced with efficiency through the choice ofeither the consistent mass or lumpedmass analytic model.

Mode Shape and Natural FrequencyCalculationsCAESAR II calculates the naturalmodes of vibration. In many cases, operating problems can be examinedor avoided by reviewing the system’snatural modes of vibration, thus saving valuable time and reducingpiping system failures.

Harmonic Displacement and Force AnalysisEvaluate the vibration response of a damped system to a range of

harmonic forces or displacementssimulating mechanical and acousticline vibrations.

Shock Spectrum Analysis andIndependent Support MotionChoose independent support motionand from a library of NRC and UBCearthquake spectra (including optionalanchor movements), or have a ‘wizard’ help build your spectrum inaccordance with common buildingcodes. The program uses standardresponse spectrum methods, andyou may choose from a variety ofmodal and spatial summation options.

Force Spectrum AnalysisAnalyze general impact loads suchas water and steam hammer, slugflow and relief valve discharge. Theprogram includes a routine to converttime history loads into the appropriatefrequency response data.

Modal Time History AnalysisConduct an accurate and completeevaluation of the system responsethrough time when the timing ofdynamic loads is well defined.

Animation of Dynamic ResponseVerify system response using theAnimation Module, one of CAESAR II’smost valuable tools in diagnosingdynamic problems. The program animates the results from time historyand harmonic analysis as well asmode shapes.

Missing Mass/Force CorrectionsImprove dynamic solution accuracyby accounting for system high fre-quency modal response.

Static/Dynamic Load CombinationsCombine any number of dynamic and

static loads to accurately address theoccasional load requirements of thepiping codes.

Relief Valve Load Synthesis Calculate dynamic thrust loads andtransient pressures from relief valvesin open discharge systems.

Data InterfacesImport results automatically fromhydraulic analysis packages such asStoner’s LIQT and Sunrise Systems’PIPENET as response spectrum datafor dynamic analysis in CAESAR II.

OutputCAESAR II output reports include inputecho; hanger selection and individualload case listings of restraint loads, displacements, local forces andmoments; and code-defined stressescompared with their allowable limits. You can review all or part of this information on the screen before the reports are printed or sent toMicrosoft Word. This output reviewspeeds the design cycle by displayingresults that are useful in diagnosingpiping trouble areas.

Customizable ReportsIf the standard set of CAESAR II outputreports is inadequate, they may besupplemented with user-customizedreports built upon easily constructedtemplates. All output data may beplaced in the reports along with user-specified formatting and customheaders. Using the output report filters lets you save paper by eliminating non-critical results fromthe reports.Load Case Selections Made Easy

CAESAR II recommends analysis load cases but still provides powerfuloptions for complete load case customization.
