Thanks to Rich & Sandy McDonald for finding my Nova! They knew the people who had the car. They had bought a new Kia, and you can only put 1 car in a 2 car garage, right? So I was the lucky one who ended up with the 1963 Nova SS. Granted it was a bit on the rough side, but I didn’t care. It ran and I love the car! It had the original 194 engine in it and he had given me all the paperwork on the car of every-thing they had done to it. I did get new interior for it, seat cov-ers, buns, door panels & door & window handles for it. Rich & Sandy & Ron & Christina played Santa and got me bumpers for it for Christmas. And Terry replaced the rubber on the back window since it was leaking pretty bad, he also painted my Nova SS emblems he make the car look very pretty! Since the wheel covers were for a ’66, Rick has a set

of “63 covers so I got them from him. Since driving the car up a hill was like peddling the Flintstone mobile, Kelly & Stucky put a 250 in my Nova. YEA! ! I have a big block! What power, and I don’t have to worry if a semi is going to drive over me trying to pass me up on a hill. Not sure if I can remember the history on the motor, but I think it came from David Bills, Wayne Gill, Shawnna Horton to me? So it’s a club motor! Sorry if I’ve left any-one out who once had that motor in their car. Whenever I have a problem with the car, I know that I have lots of friends in the club that help me with it. Sometimes I can help, sometimes I can be in the way and sometimes, it’s just best if I don’t touch it. Not sure I can ever thank every-

one enough for everything they have done for me. I have managed to take the car to Nebraska, New Mexico, and all points in Colorado. And I love to take it to shows, but not to win any-thing, I just want to show it off and talk to people and have a great time, which I usually do. Around the metro area, I’m known as Kathy with the “unrestored” Nova! Kinda like that title actually. In the past couple of years, I’ve had more peo-ple tell me how much they like the car just the way it is. And don’t forget that I always hear that “my dad, grandfather, or uncle had a Nova just like yours”, and I get to hear their story. That is so much fun for me. I try to do something to the car every year, but for the past couple of years, that just hasn’t been possible, maybe next year? Guess that’s my story and just hope to see you at the next show or cruise. Till next time Kathy

Rocky Mountain Nova Club Page 3 Volume 27th Issue 10

Hi everyone, just got back from Hot Rod Drag Week 9/8/12---9/15/12. The racing started in Tulsa, OK. There were many classes registered. From unlimited to street classes were present (limited to 200 cars to race). Day 1 was great, Larry Larson (66 Nova) blasted a 6.948 at 208 mph. All cars must be street legal and drive to each track totaling 1400 miles with no support, cannot be trailer and must follow prescribed route with check points- rain or shine. After racing in Tulsa, we all drove to Texas Motor Plex south of Dallas, TX. In the morning, racing began with everyone trying to get there fastest ET. There were many nitrous cars, twin turbo cars , blower cars and naturally aspirated street machines There were a few crashes and blown motors. One third of the 200 cars did not finish the week. From Texas, we all drove to Gilliam , Louisiana. On the way, Don McMichael and I stopped to see my friend Ken Herring (Pass Time) Texas Chassis Works in Tyler, TX. He's building some cool cars for customers. At Gilliam, there were more fast times, Jeff Lutz (57 Chevy) did a 7.009 at 212mph and pulled the front wheels off the ground at 1000 feet going 200mph and did not lift. WOW!!! Rainy day drives caused problems with electronics for many. Next we headed for Memphis, TN. Most of the elevation was almost at sea level. After Memphis, eastbound across Arkansas to finish the last racing in Tulsa again, 1400 miles... In the end, Larry Larson won unlimited class with consistent 6.940's at 208 mph. His 66 Nova had a twin turbo 565 cubic inch BBC, 5 speed lenco, 9 inch 3.90 gear and 32x18 inch ET streets. My 66 Nova we drove 3000 miles , averaged 16.30 miles per gallon from 50mph to 100mph + and Larry and I were chased down by Texas Highway Patrol once and got out of a ticket. We had to jet the 850 double pumper fatter along the highway only once in Kan-sas on my 385 cubic inch. I ran 11.2 compression, t350, 3.00 gears in my Mark Williams 9 inch and not a speck of trouble, just terror on the highway. It's like a Power Tour with the fastest street cars next to you. It will be on Hotrod TV - Speed channel soon. Wayne

Car Show Committee Meeting Sept. 30, 2012

This meeting was at Great Scott Eatery. At this meeting we picked a T-Shirt Vendor for 2013. Stuck took pictures of the winners for 2012. Ken’s Nova is the T-shirt Nova for 2013. It’s not to early to start on Major sponsors. We need the Major sponsors to survive. Only 3 people showed up for this meeting. We still accomplished what had to get done. We picked a T-Shirt vendor. The shirts this year will be a Digitals Print shirt. The bottom cost is about the same, but we can add to the order as close as 48hrs before the show. We hope this will help on the shirts that are left over. All of the sponsors will be in color. I will check to see if grey shirts are the same price as white. The T-Shirt Comp. will give us Staff shirts for a spot on the back. The art work can be changed with out any problems. Club members who want event T-Shirts will be charged a small amount to help off set the cost of T-Shirts. This amount will be decided on at a later meeting. Some other cuts were talked about to help offset the cost of the show. We will discuss these at a later meeting also. This year Esther and JT will be in charge of Reg. The Door Prize tent was turned over to Dale & Linda. They will collect the door prizes from all the members and give them away at the show. It is eve-ryone's responsibility to get out and get some door prizes. When it comes time to sign up the workers, these people will decide how many people they need to help them.

The Nova Round Up took place

on Sunday the 23rd of Sept.

We arrived at 6:15 to get set up

and start letting in the Club No-

vas then the Round Up Novas.

We had to wait for the mainte-

nance man to let us in . He was

late but at least he did show up.

We had 13 club cars and 8 other

Novas. Not the turn out I had

hoped for. But we did gain some

new members and let others

know we are still active.

We gave away 3 plaques. One

was club pick, one was work in

progress and one for long dis-

tance.

The Nova Round Up will take place

again in 2013.

The plaques for 2013 will have the

same Nova that will be the Nova for

The Great Machine Car Show. For 2013

this Nova is Ken Frazier

Al Gutierrez with a 63’ SS

out of Idaho Springs

Gabriel Moreno with a 63’ SS

from Commerce City

Trudy Fralick with a 63’ Chevy II

people who were not on the old list. I

have asked for a current list and hope

to get one this month. If I don’t have the

information I can’t put it in the news

letter.

From time to time, well almost all the

time, I miss spell a bunch of words.

Spell check has no idea what I’m trying

to spell. Betty Ann spell checks for me

and Dan spell checks also, and check

If people who attend shows

could just take a little time and

give me a little article about the

show they attend and the people

that attended it, the news letter

would be much more enjoyable

to read, and people might decide

to go to that show next year. I

have been working off of an old

list for birthdays and Anniversa-

ries so I have missed some new

for other mistakes. Sometimes a

misspelled word slips by ( sorry

about that) but we try and do

everything we can to catch them.

and answer questions. We had the same

Novas for the last few years, it would be

nice to see some new Novas. We have

time to think about putting your Nova in

this Show. The Club will pay for your entry

fee. If you want Judged you will have to

pay the extra cost

yourself.

This show is Thanksgiving week

end. In the past years Dan Pace

has gotten us a good spot at this

show. It would be nice to have 4

Novas at this show. If possible a

‘62-63’-’64-65’ a ‘66 or ’67 and a

late model. We always wait till

Nov. to decide on the Novas for

the show. It’s a rough weekend.

Friday & Sat 9:00am to 9:00 Pm.

And Sunday 9:00am to 6:00 Pm

then tear down. We will need

people to man the Nova Spot

and pass out Nova information

attending were, Dale and Linda Brazee, Jim and Debbie Van Coevern, JT and Esther, Dave Bills and Ken Frazier. Dale brought a huge canopy that protected us all from the sun. Thanks Dale and Linda for the canopy and the goodies. The weather was perfect, it started out cool, but by 10 am it was great. Not too hot with a slight breeze. The music was typical car show of 60's and 70's and an occasional dip back into the 50's. The event was very well organized as in prior years and there was lots to do with the whole Clement Park filled with activities; Music, hot air balloons, car show, pancake breakfast, arts & crafts, ex-hibits, kids' activities and a food court. There was a large number of Mus-tangs of all years (big surprise) with many GM, Ford and Mopar beauties

along with unique cars that were worth seeing. There were at least 600 cars, trucks and motorcycles there for everyone to inspect and en-joy. The judging ended and the awards ceremony began about 2pm. The RMNC took a sweep of the Nova class with 3 of us getting trophies. Ken Frazier, JT and Dave Bills. Nice aluminum colored drag race light tree style with an "Award of Excellence" plaque on it. We were all very happy. Leaving was easy and the traffic was light for the cruise home. We all look forward to next year.

We met at the Park and Ride by Hampton and Wadsworth about 7am to find Dale unable to start his Nova. We saw little fuel in the filter and we took off the air cleaner and there was no accelerator pump working either. So it was a bad fuel pump. Dale got a ride and came back with a new pump and changed it out in record time. He made the show on time but wasn't able to park with us. He was only about 50 yards away. The entry route was the same as last year but some-how much more efficient. I only had to stop once, follow-ing the guides all over the park. We were set up in Sec-tion AA. The club members
