A way to clone a database using EGC oracle option.

Transcript of Clone Db Using Egc method

Using the DEPLOYMENTS tab on enterprise grid 11g server

Clone Database: Source Type

Specify the type of source database backup that will be used for the cloning operation.

Online BackupDatabase

Database Login

Clone Database: Source Type

Specify the type of source database backup that will be used for the cloning operation.

Online Backup Use Recovery Manager (RMAN) to copy database files (Staging areas not required. RMAN will copy files directly to destination locations)

Copy database files via staging areas

(Requires staging areas on both source and destination hosts.)

Existing Backup

Use the option Existing Backup:

Clone Database: Source Host Credentials

Source Host Credentials

Host credentials of the source database will be used to access archive logs, password file etc. of the source database

Clone Database: Backup Details

Source Databaseracdb_racdb1

Source Hostsrocrcn1.secp.gov.pk

The source database is registered with recovery catalog. Backup details will be fetched from recovery catalog.

Point In Time

The clone database can be setup to reflect the source database as of a specific point-in-time time or SCN (System Change Number). Specify a time or SCN below, which will help identify backups necessary to create the clone database. If the existing backup does not have all necessary archive logs, Enterprise Manager will transfer them from the source host to destination host as part of the clone operation.

Clone Database: Select Destination

Source Databaseracdb_racdb1

Source Hostsrocrcn1.secp.gov.pk

Destination Oracle Home

Specify the host and Oracle Home where the cloned database will be created. The host should be a discovered Enterprise Manager target and match the operating system of the source database. The Oracle Home should exist on the specified host and match the version of the source database.HOST: srclone.secp.gov.pkOracle Home: /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1Oracle Base: /u01/app/oracleDestination Host Credentials

Enter the host credentials for the install owner of the Oracle Home where clone database is to be created. Username: oracle

Password: *******

Destination Database

Global Database Name: clonedb.secp.gov.pkInstance Name: cloned

Database Unique Name: cloned

(Used to set the cloned database DB_UNIQUE_NAME parameter, which must be unique within the enterprise. If not specified, will be defaulted to DB_NAME)

Storage Type: ASM

Parallelism

Degree of Parallelism: 8

(

The number of parallel channels used by Recovery Manager (RMAN) to copy the database files. Increased parallelism may speed the process if sufficient system resources are available.

)

Either specify a different instance name or shutdown the running instance and put it on mount state:Like I change the instance name to testdb

Oracle Restart Configuration

The destination host has Oracle Restart configured. Oracle Restart automatically starts the database when required.

Specify suitable memory management method for the clone database or choose to retain memory management parameters same as the source database.

Automatic Shared Memory Management

INCLUDEPICTURE "https://srgrid11g:7799/em/cabo/images/t.gif" \* MERGEFORMATINET

When Automatic Shared Memory Management is enabled, the database will automatically set the optimal distribution of memory across the SGA (System Global Area) components. The distribution of memory will change from time to time to accomodate changes in the workload. Also specify the aggregate Program Global Area (PGA) size. Total SGA Size (MB) 18432

Aggregate PGA Target (MB) 2432Listener Configuration

1. Use Default Grid Infrastructure Listener

(The destination host contains a Grid Infrastructure installation. Choose this option to use the default listener running from the Grid Infrastructure home)

2. Use Destination Database Home Listener

Specify the name and port of the listener to be configured for the database. If listener specified does not exist at the destination oracle home, it will be created.

Listener Configuration File Location/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin

Listener Name LISTENER

(Clicking on the icon will show a list of existing listeners in the destination Oracle Home.)

Source Database Port 1521

Modified Settings

Enterprise Manager has identified a few settings on the source database that may not be appropriate for the clone database. These settings will be modified or excluded on the clone Database. If these settings are necessary or need to be configured differently, it may be done after the clone database is created.

Post Cloning Script

Run Post Cloning Scripts The cloned database can be customized by executing the specified SQL script. (The script will be run as SYSDBA.)

Run SQL script from file

SQL Script File Name _________

Run SQL script specified in the text area

SQL Script : select name from v$datafile;

Specified listerner port already listening , so we need to shut down listerner or set a news listener port.

Database Files Location

Specify the location where datafiles, tempfiles, redo log files, and control files will be created. If you are going to convert the cloned database to RAC at a later point, it is recommended that you specify storage location shared across all hosts in the cluster. Total Disk Space Required (MB)1050773

Location DATA

Recovery Files Location

Flash Recovery Area

The source database is configured with a flash recovery area. Specify the location where recovery-related files (archived redo log files, RMAN backups, etc.) will be created. Location DATA

Recovery Area Size (MB)982016

Arhived Log Destinations

Following local archived log destinations will be configured for the database. Enterprise Manager will exclude any remote archived log destinations specified for the source database. Click "Add Destination" to add additional archived log destinations if necessary. If the flash recovery area is configured, then it will be added as an archived log destination. ADD:

Archived Log Destination: /recoveryarea

Diagnostic and Audit Files Location

Specify the location where audit and diagnostic files will be located.

Location: /u01/app/oracleTemporary Staging Location

Specify temporary staging locations on source and destination hosts. Enterprise Manager will require 152 MB on source host. Also 25 MB is required on destination host to save transferred archive logs.
