Some sunlight hits the earth and is reflected.

Some becomes heatCO2 and other gasses in

the atmosphere trap heat. This makes the

earth warmer.

What Mongolians can (and do) do• Limit the number of processed foods and

goods you buy• Carpool• Reuse plastic bottles or other things instead of

throwing them away• Find an alternative to burning garbage• Try to start recycling programs• Drive slower

Vocabulary• Climate: A word for weather, rainfall, hot/coldness and seasons.• Climate Change: When any of those things changes in a certain place for a

long period of time• Global Warming: A type of climate change where the earth gets warmer• Ice age: A type of climate change where the earth gets colder• Polar ice caps: Very large chunks of ice at the North and South poles of the

earth.• Smog: synonyms include: smoke, fumes, air pollution• The Greenhouse Effect: The process of gasses holding warmth around the

earth and making the earth warmer. • Industrial Revolution: The period in history when people started using

machines and factories to make things.• Extreme weather vocabulary: Flood: too much water. Drought: not enough

rain or water. Polar Vortex: very cold for several weeks. Heat Wave: very hot for several weeks. Hurricane: the same as a cyclone, it is a big storm with lots of wind and water. It only happens on America’s East coast and the Caribbean.
