Baby Arthur was son of a King. Merlin, a wise magician wanted to protect Arthur against bad people. Baby Arthur grew up in a secret place. No one knew his true identity.

Arthur’s father died, so who was going to be next king? There were conflicts and arguments, so Merlin used his magic to set a sword in a stone. On the sword you could read: "The person who pulls out this sword of this stone is the right king of all England." Many people tried to take the sword out of the stone, but none could. Arthur, quite by chance, took the sword for another contender and he became king. Arthur was a brave king. He fought against the enemy, the Saxons. After many great battles he won at Mount Badon and the Saxons left England forever.

Arthur lived in Camelot with Queen Guinevere. Here he built a strong castle. His knights met at a Round Table. They helped people and fought against strange beasts. They also looked for the ‘Holy Grail', a cup that cures all illnesses.

The historic Arthur was a victorious fifth-century warrior. He led Britons into battle against Anglo-Saxon invaders.

A writer called Nennius wrote a history of Britain, and Arthur appears as a heroic British general who fought 12 battles. Then, Geophrey of Monmouth said he had found a Celtic manuscript with Arthur’s whole life. Artorious Castus, a Roman military commander, could have been Arthur.

Later, a French writer, Chrétien, introduced the holy grail in one of his poems. The image of the grail, bright, full of light and from a different world, became a mystical symbol of all human quests. But all these facts were impossible to comfirm.
