STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES Family conference nights are
scheduled for Thursday, Febru-ary 4th and Tuesday, February 9th. Please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible if the time that was scheduled for you does not work for you. Thanks in advance for helping us meet our goal of 100%!
CONGRATULATIONS, BELLA!Bella Dougherty, a fifth grader
in Mrs. Lafrenz’s class, was the first place winner for the Flag Essay Contest for Cedar Rapids that is supported by the American Legion of Iowa. All Cleveland fifth grade students had the opportunity to participate if they chose to do so. The purpose was to develop a deeper knowledge and ap-preciation for the United States Flag as well as the knowledge of flag etiquette and respect for the flag. Bella’s essay will now be forwarded to the state level.

Making Up Instructional Time Lost to Weather
The District is required to make up all instructional time lost when classes are delayed or cancelled because of weather. Options include using a make-up date as identi ed on the District calendar, adding time to the beginning and end of a school day starting after spring break, or tapping into hours in excess of the state minimum requirement of 1,080.
Make up decisions for weather events are decided on a case-by-case basis. Families will always be made aware as early as possible following a weather event through the School Messenger call system and the District website.
IOWA ASSESSMENT TESTING INFORMATION & TEST-TAKING
STRATEGIESPlease note that the week of February 29, 2016
third through fifth graders will be taking the Iowa Assessment tests. These tests are one measure that tells us how our students are performing against state standards. We ask that you please refrain from scheduling appointments during this week as much as possible so that your child will be in attendance during those important testing times.

for elementary age students)Eat a healthy breakfast (protein)Wear comfortable clothes Use deep breathing

FRIENDSHIP CELEBRATIONSThe students at Cleveland School will
be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 12th. Celebrations are scheduled from 2:45-3:30 p.m. Students are invited to participate in a homeroom Valentine’s exchange. It is important that students bring a Valentine to school for each of their classmates if they choose to exchange.
