Within the next few weeks we will commence subject counselling and parent meetings about senior school pathways. We need to have accurate student numbers so we can also start to prepare a budget for staffing resources. If you are contemplating sending your children away for senior school education please speak to us and give us the opportunity to plan a program that will meet your child’s educational needs. Cleve Area School has a history of student successes in academic, traineeship and further education. We want to continue this positive tradition and ensure that we have a viable senior school operating in our community. If you have any concerns, ideas or suggestions please provide us with the feedback we need to continue the improvement journey we have embarked upon. Please remember less students in the school equates to less staff and thus less subject offerings. We trust that you will keep up the support for your local school. Cleve Area School’s 70th Birthday Fair The 70 th Birthday celebrations are planned for Friday 18 th October in Term 4, with an open day on Saturday 19 th . We hope to have all classes involved in stalls and or other activities. We plan to have an old style assembly and a music concert outdoors on the lawn west of the new classrooms. If you have any ideas or would like to be involved in any activities please contact Deb Taheny or myself at the school. Changes to the School Canteen commencing soon The Canteen Sub-Committee, chaired by Emma Nield, has worked hard at developing our Healthy Eating Policy and restructuring the canteen service. Currently the Cleve Roadhouse is taking lunch orders via classroom baskets. The front office staff and Miss Williamson’s class members have been helping with this process. We find that this is taking quite a considerable amount of time. At last night’s School Governing Council meeting we discussed a variety of options and have decided to set up a trial. As of week 5, students can still order lunches Mondays to Fridays in addition, the canteen will open on Fridays at lunchtime with limited goods to purchase. Menus are being finalized and printed this week and will be sent to you by the students. Students can order in exactly the same way. The classroom lunch baskets will be delivered to and from the canteen, and not the front office. Baskets will then be collected from the canteen by the students, supervised by an adult. On a different but related topic, some students are requesting our front office staff to heat food for them. The Work, Health and Safety regulations do not allow us to do this for obvious reasons. Please ensure that the lunches that you provide for your children do not require us to heat it before consuming. Mobile Phone Policy The SRC and Seonie Robst have been working on the Mobile Phone Policy. We have had a large number of people who have responded to the survey that was sent out last term. We now need to process the data and discuss strategies that we can use for a positive effect. Hello Everyone

2020 Planning

We have started the planning for 2020. Please remember less students in the school equates to less staff and thus less subject offerings. We trust that you will keep up the support for your local school.

Cleve Area School’s 70th Birthday Fair

The 70th Birthday celebrations are planned for Friday 18th October in Term 4, with an open day on Saturday 19th. We hope to have all classes involved in stalls and or other activities. We plan to have an old style assembly and a music concert outdoors on the lawn west of the new classrooms. If you have any ideas or would like to be involved in any activities please contact Deb Taheny or myself at the school.

Changes to the School Canteen commencing soon

The Canteen Sub-Committee, chaired by Emma Nield, has worked hard at developing our Healthy Eating Policy and restructuring the canteen service. Please ensure that the lunches that you provide for your children do not require us to heat it before consuming.

Mobile Phone Policy

The SRC and Seonie Robst have been working on the Mobile Phone Policy. We have had a large number of people who have responded to the survey that was sent out last term. We now need to process the data and discuss strategies that we can use for a positive effect.

Working together

Finally, our team of students and staff at this school continues to CARE, RESPECT, ENTHUSE AND WORK TOGETHER in the classroom, the staffroom, the school yard and in the community. We value and appreciate all forms of feedback so that we can meet the educational needs of our students. If you have any ideas, suggestions or concerns please contact us at the school. Please remember: If you are happy with our service tell others, if you are not happy tell us. Ray Marino, Principal

Junior Primary Sports Day

Friday 20th September The day begins at 9:15am with students rotating through Tabloid events eg. High jump, long throw, soccer kick, long jump, accuracy throw and skipping. After recess the students run the marathon and sprints followed by team games. As the school has a later lunch break now, we are planning to continue right through to conclude sports day at 1pm this year. In the last newsletter, we asked for parent volunteers to assist with running events. Many thanks to the families who have already returned offers of help but of course, we are still needing many offers to ensure everyone only has to do short shifts. Please complete the attached slip to help fill the rosters to enable us to run events on the day.

Buddy Bench - Thank you Bendigo Bank

Last week the R-5 school had the opportunity to officially thank some of the Bendigo Bank staff for their generous donation of a ‘Buddy Bench’ to support our students well-being. The bench has been appreciated by many students and we have been proud of the many students who have noticed students on the bench and approached them to offer assistance. Pictured below are our Junior SRC thanking branch manager, Judy Arbury and committee members; Lorraine Deakin, Beth Deakin and David Reed. .

High School Musical - Kimba

Area School

Last Wednesday, our Primary students travelled to Kimba AS to be an audience for Kimba’s production of High School Musical Jr. It was a great opportunity to view a high quality production by students. Many thanks to Fiona Harkness, Philippa Grainger, Mignon Dunn for

driving the buses.

Camps

This week a group of senior students are participating in a Snow Trip to Mt. Buller. We thank Jack Kenny, Jody Bray and Joanne Turner for travelling with and supervising students for the week. Our Year 5 students leave on Wednesday to Errappa in Iron Knob for a week of challenges and team building activities with Anna Williamson and Natasha Agars. Many thanks to our staff for their tireless efforts planning these experiences. Safe travels and we look forward to hearing about your experiences.

SACE Parent Info Night / Monday 19th August / 4:30pm / Staff Room On Monday, August 19, Cleve Area School will host its annual SACE Family Info afternoon. The event is aimed at Year 9, 10, 11 families and students who will soon be making decisions about subject choices, career pathways, including school-based apprenticeships and university. Learn about SACE (the South Australian Certificate of Education), ATARs (Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks) and SBATs (School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeships). We aim to take the confusion out of the process and put you in contact with the right staff and external experts, to make relevant decisions about career pathways and 2020 subject counselling - which will begin in Week 6. The event will begin in the school staff room at 4.30pm and families are encouraged to attend with their students. A light afternoon tea will be provided. Please RSVP by phoning the school (8628 2104) or emailing [email protected] for catering purposes - or just rock up on the night and take advantage of the help on offer. Cleve students Renae Coulter, Chad Alcock, Lenny McDonough and Lachie Jones plus Mr Trevor McDonough were a part of the Operation Flinders Program which started Tuesday last week and completed yesterday.
