She is a well- known neighborhood advocate and has served as a board member of the Fox Hollow Homeowners Association and is a member of the Mountain Creek Neighborhood Alliance. She also has a long history of volunteer public service on behalf of the community including membership on the boards of the Friends of Mountain Creek Library, Friends of Fox Hollow Park, and the Dallas Municipal Library Board. Having fought so hard on behalf of the area, Meyer says she knows first hand how difficult it can be for residents to get what they need from City Hall. “Citizens understand their own communities best. We need to help them, not put obstacles in their way. With the creation of this new district, we have a chance to make some real progress in Southwest Dallas. But we can only do that with strong, grassroots effective leadership.” Meyer worked as a volunteer for the election of current City Council member Scott Griggs and cites him as a model for the kind of neighborhood-friendly leadership she wants to establish in the new District 3. “Scott understands that healthy neighborhoods make a great city. Too often Dallas City Hall is focused on big flashy projects at the expense of everyday issues that impact residents more. We need a bottom-up approach to Dallas’ problems, not a top –down one.” Meyer is scheduled to arrive at the Dallas City Secretary’s office mid-afternoon to officially file the paperwork to run. The new District 3 includes new neighborhoods that were not formerly in Griggs’ old district. “It’s going to be a challenge to win, but I think our part of Dallas is ready to have its own voice at City Hall.” ###
