Edward Nelson (BM Voice, ‘11; MM Voice, ‘13) took home first prize at the 2020 Glyndebourne Opera Cup, an international competition designed to discover and spotlight the best young opera singers from around the world.

Karen Olivo (BFA Musical Theatre, ‘97) was named “the toast of Broadway” by NBC News’s #Latino20, which recognizes Latinx leaders who are using their voice, talent and passion to empower their communities and promote diversity.

Berti Garcia Helmick (BM Voice, ‘76) became the first Hispanic woman to serve as a magistrate on Hamilton County’s Probate Court in March 2020.

Isabella Byrd (BFA Lighting Design and Technology, ’09), received 2020 Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel award nominations for her work on the world premiere of Heroes of the Fourth Turning.

Diana Maria Riva (BFA Acting, 1993) plays Detective Perez in Netflix’s hit dark comedy

“Dead to Me,” which returns with a second season on May 8, 2020.

Brian Lazarte (BFA E-Media, ‘14) is the executive producer and director of “McMillions,” a six-part HBO documentary on the McDonald’s monopoly fraud case.

Eddy Kwon (BM Jazz Studies, ‘11) is shaping the Queen City’s community arts scene as Artistic Director of Price Hill Will and is “one of the city’s most exciting young creative individuals” (CityBeat).

Brian Raphael Nabors (MM Composition, ‘15; DMA Composition, ‘19) is bridging cultural gaps through music as a 2020 Fulbright Music Fellow in Austrailia with Carl Vine.

Xian Zhang (Orchestral Conducting, att. ’98-‘00) is the Music Director of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and the Principal Guest Conductor of Melbourne Symhpony Orchestra.
