    Class 1A Requirements

The organisers will provide space for a 4m x 3m display area for each Class1A team. Teams are required to supply their own displays and supportingstructure, showing their vehicle and giving details of their design anddevelopment work. Points will be awarded in accordance with the FS Class 1ARules except where indicated below:

    5.1. Design (150 points)

Formula Student will be operating the design event for Class 1A cars in onestage. This will involve the conventional assessment by a team of design

judges, the pre-submitted Design Report and Design Spec Sheet (availablevia the Important Dates & Documents page of the FS website).

Only cars that have passed safety and technical scrutineering and started atleast one of the dynamic events will be eligible to win the design event. Thisrule aims to encourage teams to recognise the importance of developmentand validation work in the design process prior to the event, and attempts toensure that, ideally, all Class 1A cars presented for design judging are incompliance with the rules and subsequently compete in some or all of thedynamic events.

Points in the preliminary stage of the design event will be awarded accordingto the Class 1A Design scoring sheet (also available via the Important Dates& Documents page). The design scores are awarded in a similar way to Class1, however a larger proportion of the points will be awarded for thedevelopment of low carbon emission powertrains.

There are strict formatting and other requirements for the Design Report andSpec Sheets. These, along with the penalties for non-compliance, are definedin the General Requirements section of these Supplementary Regulations.

    5.2. Presentation (75 Points)

This will follow the same basic format as that described for the presentationevent in the FSAE Rules, and involve a 10 minutes formal businesspresentation to senior executives from an imaginary manufacturingcompany, followed by 5 minutes of questions, with a view to obtainingsupport for large scale manufacturing of the teams car. Points will beawarded according to the scoring sheet. (The Scoring Guideline is availablevia the Important Advice page).

    2/2

The Formula Student Presentation judges recognise that the emergingtechnologies of Class 1A represent a difficult commercial challenge whenapplied to relatively small scale manufacture of a racing car. In line with thisit is expected that Class 1A may generate greater diversity of business

presentation scenarios for consideration by the judges.

Class 1A entrants should explain the fuel choice of the car and thecar's environmental credentials. This should include the impact ofmanufacture (embedded energy / CO2), the in-use energy consumption andemissions, as well as the recyclability of the car when it is decommissioned. This will be included in the Class 1A Presentation Event scoring criteria.

    5.3. Sustainability (100 Points)

The Sustainability event replaces the cost event for Class 1A. Full details of

the sustainability event can be found in the Class1A regulations.

    5.4 Team/Car Profile

In addition, teams are required to submit a Team/Car profile and a highresolution .jpg photo or computerised image of their car to be used as themain photo with your Team/Car Profile in the Event Programme. Teams alsoneed to submit 3 CAD Drawings (showing your car from the front, top andside) on a white background prior to the event.

The Team/Car Profile forms the basis of the material the organisers printabout each team in the Formula Student commemorative magazine, is usedby the event commentators, and may be used by the organizers for pre-event PR, press releases etc. It will also be shown to the Presentation judgesprior to the event, and is your opportunity to tell everyone about your team, university and car. As well as talking about the design choices you havemade, and the key selling features of your car, you might also like to talkabout how your team is organised, describe the logistics involved in gettingyour car to the competition, your main objectives, etc. Teams must submittheir Team/Car Profiles in the format of the official Team/Car Profile Sheet(also available via the Important Documents page). Penalties for late/non

submission of Team/Car Profiles will be 10 points per day with a maximum of-50 points.
