Just this passed month, the former
Parsonage/Annex was torn down. This deci-
sion was made by the Trustees and approved
by the Church Council. On Sunday, March
29th, there was a Deconsecration service
held in the yard of our old building. Many
of our members attended this service to walk
the halls one last time and pay tribute to a
piece of CFUMC history. Although we will
miss this place very much, we know that our
church does not stand still, but we continue
moving forward and growing for the glory
of God our Father, Amen!

“The Home,” written by Jan Devereaux
The Grapevine Clarkesville First United Methodist Church
M A Y 2 0 1 5
It will be destroyed
Time moves on
And things change
That’s life.
But just a note to say
It was not just a house, a parsonage
It was a home to many of us.
And it still brings and always will bring
Good memories
Of family life
Raising children there
Catching fire trucks
In front of the house
People knocking on the door
A man and his child waiting for us
The daughter to take our daughters
As he and I started to unload a moving
van.
Young people from the church
Feeling like it was their home also
Good memories of house that
Became a home.
Thank you
Clarkesville First United Methodist
Church
The house next to the church
Will always be remembered
As a good place
To call home.
We invite our congregation to join us on May 7th as we observe
National Day of Prayer. We will gather from 11:00am-1:00pm in the Sanctuary
to observe this special day. Come when you can, and stay as long as you like.
We will pray together for our church, community, state, and nation. God loves a
praying church!

Registration for the 2015/2016 school year is in
full swing! We have had many prospective parents visit
the preschool, and our two year old class is almost
full! We do have spaces left for three and four year old
children. If you know anyone who is thinking about
CFUMCP, please tell them to call TODAY.
We had a fun filled Easter party with snacks,
games and an egg hunt! Thank you so much to Angel
Gudger and Mary Lanier for providing candy filled
eggs. To help the children understand the empty tomb,
we made resurrection rolls. The children opened their
roll and the marshmallow was gone! We are continuing
to teach the children that Jesus is alive and He is with us
always. Coming up in May, the Children’s End of the
Year Program will be on Thursday, May 21st at noon in
the Connection. We invite our congregation to attend!
Thank you for the generous donations of books
and toys. As the preschool grows, our need for supplies
grows. To the right, we
have a large ―wish list‖ of
books as we prepare for
next year. Thank you for
being so generous and
supportive! Susan Weidner,
Director CFUMCP
Well, the Children’s and
Youth Ministries have had a great
spring, and we are looking forward to
the summer! Most recently, the chil-
dren had a great time collecting as
many Easter Eggs as they could hold
at our annual Easter Egg Hunt, which
took place during Holy Week at the
Parsonage. During this time, the children also learned about why we cele-
brate Easter, the resurrection of Jesus. Thank you to the Butlers for hosting,
all who donated candy and Easter eggs, and Renn Taylor for bringing his bun-
nies! Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to
June Givan, Barbara Kirkland, and Beryl Alford for
stuffing Easter Eggs! We are grateful to all the people
and families who made this event possible!
The Youth Group celebrated spring break with
a couple of ―stay-cation‖ activities. We had a Nerf War
at the church, where we battled with foam darts. We
also met for lunch at Zaxby’s, which was a lot of fun!
To the left is a list of upcoming Children and
Youth activities. Parents, check your emails for up-
dates regarding these fun summer activities that you
won’t want to miss!

This month, our meeting will take place on Monday, May
4th at 5:00pm in the Stephen Ministry Classroom (S-4).

Our Connectional group of United Methodist Churches and our community
as well are knee-deep in fundraising for the next Food 2 Kids school year! Our
Connectional group is at a 100% participation level with packing, delivering, and
fundraising. We accomplish great things together! Letters have gone out to
churches and civic organizations across the community again this year, requesting
funds to help feed hungry schoolchildren on the weekends during the 2015-2016 school year. As of
April 21st, our church family has sponsored 20 children! Track our progress at the bulletin board in
the Fellowship Hall to see how many of the ―students‖ get red ―sponsored‖ hearts. Thank you for
your compassion and generosity that continue to fill the tummies of our hungry kids!
During our scheduled Connectional Ministry meeting at Cornelia UMC, Sunday, May 17th at
3:00pm, Rene Grant will share a Food 2 Kids update. All are welcome. New supporters, donors, and
volunteers are sought for this wonderful ministry!
Book Sale, benefitting Food 2 Kids: Just in time for summer vacation! Discontinued and
gently used books from the Church Library will be ―on sale!‖ during the month of May in the Fellow-
ship Hall. Books to entertain – to inform – but best of all, to help feed children! Proceeds will go to
our Food 2 Kids outreach.

This month’s Special Offering :
Wesley Woods
\ This month’s Special Offering Sunday is May
10th, and benefits Wesley Woods, an older adult re-
tirement community ministry of the North Georgia
Conference, with a network of nine communities
across North Georgia. One-third of the residents live
below the federal poverty line and over 75% are reli-
ant on some form of financial assistance. This annual
offering goes to serve those residents with the greatest
need so that no one has to leave their Wesley Woods
home if their personal funds are exhausted. Thank you
for supporting this ministry of caring for those who
have cared so lovingly for others through the years.
GIVE Thank you for your generous giving!

Three Great Speakers in May
Our own Rev. Dr. Phil DeMore will be the preacher in our traditional wor-
ship services this very Sunday, May 3rd. You don’t want to miss it! I will be elsewhere, conducting a wedding for a niece in Atlanta and attending all the social
functions connected with that glorious event.
I encourage all laity and staff to attend the Connectional Meeting of Habersham County United Methodist Churches on Sunday, May 17th, at 3:00pm at Cornelia UMC. An informative
presentation will be made by Rev. Dr. Mike Selleck from the North Georgia Conference concern-ing the essentials of local church organization. Also, a Food 2 Kids update will be shared by Rene
Grant.
On Sunday, May 31st, we begin a Spring Bible Study here at Clarkesville First UMC, with our special guest, Dr. Blake Neff, a professor at Indiana Wesleyan University, and a noted author
and lecturer. Dr. Neff is a compelling teacher and you will be blessed during four evenings of learning at 6:30pm, Sunday through Wednesday. The other Habersham UMC’s will join us, so we
hope to have some special music each night in lieu of our normal Fifth Sunday Night Singing.
