Dear fellow Toastmasters,

Above are the new division governors that were present at the Poznan conference. Their task

is to help the district, the area governors and the clubs in achieving their goals. They will form

their teams and arrange division conferences and officer training sessions, and they will

inspire and lead.

Perhaps that is why we haven’t been able to reach all district leaders to obtain their

communication to YOU for their goals this coming year. In that case, they will be in the next

issue.

Look up your own area governor and division governor. We have listed them together with the

clubs they are responsible for. They will also be on the district web site. Ask them to contribute

when they do their club visits (one in the autumn and one in spring).

Distinguished, Distinguished, Distinguished, Distinguished! Morag Mathieson, District Governor

The final results for 2011-2012 will be announced soon and, thanks to everyone’s effort

and achievements, it looks like District 59 will be a President’s Distinguished District

once again. This means we are one of the top six districts in the world in terms of

achieving educational awards, recruiting and retaining members, and chartering new

clubs.

Thank you and well done to everyone whose contribution has made it possible. Isn’t it

great what we can achieve together? H.E. Luccock said: “No one can whistle a

symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.”

At the beginning of a new Toastmasters year we are standing on the threshold of a new

adventure. Our district has grown to have 14 divisions and we are preparing for the next

stage of reformation. It means a time of facing and embracing change.

Like my predecessors, my goal is to lead our district to become a President's

Distinguished District once again.

However the goals for becoming President's Distinguished have changed this year. The

new District Recognition program depends, in addition to club and membership growth,

on clubs being distinguished. This is a major change for us this year and will mean a

strong focus on quality clubs as well as growth.

Distinguished clubs are needed for distinguished areas and for distinguished divisions

and, of course, for a distinguished district.

I practice Thai boxing at least once a week. It is a tough sport. It requires good physical

condition and a lot of technique to get the right moves. The trainers are focused and

strict, but they are nice guys.

Often, I hear this question from other people: “Why on earth do you do such a sport?”

and, frankly, sometimes, I ask myself the same question. Why do I go there? It is a

tough activity, my work day is long and my motivation is low.

But after the training session, all these mediocre thoughts vanish. Because after the

training session is over, I am proud of having kept up, and I am proud that I gave all I

could and showed people around me what I am capable of. Yes, sometimes, I get a

black eye, but if I really wanted to do something safe, I would have chosen ballet

instead of Thai boxing!

Does this kind of behavior ring a bell? It does to me, but for my other hobby:

Toastmasters. People ask me “Why do you need to go there?” My work day did not

become shorter in the meantime and, again, I start asking myself “Why do I go there?”

But at the sight of my fellow Toastmasters, again, all these mediocre thoughts vanish. I

want to give all I can during the table topics and show people what I am capable of

during the prepared speeches. The beauty of Toastmasters is that, unlike my

opponents at the gym, so far, no evaluator has punched me in the face!

So who do you want to be? The quitter? The guy who gave up? Or the person who

knows that the rewards are even bigger than the effort to come?

If you are reading these lines, it means that you have undertaken serious steps for your

personal growth. I am confident that each and every one of us is part of the group who

wants to reap the benefits of Toastmasters. Let's keep up, let's give all we can for our

speeches, and I promise you: you'll be proud of yourself!



My unique encounter with the world champion of public speaking

Has it happened to you to be in some place by accident and then a remarkable thing happened in

your life?

Tired after three public speaking contests on Friday, preparing for the fourth one on Saturday, I

planned to spend a day with my family in Poznan, outside the District 59 conference. But out of

the blue, I was sitting in a large room next to the moderator of the German- speech contest filling

out forms (Eligibility and Originality, Biographical Information). At the same time Mark Hunter -

World Champion of public speaking in 2009 was delivering his keynote speech.

I remember his words not to blame others and the world for misfortune, for fate - ‘don’t get stuck

in blame’. Mark has been confined to a wheelchair after his accident. This fact does not prevent

him from having an active life. It did not prevent him from earning the World Championship of

Public Speaking, from teaching and inspiring others and from traveling.

Mark talked about diversity, which is everybody’s life, a diversity which is not competition. And I

thought that Division C (Northern Germany and Poland) which I led in 2009-2010 was so

successful because of diversity: three official languages, many unofficial, two countries with

different mentalities, a huge geographical area, and our division’s motto - success through

diversity and co-operation.

The World Champion recommended that each of us should become an explorer, not a tourist.

When you come to a Toastmasters club, you are like a tourist – your path is safe and predictable,

you have a mentor, you have manuals. To meet yourself and to develop, you have to be an

explorer. It means taking over leadership roles at your club, area, division, district, organizing

events, attending contests and many others. Let’s follow new paths, which are often inconvenient.

Mark presented the audience the so called kangaroo principle as a perfect one for discovering

and fulfilling our potential.

At some point Mark said the kangaroo he holds on his knee was a gift for the real explorer. He

asked who in the last days earned the DTM – the highest recognition at Toastmasters. I thought I

did. But was he talking about me? Mark added that this was the first DTM in Poland ever. Mark

invited me on stage in the presence of fellow Toastmasters from all over Europe. It was a very

moving moment for me.

I had a chance to continue this unique encounter with the World Champion of public speaking in

a train going with fellow Toastmasters after the conference from Poznan to Berlin. Mark turned

out to be a man of many interests, with curiosity about people and the world. Together with

Silvana, Dirk and Mark, we talked about the European Championships in football, the differences

and similarities between people in Poland and Germany, team work, my commitment as Division

Governor, the leadership of women in business and non-profit organizations, on how to educate

children, how my mother allowed me already as a child to release my potential as a leader, about

the funny pitfalls of languages. There was much laughter at the same time (especially from our

friend Silvana. I adore her laughter :-) and human kindness.

Be an explorer, not a tourist. Do not look for excuses, don’t play the blame game. Take over roles

at Toastmasters and in your life. Appreciate diversity, which is our big strength. Meet other

people, meet yourself and realize your potential.

Once again, it is time for the Golden Quill and the Sparkling Pixel Awards. With the Golden Quill,

the District rewards the best newsletter of a club, area or division. Judging criteria include

promotion for the club, educational goals achieved, member recognition, calendar, coverage of

events, integration into area, division and district events, legal information (copyright),

presentation (design, use of the official logos and readability) and distribution (use of bcc instead

of cc when e-mailing!).

The Sparkling Pixel Award recognizes the best club Web site. Judging criteria regarding content

and presentation are essentially the same. Use of the EasySpeak Web portal makes it much

easier to create a Web site that meets official Toastmasters International guidelines.

Rede-Marathon in München Edgar Niklaus,

Am Samstag den 12.5.2012 pünktlich um 10 Uhr startet der

1. Rede-Marathon in München. Es gab auf die Sekunde

genau 12 Stunden Toastmasterprogramm. Das entspricht

einer Zeit von 6 Toastmasterabenden bzw. 3 Monate mit

jeweils 2 Toastmasterabende im Monat. Was für ein

Mammut-Programm.

sportlichen Charakter als Marathon nicht vorgesehen. Damit

diese Programm auch zeitlich durchgeführt werden konnte,

mussten sich alle Teilnehmer an die vorab verteilten

Spielregeln halten.

Ein Hauptziel unseres Rede-Marathons war auch, dass

möglichst viele Toastmaster noch ihr

nächstesToastmasterziel, sprich ihr nächstes Handbuch

abschließen konnten. Diese Ziel wurde mit dem Rede-

Marathon eindrucksvoll erreicht wie die folgende Tabelle

zeigt.

Für alle Toastmaster dürfte es auch interessant sein, wie es

zu dem Rede-Marathon gekommen ist. Jeder TM der

beschlossen hat ein Leben nach dem Competent

Communicator zu leben, wird irgendwann mal mit dem

Thema High Performance Leadership Programm kurz HPL

konfrontiert. Um den Distinguish Toastmaster zu erreichen

benötigt man den Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG),

habe ich am Rede-Marathon erreicht, und den Advanced

Leader Silver (ALS). Meine Vision zum Rede-Marathon

lautete wie folgt.

Vision

Reguläre Toastmasterabende dauern immer nur zwei

Stunden. Ich würde gerne mal ein richtig langes

Toastmastermeeting erleben. Ein Meeting bei dem mehrer

Stunden geredet und bewertet wird. Einen ganzen Tag lang.

Mit möglichst vielen Toastmastern. Alle Teilnehmer sollen

Spaß haben, die Möglichkeit zu netzwerken und natürlich

sich weiterzuentwickeln.

Wie Ihr seht, konnte ich meine Vision erfüllen. Statt

ursprünglich 8 Stunden geplanter Veranstaltungsdauer,

haben wir sogar 12 Stunden Rede-Marathon erlebt.

Das positive Feedback während und nach dem Rede-

Marathon zeigt mir, dass die Veranstaltung gut

angenommen wurde und allen Teilnehmern gefallen hat.

Das positive Feedback gibt mir die Hoffnung, dass es

nächstes Jahr einen 2. Rede-Marathon geben könnte. Wir

brauchen hier natürlich einige begeisterte Toastmaster die

hier tätig werden wollen.

Speech marathon in Munich

On Saturday May 12, 2012, the very first speech marathon

was held in Munich. It was 12 full hours of speeches,

educational sessions, table topics, speech evaluations,

moderation and toastmastering. The monumental program

was the equivalent of 6 normal Toastmaster meetings or 3

months with two meetings per month.

For every hour, there was a new Toastmaster leading the

meeting. Every speaker had an evaluator and there was a

time keeper and a sergeant at arms. No breaks were taken

as the marathon is a game for athletes. Rules were set up

beforehand and all participants had to keep to them for us to

be able to manage everything on time.

One of the major reasons for doing the speech marathon

was to give as many Toastmasters as possible a chance to

complete their goals and their manuals. Nine different award

goals were reached during the day, which speaks for the

success.

All toastmasters who decide there is a life after the

Competent Communicator award, will eventually come

across the HPL program (High Performance Leadership).

This is one step on the way towards the Distinguished

Toastmaster award that requires the fulfillment of Advanced

Communicator Gold (ACG) and Advanced Leader Silver

(ALS).

The speech marathon was my HPL project and I completed

my ACG during the meeting.

Vision

An ordinary evening meeting for a Toastmasters club only

lasts for about two hours. I very much wanted to experience

an exceptionally long Toastmaster meeting, a meeting that

would take the whole day and would include more of

everything – hours and hours of speeches and evaluations,

lots of fun and networking and opportunities to learn and

grow.

As you can see, my vision come true. Instead of the initially

planned 8 hours, we had 12 hours of Toastmastering. The

feedback during and after the meeting was very positive.

There was a lot of positive feedback during and after the

speech marathon and clearly this was a popular event. I

hope that we will be able to do this again next year if we

have a second speech marathon. We only need a few

dedicated Toastmaster members to take care of the

arrangements.

First of all, I want to thank my team: Brigitte Herder, Erwin

Waas and Sandra Eggelhöfer. Only through their athletic,

stressful but timely contributions and their competence,

could the speech marathon be accomplished with such

good results.

I would also like to thank all the speakers. You were the salt

in the soup. Without you there wouldn’t have been any

speech marathon. Thank you all for making the first speech

marathon in Munich come alive with your speeches,

educational sessions, evaluations, jokes, improvised

speeches and workshop facilitation..



El Dorado Olivia Coker, Züriberg Toastmasters, Zürich, Switzerland,

When I last inscribed my thoughts on the virtual pages of

the Clarion in December, I had just commenced my

pilgrimage to the rhetorical El Dorado. Six months later, I

view the Toastmasters terrain around me more acutely.

New oracles and landmarks dot the landscape, as do

craters testifying to my mistakes, particularly in my

leadership role, and potential pitfalls still half in shadow.

But barely had I launched myself into it, at the area contest,

when I was disqualified for time — simply couldn’t find the

timer!

In a few seconds of overtime, the halitosis of fate had

smothered my speaker’s flame, leaving a

putrid, smoking wick. Was there a curse on

the name Olivia?!

I seethed impotently for two weeks, before

finally pulling the plug on the maudlin routine

and attending once more to the people and

events in my club. On being elected

President for the next term, I began in my

mind to draft a strategy for the year, a plan

to help the club evolve as swiftly and surely

as possible. We would erect new standards

of education, encouragement, and

empowerment — my TM mantra — and

initiate as many members as possible into

the enduring quest for the city of golden

oratory.

The memories of the Basel conference had not entirely

dissipated, and I approached the Poznan conference with a

sense of anticipation, hoping, at the very least, to bring back

some morsel of wisdom I could pass on to my club

members. Despite my own glaring absence on the stage,

there would, probably, still be inspiring speakers, edifying

workshops, and new friendships.

Nope.

Just kidding! There were too many highlights to list, so I’ll

leave it to others to expound on their favorites, and I’ll share

mine.

Dear Poznan team, what a spectacular feat of hospitality!

The twin-peaked summit: if anything can compare to the live

strains of Chopin during dinner, it can only be Queen at the

award ceremony.

Olivia Schofield offered expert speech tips, as did Mark

Hunter, both focusing on different facets and

complementing each other perfectly.

I was reminded of the tremendous skill required to chisel out

7.5 minutes of unadulterated gold in the prepared speeches,

and I marveled again at the composure and quick wit

necessary to deliver a coherent impromptu speech,

especially apt evaluations, under the gaze of 200 or more

spectators.

But to me the most transcendent moment of the conference

was Peter Zinn’s chairing of the speech finals.

He began by exhorting the audience not to skimp on the

applause; after the speeches he summoned the finalists

AND semifinalists to the stage for a well-deserved tribute;

and finally, at the award ceremony, he

commended the efforts of each Poznan

contestant. In a few kind words, Peter reminded

us all of the heart and soul each speaker

invests to earn his or her place in the district

contest.

It is a long pilgrimage, as we painstakingly craft

those lucid yet magical moments of connection.

Our individual histories, thoughts, and feelings

gradually crystallize against the backdrop of our

collective history as a civilization and as a

species. We test the resonance of each

deduced truth, step by step, through the

complementary exchange of speech and

evaluation over the course of months and even

years, a symbiotic process which helps us distill our ideas

and deliver messages of the caliber and intensity witnessed

at the district level and beyond. We are striving for the

human connection; and the long, collaborative process is as

invaluable as the result.

This is the message Peter’s kindness and generosity at that

crucial moment reinforced; it was that morsel of wisdom I

had sought to help me lead my club in the coming term.

To everyone from club members to district leadership: I wish

you passion, discipline, love, joy, patience, and mercy on

this pilgrimage. Those of us who continue past the pitfalls

are not in search of the gaudy pleasures of a city of fool’s

gold. We seek the genuine warmth radiating from truth,

understanding, and friendship. That is our El Dorado.

chartérisations. Nous l’envisageons pour le 1er trimestre 2013. Le club d’Aix en Provence débute et en est à sa troisième réunion.

Le projet de septembre est un club bilingue à Nice ville.

Enfin dans un avenir un peu plus lointain, je vise Toulon et Marseille.

I joined Toastmasters Fonske Leuven in 2009 and stepped into a club which was not even chartered yet. It was rough sailing at

the start, but after two years of hard work by me and my fellow officers the tides are changing for the better. For the past two

years we have also achived Distinguished Club status. During my terms as VP ED and club president I had to learn a lot and fast.

And this learning and go-getting attitude is what I will be bringing to the newly organized division. As they say: ‘There are no

problems, only opportunities!'

The governor's team of Belgium will this year focus on strengthening the foundations of the members and the clubs. I believe that

by increasing the quality of our service to the member and focusing on them, the rest will come. More CC's, CL's, AC's and new

members.

Our two main goals will be to get the current membership fired up to start/restart at long last that dream of attaining their

educational and leadership goals. And get them excited about attending and participating regularly in club meetings. Excellence

is the best advertisement! Looking forward to serving the Toastmasters of Belgium during the coming year!

helping Presidents and officers to leverage the resources provided by the rest of the Toastmasters organization

facilitating exchanges between club officers

Dutch, German, English – Belgium's Area B2 helps its members develop communications and leadership skills in many

languages. As an Area Governor, I want to support the four clubs in the area in building magnetic club atmospheres in which

members thrive with ease and leaders joyfully step up.

I joined Toastmasters in 2007 and became VP Membership shortly after. In 2010 I stepped up: I won the European Evaluation

Contest (in German) and was elected President of my home club, Black Forest Toastmasters. Next year, I hope to complete my

ACS and ALS.

Outside of Toastmasters, I work as a consultant, facilitator and coach, helping world-changing organizations communicate better.

Originally from Valencia (Spain), the land of the flowers, light and love. I have lived abroad half of my life and in Brussels for the

past 7 years. I discovered Toastmasters in the multilingual capital of Europe, joining the first bilingual club (English/Irish) in

Belgium. A few years later I sponsored and chartered the first Spanish/English TM Club in Belgium in 2010, being its first

President. Toastmasters has honed my communication and leadership skills and it continues to do so. Brussels has the plus of

offering 9 TM clubs (5 of them bilingual) in the same city; Members can improve and achieve excellent communication skills in

other languages than their native one. New Area B4 includes 4 bilingual clubs, covering 5 languages in total: English, Irish,

Spanish, Flemish, and Romanian.

I'm passionate about law, languages and literature. Toastmasters is therefore the perfect mix between pleading, writing and

I am a passionate Toastmaster. I first joined Toastmasters in 1999. I have been a member of the local Toastmasters club

wherever I have lived (Stuttgart, Hamburg and Berlin). In Berlin I even joined both English clubs.

I am a committed Toastmaster. Currently I am the president of Mercury Toastmasters Berlin. Before that, I was Mercury's VP

Public Relations twice. In Mercury, we increased the frequency of meetings from twice to three times a month to meet members'

needs. We held a demo meeting at the university in Berlin and are currently working towards a new club at the university. I

organized the Berlin visit of the International President Pat Johnson in May 2011. I supported the officers' training sessions by

giving presentations (area governors Charles Whitmer and Sari Saleh). I took particular pride in attending area, division and

district conference, supporting contestants from Berlin. I consider myself to be a notorious cheerleader.

In my job at Bombardier Transportation's HQ I have organized several conferences for participants from all around the globe. The

organization comprises designing the concept of the conference from topcis to speakers to workshops. Naturally, the organization

requires the work of an entire team. My job was also to lead and to motivate the organization team.

Uta has been a Toastmaster since 2002 when she first joined Esprit de Corps Toastmasters, Frankfurt/Main. In 2011 she

transferred to Berliner Meisterredner. Why Toastmasters? Because of its broad variety of personal growth opportunities in a

unique atmosphere of respect, appreciation and mutual support.

Communication rules the world. Personal development is key to success. People are her passion. Her aim is to support C1 clubs

achieve their DCP targets and to provide an excellent learning environment for officers and club members.

Uta is committed to pursuing her predecessor's objectives, helping two clubs to charter in Berlin: Spandau Toastmasters and

Steglitz Toastmasters. Her long-term vision is to charter two bilingual clubs in Berlin: French-German and Spanish-German.

Besides Toastmasters, you may encounter Uta riding her bike in Berlin or practising Iyengar yoga. Since 2010, she has been

hooked on improvisation theatre, source of inspiration for her Table Topics, speeches and upcoming officer training sessions.

Toastmasters is a great place to grow. I have been a member for 4 years now and I like to put a lot of time into both of my clubs in

Leipzig.

As a professional coach and trainer I appreciate Toastmasters as a great place of enduring education and a playground.

I will help each club to develop an individual plan that suits the needs of the club, support the executive committees in following

I was prepared to be an area governor in the year 2013/14, but when the chance came already now I was glad to jump in.

I have been with Toastmasters since April 2009 and worked from the beginning as a Club officer. Last year I was president of two

Clubs: Berliner Meisterredner and Adlershot Toastmasters. I have organized workshops and event and this year the 10 year

anniversary of the Berliner Meisterredner. My goal as I worked on it was for it to be an event that people talk about for years.

This year the area is split and a lot of new things are on my Toastmaster list. I want to bring the area to a well-working community

and support the new team. First on the agenda is an officers meeting.

1. To have three if not four President's Distinguished Areas and become President's Distinguished Division by the end of April

2013.

2. To see the Czech Republic become a Division with three Areas supporting 3-4 Czech-language clubs and 10 English-language

clubs.

A veteran Toastmaster, Otto has served in various positions, including club president, area governor and Division D governor.

Currently he is a member of three clubs. His home club is the VIC Toastmasters, a club in the United Nations center of Vienna.

He is a charter member of the Wiener Toastmasters Rhetorik Klub (the first German-language club in Austria), and of the Vox

Fortis advanced club.

Otto is a nuclear physicist by training and worked for most of his career for an international organization based in Vienna. In his

job, he had to deliver lectures and workshops in such diverse places as Brazil, India, Italy, Japan and Mongolia, and he says he

could never have done it without the experience he gained in Toastmasters.

While he has presented all his manual speeches up to DTM in English, Otto sees the greatest potential for Toastmasters in the

local languages, such as new German-language clubs in Austria. He believes that the production of more educational materials in

German and other European languages will be a key issue in the coming years.

David started his Toastmastering in 2006 when he was quickly roped into being Sergeant-at-Arms for the Bohemian

Toastmasters Club in Prague. After a stint as club president, he founded the first Czech-language Toastmasters club, Amplion,

and was its president in the year 2011-2012.

As Area Governor of D2 he hopes to see growth of up to two new clubs as well as strengthening club membership. He will

encourage inter-club cooperation to enable more varied learning, communication and social opportunities.

I´m originally from Toledo, Spain. Why did I join Toastmasters? When I was a kid, I always liked to read poems at school, act in

theatre plays and read texts in public. When I moved to Madrid to study at the university I enjoyed taking part in different debates

and I even re-built the debate club at my university. My "Public Speaking" teacher recommended me to join Toastmasters. I was

the first student following her advise and it changed my speaking life.

As Area E3 Governor I would like the area to continue its growth and to create at least one or two new clubs. What I particularly

like is the high quantity and quality of committed leaders and the marvellous speakers it has. I´m extremely happy to serve as

Area Governor for Geneva and I would like to implement a cross-club Mentoring Plan and a Speakers Network.

Within the first 20 minutes of my first visit at a Toastmasters evening in September 2011, I knew that I would be joining and that

Toastmasters would come to play an important role in my life, with benefits in both my social and professional capacities. As a

Consultant Health Economist, I frequently present study outcomes to clients and at symposia, and the ability to deliver a

presentation well is imperative. Furthermore, the experience gained in Table Topics, thinking on one's feet, and fulfilling the

countless other roles within Toastmasters all contribute to being a more efficient speaker.

My aim for this year is twofold: I hope to help the clubs grow in membership; and provide the infrastructure for the development of

individuals within each club, through training, mentorship and cross-pollination between the clubs.

Ultimately the focus is on what I can do for the area. Training sessions will aim to encompass a wide range of subjects directed at

club management and officer training whilst embodying the development of individuals for the collective benefit of clubs and

Toastmasters as a whole.

What I got out of Toastmasters to date is so much that I will not be able to repay my debt to the organization in my lifetime, but I

am chipping away at it by taking up the role of Division F Governor for the year 2012-2013.

Born in 1953 and raised in the Netherlands I moved to New Zealand in 1983. My worst nightmare became reality, when I went

back to university in 2000 in New Zealand to complete a master degree, which I completed in 2004. One of the elements of a

communication paper was to write, prepare and deliver a speech. Someone suggested me to get in touch with a Toastmasters

club. I did.

There was a club within walking distance of my house. I entered the meeting room with trembling knees, sweating like a horse,

but was welcomed with warmth and gratitude. The experience was so satisfying that I joined on the night. I was truly bitten by the

Toastmaster bug, became a very active member, serving on the executive committee in different officer roles.

I enjoy building new contacts, friendships and bridges between clubs, areas and divisions. Apart from building I like problem

solving and finding solutions for ‘derailed’ situations. Both skills serve me well. The contribution of fellow Toastmasters helps me

tremendously to hone these skills.

I am looking forward to a rewarding Toastmasters year with lots of learning experience in my role as Division F Governor. The

challenge is out there, one does not cross an ocean by looking at it!

Rodolfo has been in Toastmasters since March 1995. He has been a district officer, serving 1998-2002, and was selected District

28 Division Governor of the Year 2001-02. District 59 is his sixth District as he was previously in Districts 55, 33, 66, 28, and 27.

He has held every club office, with the exception of Treasurer, so he understands what it is like to be: 1) a member, 2) a club

officer, and 3) a district officer. He plans to share his experience over the past 15-plus years with his clubs and any new clubs that

develop within the area.

Immediately after Jazzmin joined Mannheim International Toastmaster Club in 2008 she started to build up a German-speaking

club in her home town. The Rhetorikclub Mannheim is well established now and got 15 new members this year. Jazzmin belongs

to both clubs and is a regular guest at other Toastmaster clubs in the area. In Heidelberg, she has helped significantly as a coach

while rebuilding the club from low membership levels, by attending almost every meeting and helping new members to get up to

speed so they can take more demanding roles at the meetings.

Her goals as Area Governor are to strengthen the clubs, make sure that the momentum continues, bring creativity and fun into

club meetings, and to start a company club. In her 4 years with Toastmasters, she has visited clubs on four continents. Because

she spends a couple of months every year in Cape Town she is well connected to Toastmasters in South-Africa. She has used

this experience to bring a lot of new ideas to the clubs in Mannheim.

I stumbled upon Toastmasters while working for the U.S. Army in Chievres, Belgium, but I did not join until April 2004 when I

moved to Heidelberg, Germany. In Heidelberg, I joined the Heidelberg International Toastmasters Club, where I learned and

grew into the Toastmaster I am today. We had many fine Toastmasters there and we all had a very special bond. At Heidelberg,

I was President in 2005-2006 and the club achieved all 10 points to become a President’s Distinguished Club. I also held the

Treasurer and VP Education positions at Heidelberg and co-sponsored the Mannheim International Toastmasters Club. I

represented the Heidelberg club at the District 59 Humorous Speech Contest in Vienna in 2007. I took a sabbatical from

Toastmasters and later found a job with the U.S. Army in Wiesbaden in 2011. I missed Toastmasters and joined the Mighty Word

Weavers Club in 2012 and renewed my membership with the Heidelberg International Toastmasters Club. Word Weavers is a

very special club with a superb atmosphere. At Word Weavers, I accomplished my Advanced Communicator Silver and was

nominated to be Vice President Membership 2012-2013.

As Area Governor, I want set the conditions for the Area F4 clubs to reach their goals. I plan to use everything within my means

to assist members to reach their aspirations. I would like to see the clubs grow in numbers as well as depth and it would not be

bad if each club becomes a President’s Distinguished Club in 2013.

My time in Toastmasters started in 2004 – together with my study of psychology after having worked six years in Hong Kong and

China. Since then, I have been President of Word Weavers twice and I am very proud that my fellow Word Weavers have

managed to achieve President’s Distinguished Club status each time. My new task will be Area F4 governor, a newly formed area

following the split of the original Area F3. Although my home club does not belong to that area, I know lots of people in the clubs

and have visited some of them before. I am looking forward to supporting the clubs in achieving their goals.

I joined Toastmaster of Paris in 2002 and quite rapidly volunteered for any role at club, area or district level. I assisted the Division

Governor Anna Eicher as Assistant Division Governor for Education and Training and coordinated the educational program for the

division conferences in Mallorca and Paris.

In Finland I’ve actively worked in order to create the Finnish TM Area; this was also my HPL project. I’ve promoted Toastmasters

in Finland, chartered three clubs and trained the club officers. From February 2010 till June 2011 I served as District PR Officer

and had an opportunity to be in contact with a great number of members and leaders in District 59. I’m thrilled about this coming

term as Division Governor. My objective is to achieve President's Distinguished Division award.

I’m from Denmark and I live in Stockholm. My first contact with Toastmasters was in September 2009. The reason I ended up at

that first meeting was that I got a new job in 2008. I was looking for a way to improve my Power Point. At that meeting I became

aware that speaking needed work (I already knew that my slides sucked).

So I joined Toastmasters (Stockholm International Toastmasters, an English-speaking club) and started improving my public

speaking skills. I joined the club Executive Committee as Treasurer in 2010, moved up to VP Membership and prior to becoming

Area Governor, I was the club president in the first half of 2012. I have the benefit of traveling a lot and delivering workshops and

training sessions as part of my work; my success so far is mostly due to practicing at Toastmasters.

I joined Toastmasters in April 2011 and I’m hooked. Toastmasters for life! I am a dual member of Copenhagen Toastmasters

founded the club.

My ambition for Area G2 is to build a strong foundation for future Toastmasters growth through spreading knowledge of our great

organization in media and among Human Resources professionals in the top businesses in our Area. Specifically, I want to grow

membership in Malmö well beyond 20 members as well as charter at least 3 new clubs in Denmark during the year. I also want to

conduct a professional officer training, host a screening of “Speak” and identify future club locations especially in Denmark,

I joined Toastmasters in August 2003 when living in London. I felt that I needed all the help I could get to improve my speaking,

presentation and listening skills. It took a while before getting absorbed by Toastmasters, however, now I’m a true believer.

Toastmasters have given me a lot and I hope to “pay back” by taking the Area Governor G5 role. I wish that more and more

people find Toastmasters and embrace this wonderful concept. As a new Area Governor my prime focus is to strengthen

I've been a member of Prestigious Speakers, Barcelona, since 2006 and was President for the past year 2011-2012. Following

the administrative split of Area H1 into two Areas (H1 and H2) as of 1st July 2012, my focus as the incoming H1 Area Governor,

which includes Mallorca Wordsmiths, Prestigious Speakers and two corporate clubs, EADA and Coty, will be to work within the

new administrative framework to ensure that all clubs feel part not only of their own Area, but also of the wider Barcelona/Mallorca

Toastmasters network.

The clubs within Area H1 are hugely diverse and it will be my objective to support each one according to its own, individual needs.

I have been a member of Toastmasters International since 2010 and was a founding member of Alicante Speakers Club. I have

served as Vice President of Education and as President. These positions have given me a lot of experience in working on the

development of our club and in cooperating with other clubs in the area to organise conferences and training days.

My goals for the year are to ensure that everything runs smoothly in our area, to make certain we have good quality training

sessions and area conferences and to encourage and motivate clubs to assess their strengths and weaknesses and to develop

club plans for the future. I am looking forward to visiting clubs and learning from them as well as giving them an outside

perspective.

Toastmasters provides such an excellent atmosphere for development. I would love to see the service reach more people. I will

work hard to help in the development of new clubs in our area next year. I have a lot of experience now in dealing with the issues

which a new club goes through and also in marketing the club in Alicante, so I will be able to offer a lot of support to people who

would like to start a new club.

I discovered Toastmasters in the early Spring of 2010. By mid-June of that same year I was a member and dived head first into

my CC manual. I was a woman with a plan: finish my CC in less than a year! And that would be it, I thought. Because of what

happened then, very gradually at first. By winter 2011 I began really to understand the deeper benefits of Toastmasters. I won't

say that it changed my life, but I discovered that there was a magical match between some of TI's core values and the things that

are important to me in life. At first I seemed instinctively to take up more and more roles and then I started to become more

organized about what I could do, for my club, and for the Division. Last year, I was VPE of my home club, Munich Prostmasters,

as well as PR Officer for Division I. This year I will be President of my club as well as Area I2 Governor and I'm looking forward to

a great learning experience as well as a year of coaching my various clubs in such a way that each club can achieve its own

personal best, because that is to me the core value of Toastmasters: each individual person, club, area, division and district can

benefit from the program according to their own goals and thus reach for their personal best in leadership and communication. As

an Area Governor, I will do more than just facilitate that, I will actively support it.

For 5 years I have been a member of Toastmasters. At the moment I am the outgoing VP Education of the Munich Media

Speakers, one of the newest and most successful clubs in the Bavarian capital. The main objective for me as Area Governor is to

inspire and motivate the clubs to grow and allow more people to profit from this outstanding concept for human growth. Another

objective is to implement the Youth Leadership project in other clubs (founded 3 years ago by Jörg Gütter - outgoing President of

Munich Media Speakers and myself). I am very excited about my role as Area Governor. It is a new challenge and a great

possibility for development.

Since I started out from humble beginnings as a novice Toastmaster in fall 2005, I have gone a long way in becoming an

advanced public speaker. I well remember the stage fright which I experienced when giving my first speeches. What has kept me

going was the support of my home club, Nuremberg Toastmasters, and the friendly environment which I am experiencing there.

So I have decided to assume club officer positions and the position of Area Governor in order to contribute a fair share to the

Toastmasters organization from which I have benefited so much. I have just come back from the District 59 Spring 2012

Conference in Poznan which has been a marvelous event with excellent contest speeches, evaluations and extremely inspiring

workshops and trainings. There I was appointed for the 2012/2013 term as Area Governor of Area I4, which covers all of northern

Bavaria. And I am highly motivated to support all four clubs including one German and three English speaking clubs. My goal is to

sustain the high quality of the club meetings in our area so that all of the club members can benefit from well-led club meetings. I

I am Area Governor for five clubs, four in Amsterdam and one in Leeuwarden. Two function in Dutch and three in English. My

background is as an experienced management trainer fHor more than twenty years. I feel passionate about improving people’s

leadership and speaking skills.

I initially joined toastmasters in Brisbane, Australia in 2004. When I moved back to Amsterdam I joined “De Sprekers”. I was

Sergeant at Arms at “De Sprekers” and President at “Het Sprekersgilde”, both for one year. I am an ACB and an ALS and I have

participated in several contests. In 2012 I participated in the Dutch Speaking contest in Antwerp. My speech is on You Tube in

Dutch. I have also guided a speechcraft program and various educational sessions.

My goal for 2012/2013 is to enhance the educational level in the clubs and to promote more team building. In my opinion the art

of performing is a combination of mastering the five P’s: Preparing, Profiling, Presenting, Persevering and Passion.

Meetings and members: that is the core business of clubs and what they should focus on. Make great meetings, always do the

utmost for the members.

I was a guest on a party boat in Amsterdam harbor, when I first learned about Toastmasters. I was impressed, excited, shocked

by what I saw and heard. I’m an IT project manager and looking for ways to improve my leadership skills. I saw leadership. I

admit, I’ve still so much to learn. For that reason serving the clubs in Area Governor J2 is a great learning opportunity. The area

consists of three Dutch clubs and two English clubs in the middle and east of the Netherlands. One more to go.

In April, 2012 I co-founded the chartered club Amersfoort Toastmasters. I learned that founding a club is fun, and yes, a lot of

work, but worth the effort. My tactic was to involve as many fellow toastmasters as possible from other clubs to give the utmost for

the guest and to set the example for great meetings and it resulted in an enthusiastic club. My aim is to share my experience with

the clubs I support in the Area.

Each toastmaster, club, area and division has a better one hidden inside. My main goal as a governor is to identify possibilties to

grow and facilitate the realization of the plans and ambitions of the six clubs in my area. J3 consists of four English clubs (one of

them corporate), one Dutch and one Celtic club. Together with my fellow governors I’ll exert myself to build on last year’s

achievements in the division.

My home club is Rotterdam Toastmasters, which I joined in 2010 to learn to structure my thoughts ‘on the spot’ and convey my

message confidently within a given timeframe. Being a secretary in 2011-2012, co-organizing an area contest , giving speeches in

other clubs in my area, participating in contests and meeting all those enthusiastic people in our district fed my appetite to do

more within and for Toastmasters.

I live and work in Rotterdam, the city that stole my heart since I visited its famous film festival in the last year of my studies. I

worked in the arts sector (festivals, site specific theatre, arts council), the social sector (sheltered employment) and the cleaning

and waste collection department. My current job is project manager (labor market and economy) for the City Council. My main

topics are harbor, industry and technology, sustainable procurement and European projects.

I’m convinced the best conditions for learning are an open and warm environment, a variety of challenges to try out and people

who believe in you and support you. That’s what I got in Toastmasters, and that’s what I want to give this year.

Marcel, who comes from Indonesia, is a member of two clubs in Eindhoven, English and Dutch clubs. He joined Toastmasters in

2008 and has held various club officer roles. Toastmasters in the Netherlands is growing and Area J4 is a new area within

Division J, which consists of 1 Dutch club and 3 English clubs in the Brabant and Limburg area. He’d like to have at least another

Dutch club in his area this year.

As governor he will help the clubs in his area to continue being healthy clubs and to grow. His goal is to enhance relationship and

collaboration between clubs by having more joint efforts in organizing events and also encouraging members to visit each other’s

clubs. He will focus on supporting a recently chartered club in Maastricht.

He likes the enthusiasm and efforts of the members in his area in supporting each other to become better speakers and leaders.

This area comprises 4 English Speaking clubs in Hamburg, Buxtehude and Stade. For the upcoming Toastmaster year 2012-

2013 I would like to assist in further improving the cooperation of all clubs in this area, so that we can keep on learning from and

with each other.

I joined the First Hanseatic Toastmasters in 2004 and served on three Executive Commmittees before becoming a founding

member of Hamburg Power Speakers. I am proud to say that this young club has achieved credit for Presidents Distinguished

Club in the first full Toastmaster term.

One of the things I enjoy most at Toastmasters is meeting people from all different walks of life and learning from them. As I am a

sales consultant in my professional life I travel often. Whenever I can I visit a Toastmaster Meeting on my business trips and so I

could already meet Toastmasters from Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul. And hopefully sometime, somewhere, you as well!

Currently there are 4 clubs in the area and at least one more to come. The whole area is an economic hub and has a dense

population so there should be even more room for expansion. Personally, I joined Toastmasters almost five years ago and I held

offices as Treasurer, VP Education and President.

Now I'm looking forward to the next year as Area Governor in this great Area. In the last years we saw an enormous growth in the

clubs and new clubs were established. At the same time the quality was no less than excellent: Several district conference

winners come from our Area. My job is no more and no less than to support the continuation of this successful journey.

Besides Toastmasters, I'm cofounder and CEO of United Equity GmbH. I love nature, mountaineering and travelling to remote

places of our world.

Raised in England, rooted in Germany, an avid supporter of Toastmasters ever since joining back in 2007. My enthusiasm is

founded on appreciation. Nowhere else have I discovered an environment providing such an efficient potential for personal

growth as Toastmasters, it's awesome.

Next to my professional focus on leadership development, I also lecture regularly at Universities. When trying to encourage

students to establish a campus club, I was once confronted with a student who questioned my proposal: "... communication

training? speaking training? leadership training? I don't need that, I'm good at that." Stunned with this reply, I realized that

Toastmasters themselves seem to become more and more humble. The more we learn, the more we realize there is to learn.

That's what defines Toastmasters and it's the Toastmasters promise I look forward to sharing.

My ambition as Area Governor is to support existing clubs in the endeavor of developing their members' potential to the fullest.

My specific aim is to establish the first corporate club in our area, demonstrating that a competitive environment need not

necessarily exclude appreciation of each other.

I am an enthusiastic Toastmaster from Business Speakers Toastmasters Club (BSTC) in the beautiful city of Lisbon. I strongly

believe in people and our/your continuous improvement. I frequently visits other clubs and had helped creating new ones. I am

knowledgeable about other clubs activities and their counterparts (club officers). Area L1 is a new area and and we'll work to get

one more new club.

I was a member of the 2010-11 District Conference organization when Darren Lacroix and Pat Johnson participated in it. I was in

charge of logistics and negotiation for the venue, learned a lot and had fun with it! I'm proud to be part of the dynamic team from

Joining Toastmasters was one of the best decisions I made in my life. I´ve got a lot from Toastmasters: I’m a better

Communicator, better Leader, met wonderful people and made new friends. Serving Toastmasters the best I can is the least that I

can do to repay all the good things that I’ve been given.

I’ve been a member of Young Entrepreneurs Toastmasters Club (YETC) since it chartered in 2010. Last year (2011-2012) I had

the honor and privilege to serve as President. It was a fantastic journey with many things to remember: our club member Jorge

Crespo achieved the first place at the District Speech Contest in Poznan and is now appointed to represent District 59 in the

Orlando finals. This year I have the privilege to be Area L2 Governor and together with the team we aim to become a President’s

I´m a graduate in Economics, Management and Coaching and in my professional

life I am a manager, trainer and coach. I joined Toastmasters January 21, 2011 as

one of the first members of Coimbra and I chartered Coimbra Toastmasters Club in

the Center of Portugal on April 1, 2011. I served as President until June 30, 2012.

My goal as Area Governor is to help the clubs in my area build sustainable

success. My main target is to create more synergies between the clubs in my area.

I want to promote one idea of local speech contests of each club being organized

and evaluated by members of other clubs in the area, creating interclub

networking, knowledge, sharing of experience and sociability.

I want to increase the number of participants in speech contests and establish two

new clubs in my area. In my opinion every "50,000 hab" city in Portugal is waiting

and ready for a Toastmasters club. I want to create a great team with participation

visibility and notoriety for Toastmasters in my area.

Almost all Toastmasters I meet in my life say „Toastmasters has changed my life”. Of course, it is the same in my case! I am

happy to be a member and enjoy working with people here since I joined the club 3 years ago.

I had the pleasure to be PR officer in the Toastmasters Poznan club, then Area governor and recently treasurer of the Poznan

District conference. Now I will do my best to develop the new Division M covering the whole of Poland to achieve success. I want

to increase communication and cooperation among the clubs in the areas and division but also work on more effective promotion

of the organization. I see sharing the “Toastmasters experience” with others as one of the missions of my life.

There is one sentence that describes me: Impossible is nothing. I take risks in life without considering failure as an outcome and

adapt extremely fast to new situations. These two skills I find really important in living a happy and exciting life.

My educational and professional background is complex. I have studied and worked in the areas of history, political science,

European integration, diplomacy, human rights and logistics. My job allows me to travel a lot and gather valuable enriching

experience by meeting new cultures and visiting different Toastmasters clubs.

I have been a Toastmaster for four years now. My first two years as a Toastmaster were passive – I was a regular member trying

to make my way through the Competent Communicator and Competent Leadership manuals. The last two years were really

active – I found out what Toastmasters can give to everyone and decided to begin spreading the word and sharing my

experience. I held several club officer roles and just finished my term as President. My club achieved the President’s

Distinguished award really fast in the beginning of February and was placed first on the list of number of achieved educational

awards in the district. It is one of the fastest developing clubs in Poland.

This is the reason I decided to take the next step – becoming the Area Governor. I think that other clubs will benefit from my

experience and desire to help them develop and never be in crisis again!

Toastmasters is a life-changing experience! It made me a better person in each sphere of life – professional and personal. Now I

am ready to give the same back to all Toastmasters!

I’m Irish but I’ve been living in Luxembourg for the past 14 years. I joined Toastmasters in 2000 and in the 12 years I’ve been a

member I’ve gone from Gazette Editor to Club President to Area Governor to Division Governor. If only my professional career

had progressed so fast! Indeed I began my career as a language teacher but then moved on to business and administration. So

for me, Toastmasters is an opportunity to give to others the same educational opportunities I’ve had to improve my public

speaking skills and in so doing, become a better communicator and leader.

I am currently a member of three clubs in Luxembourg. In 2011 I set up a club at the European Investment Bank which is my

place of employment. I have also been involved in the rebuilding of a weak club. Both of these experiences have been fascinating

for me personally because they forced me to go beyond my comfort zone and use social networking and interpersonal skills I

didn’t realise I had! These are also key business skills in terms of goal-setting and working as a team in order to reach those

goals.

In 2012-2013 I will be Division Governor of the newly created Division N (i.e. English speaking clubs in France and Luxembourg).

I hope to help the three Areas Governors in this new Division develop their existing clubs and establish new ones where the

demand exists, because I believe there’s a growing demand out there for the unique self-development product only Toastmasters

provides!

I'm a relatively young Toastmaster from the dainty capital of a little country with a great name: Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Now,

I know for a fact that many of you would like to live in my country. I acquired Luxembourgish nationality at the turn of the century

after having left my native country over a decade and a half earlier.

As the governor of Area N1, I hope to promote communication and collaborative leadership amongst all the Toastmasters Clubs.

I look forward to putting in all my efforts at ensuring that all club officers within my area are trained and fulfill their roles but get all

the help that Toastmasters International and District 59 can provide them with to become even better leaders so that their clubs

progress and reach yet unknown heights of success.

Flemming started in Toastmasters in California in 1990, in Club 8. After his ATM, and after having vanquished his fear of public

speaking, he had a really long break. In 2007 he was asked to start a new club in Toulouse France, now Rosemasters, a thriving

bilingual club. Flemming has worn almost all the officer hats at one point or another. As AG he hopes to help create more clubs,

particularly in southern France. When he isn't speaking, he's probably busy plumbing his aquaponic greenhouse, or practicing

West Coast Swing dancing.

From the first Toastmasters meeting I attended in March 2006, I knew I wanted to be a Toastmaster!

My home club, Erlangen Toastmasters in Germany has been a great place to learn and develop in all manner of communication

and leadership skills as I undertook meeting roles and served my club and the District as an officer. I am regularly inspired and

challenged by other Toastmasters who strive to achieve and whose efforts take them beyond what they thought they could reach.

To the credit of all its members the club has been President’s Distinguished for each of the past 5 years.

Having active roles on the district executive committee, as District Secretary, Division D Governor and in 2011- 2012 as

Lieutenant Governor Education and Training, has given me the opportunity to work with members from all around our district and

beyond, supporting them to achieve their goals and developing together with them.

Serving as District Governor this year I want to share the same commitment, skill and passion that I have shared in all of my

Toastmasters roles to help us work together in District 59 to become a President’s Distinguished District once again.

From the first moment in Toastmasters, I was challenged by our program. At the first meetings, I had to gain courage to speak in

front of other people and to perform meetings roles. After a while, I was coordinating the club team and then helping the Area

Governor in training others. From that moment to Area Governor and Division Governor, it was simple. I had only to challenge

myself and show my knowledge in Toastmastering and have the courage to speak in front of an audience and do what has to be

done.

I have always tried to do the right things and assume challenges in some important areas like conferences. I created a team to

hold one of the best division conferences in our district (109 participants). It included a world Champion, Lance Miller, and a new

management model to stretch the usual low attendance. In 2011, I replicated this model with Pat Johnson and Darren Lacroix as

guest in the District Conference, though I was not the conference chair – I was only helping and coaching him.

Now I have finished my term as Lt. Governor Marketing with an amazing record of achievements in membership payments,

number of clubs and helping with important actions and decisions like reformation and new realignment.

As Lt. Governor Education & Training I plan to support the delivery of great conferences the better to prepare our Area and

Division Governors, to help our clubs be more successful with our educational program and in managing their meetings, to

develop more ways of sharing our learning and experience and to promote easy-Speak as our main tool for managing clubs and

meetings and to help our contest experience be more challenging and motivating.

I look forward to serving the District as Lt. Governor Education & Training this year and challenge every one of you to do your own

successful TM trip. I will share my energy and passion in this area with all of our members.

Toastmasters is Europe's best kept secret ! And it is a wonder that a colleague of mine brought me to my first meeting back in

2007 in Heidelberg. I really felt that public speaking and communication skills would be a must in my future professional life, but I

did not envision what a positive effect Toastmasters would have on me.I joined my first club in Stuttgart (Stuttgart International

Toastmasters Club) where I really got hooked. After a couple of months of training my public speaking skills, I discovered that

Toastmasters was not just about communication, but also about leadership. I took the roles of VP of Public Relations and

President and was finally nominated Area governor for Area F1. Being a leader at all these levels was a challenge as well as a

privilege, as the teams I have worked in were always passionate and cared about serving the members. For this year, fostering

the internal communication via Easy-speak, the Clarion and a blog is, I think, very important. Also, my goal is that, unlike me,

people discover Toastmasters not by accident, but because we made an impact on the press, the social media and companies by

communicating relentlessly to promote our organization.

I joined Toastmasters in 2006 and have had since then the chance to experience its unique atmosphere and learn a lot in four

clubs on three continents: first in Monterey, CA, then in Amman, Jordan, and finally in two clubs in Berlin, Germany. Last year I

served as District Conference Treasurer and thereby took a first glimpse into the vast and complex world of district finances. In

order to build upon this experience I will assume this year the role of the District Treasurer. This will give me the opportunity to

assist the district members with their financial issues. I am looking forward to this new leadership experience.

In the Non-Toastmaster-World I try to successfully juggle my job, hours-long training for my upcoming Ironman competition and to

spend as much time as possible with my baby daughter.

I live in Hamburg. I have been a Toastmaster for more than 5 years. The reason I joined was to practice my public speaking skills.

I am an active member in an English club, The First Hanseatic Toastmasters. I have served in a few officer positions, currently as

Club Treasurer. In my spare time I enjoy reading, walking, yoga, meditation, and dancing. I love Toastmastering and I believe I

have lots to give by serving in my position as Conference Treasurer. The diversity of this great district is something that fascinates

and inspires me. I enjoy meeting new Toastmasters. The rewards and benefits are worth every minute of time spent on helping

other Toastmasters discover their potential.

When my club, Toastmasters of Basel, asked me to be their Secretary in the first few months that I joined, I was nervous and

insecure. In fact, I was certain they had asked the wrong person to do the task. 6 months into my role, our VP Education moved

to the States, asking me to train and take over the role.

It would be an understatement to say I was not ready to take on the challenge. And yet, there was only yes when asked and I

ended up holding both roles that year. Of course it was an enormous learning curve and I asked to be nominated for VP

Education once more the following year because I was inspired to do the role even better. And I succeeded.

The obvious next role was to accept nomination for President. Again a remarkable experience, offering me insights into my

leadership style. Yes, being a control freak is a style…

My club committee and members provided me tolerance and feedback to get me on track using the structure Toastmasters is

founded on. Gratefully I can report that I was again able to go through a learning curve and leave my role feeling I had developed

into the professional I had always wanted to be.



Today when I look back, I feel proud and privileged to be a Toastmaster. It has provided me so much opportunity to learn, grow

and develop, that without it I am sure I would not have found the work where my passion lies…teaching communication!

And so I begin where I started as a Toastmaster, having been appointed Secretary for District 59. The wow effect is still coursing

over and through me. Because I feel so strongly about how important Toastmasters is in my life, I can now pay back to the

District all the gratitude I have. It is in this light that I go into the role of Secretary, learning, living and loving what I do and giving

back the joy and lessons I will learn.

As Immediate Past District Governor (IPDG) my main duties will be to support the new 2012-2013 district officers . What a great

team you have elected! I will be there to share my knowledge of the district and Toastmasters International policies and

procedures. My experiences will be helpful, I hope. I am also willing to step in where needed and be there just to listen when

needed. Often that is what helps the most. Other responsibilities are the credentials for voting at business meetings and chairing

the nomination committee for the 2013-2014 District 59 Officers. I find this positive. Filling this position will keep me involved and

I will be able to wind down slowly.

It was a pleasure to serve you as District 59 Governor. It was an absolutely amazing year. One I will never forget. Thank you for

putting your trust in me. I learned so much and enjoyed most of it. It is now time to step down and give others the great
