The CIVIL ENGINEERING SEMINAR 2011 (SINGAPORE), which is the second
technical seminar of its kind meant for younger‐generation Myanmar civil engineers and
organized by senior Myanmar civil engineers in Singapore, will be held on November 27, 2011
in Singapore. Looking back, it was really encouraging to see Auditorium‐full attendance on
December 12, 2010 at the epoch‐making first CIVIL ENGINEERING SEMINAR in Singapore.
The speakers were very keen to share their knowledge and experience and the participants
were no less eager to listen and take part.
As we all know, a large number of Myanmar civil engineers have been working in
Singapore for decades and are actively contributing to the construction industry in particular
and the economy of Singapore in general. Whatever their primary motivation for coming to
Singapore may be, Myanmar engineers have no doubt gained various kinds of professional
experience from their respective work. Some of them have also made good use of the
favourable educational system here to further their education and enhance their job
opportunities and social status. Many Myanmar engineers are holding high and responsible
positions at various companies and authority departments.
The CIVIL ENGINEERING SEMINAR 2011 (SINGAPORE) will be a grand technical
forum of the year 2011 for Myanmar civil engineers to share their knowledge and experience.
Young engineers and new‐comers will have a golden opportunity to learn from more
experienced brothers and sisters. This will help them to enrich their knowledge and adapt
themselves more quickly in the new environment of Singapore. It is hoped that, by observing
what the more senior and more experienced engineers are doing, they will also become
aware of what their moral obligations are, in their turn, to the younger generation of
Myanmar engineers. In short, Myanmar must help Myanmar, and this is the essence of
organizing this seminar.
The topics of the seminar cover a wide range of fields such as building demolition
practice in Singapore, substructure construction methods, marine pile installation methods,
construction planning and management, computer applications in geotechnical analysis and
design, etc. The speakers are all well experienced in their respective fields and there is no
doubt that the participants will gain something from this nonprofitable and nonpolitical
technical seminar.
Finally, all Myanmar civil engineers, from far and near and young and old alike, are
cordially invited to come and participate in this rare and interesting event, which no doubt
will prove to be fruitful and useful for them in their career as civil engineers.
