City of North Augusta Material Recovery Facility
By: Jason Sikes
North Augusta Material Recovery Facility History
The City of Augusta and North Augusta in
the early 90’s partnered together to establish a Regional Material Recovery
Facility.
In 1993 the Regional Material Recovery Facility was built to
process recyclables from both City of
Augusta and North Augusta.
Currently the Regional Material Recovery
Facility processes both Recyclables and Solid Waste from around the Central Savannah River
Area.
City of North Augusta Collection Method (Pre-Audit)
Blue Recycling Bags are used to collect the Commingled Recyclables.
The Blue Bags are delivered every quarter containing 16 bags per roll.
Upon filling the Blue Bags, they are then placed
into roll-carts mixed with the Municipal Solid
Waste.
The refuge container is
then picked up with an
Automated Side-loader
once a week.
The material is then transported
commingled with MSW, to the M.R.F. for sorting and processing.
