The Winter Season is upon us and initially when I think of this season, what comes to mind are the cold, brisk days when I lived in Colorado. While I enjoyed the white scenic splendor of the snow-capped mountains in my town, I appreciate the warmer, sunny winters of Southern California. Winter in Beverly Hills allows me to walk through any one of our many beautiful parks without having to trudge through the snow and enjoy the many outdoor activities and classes we have to offer through our Community Services Department.

While we hosted some spectacular events this past Fall, like the BH artSHOW in October and the Maison de Luxe Designer Show House in November, the Community Services Department’s Winter class and activity offerings are exciting and plentiful.

Music in the Mansion 2016 season at Doheny Greystone Estate begins January 24 featuring Sakura and Amicus Duo. A Father & Daughter Sweetheart Dinner & Dance in February and March gives fathers and daughters a chance to share a special evening together of dinner, dessert, music and dancing. The annual pet extravaganza, Woofstock 90210, returns on March 6 and features a pet parade, contests, pet-related vendors, animal adoptions, entertainment, food trucks and fun for the whole family.

Register at www.beverlyhills.org/bhreg.

Our beautiful Beverly Hills Public Library and Roxbury Library are available for your reading pleasure and what better way to enjoy the elements of winter than to curl up with a good book.

And when you need some fresh produce, don’t forget about The Beverly Hills Farmers’ Market. It’s open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 9300 Block of Civic Center Drive. The Community Services Showcase will be at the Farmers’ Market on February 28. You can learn more about programs and services offered through Community Services Department.

Library Storytime

It doesn’t get more local than this when produce sold at the farmers market actually is grown in Beverly Hills! That is what happened September 27 when members of the Beverly Hills Heart Helpers 4-H Club sold their own produce grown in the Greystone Mansion Demonstration Garden. The members planted, cultivated, harvested and sold butternut squash, popcorn on the cob, pomegranates, garden-grown herbal sachets, dried hot peppers, apple chips, kumquat and mulberry preserves and syrups, and candies and baked goods as well using a licensed kitchen. We are so proud of these wonderful members of our community!

See you at the market!
