For most of its length it will consist of cycletracks and junction improvements that keep cyclistssegregated fromgeneral trafc and will be suitablefor all ages and abilities, as well as giving improvementsfor pedestrians. Consultation on the route between the Bradford borderand Bramley has been on-going since February but Stanningley is an area that needs a different approach. In Stanningley there is a diversity of businesses plusresidential houses that all have their own needs from the street layout. To identify these needs we have held a series of local workshops which have led us to proposethe designs you see here. Instead of segregated cycle tracks we are proposing to enhance the streetscape, introduce a 20mph zoneand create an environment that will help local businessesto thrive, encourage people into the area for businessas well as visit the cafes, pubs and restaurants and enable cyclists to pass through in safety.About CityConnectThis section runs from the junction of The Beeches on Bradford Road through to the junction of Grangeeld Road on Town Street and is approximately 800m long. Objectives: Improve cycle and pedestrian safety. Enable businesses to continue to thrive. Reduce speed limit along Bradford Road/Town Street to 20mph to improve cyclist safety. Create horizontal trafc calming interventionsto ensure 20mph speed limit is self-enforcing. Ensure cyclists are safely integrated with vehicleswithin the carriageway. Improve the balance of functions between userswithin the street. Maintain existing on-street parking provision. Maintain/improve accessibility for businessesand residents.Enhance the appearance of Stanningley Centreto encourage use of its shops, restaurantsand services. Key Features: A streetscape that enables safer passageby pedestrians and cycles whilst maintaining its function as a major road. No segregated cycle track, cyclists to ridewith vehicles within the carriageway. A new 20mph speed limit proposed along theentire length of Section D that includes Bradford Road and Town Street. New gateway features for the 20mph zone toclearly indicate to all users that they are entering a different street environment. Creation of 2 roundels on the junction of Town Street and Richardshaw Lane, and Sun Fields, to improve trafc ow and reduce speeds. Horizontal trafc calming features at regularintervals throughout the street to maintain a self-enforcing 20mph speed limit, providing informal pedestrian crossing points. An increase of parking bays within the central area. Creation of designated short and long stayparking bays to ensure regular turnover and available spaces for local businesses. New tree planting and seating within the street.
