CIMCO Mark VIII Humicon
The Best Becomes Even Better!
HUMICON®
Rink DehumidifiersThe HUMICON is an industrial type dehumidifierdesigned and manufactured by Cimco forinstallation in ice rinks to eliminate fog anddripping water. Excess moisture in the rink canpresent serious building maintenance problemsto the rink owner, especially when skaters cannotsee the other end of the rink or curlers are irkedby bothersome bumps on the ice surface.
The best type of rink is one which has a “tight”construction, for this greatly reduces “fog anddrip” problems. It does not however eliminatethe cause, for moisture laden air tends toequalize, even through block construction. Andit is moisture laden is the cause of fog and dripin an ice rink.
The answer is to reduce, as much as possible, infiltration of outside air, and secondly toeliminate the moisture in the air inside thestructure. The HUMICON, especially designedwith moisture removing coils large air handlingcapacity and a quick defrost cycle, is a unit thatquickly gulps in moist air, extracts the moistureand returns dry warm air to the rink.
Two units are generally required in a rink with anice size of 85’ x 200’ for proper moisture removaland air circulation, and one unit is usuallysatisfactory for up to 4 sheets of curling ice.The building ventilation rate should always bereviewed to determine the actual moisture removalneeds of the dehumidification equipment.
Thousands of HUMICONS are already in use inNorth America; efficiently removing themoisture from damp air and reducing the causeof fog and dripping. HUMICON - a must forhappy satisfied skaters, hockey players, curlers, and building owners!

New Mark VIII Features• Available in both open drive and
hermetic scroll compressor models
• Direct drive blower eliminates fanbelt adjustments and replacement.
• Refrigerant sight glass and accessports located on side of unit foreasy service.
• New electronic defrost timerinitiates defrost only on demand.
• Filter Monitor light indicates whenfilters need changing.
• Electronic Humidistat option.
The HUMICON should be installed attwelve to fifteen feet above the ice surface,or in the truss space, since it is in this areathe air temperature will be the highest andwill be capable of holding the mostmoisture. The standard unit is designed forthe air to enter the back of the unit and tobe discharged through the fan at the frontA discharge cowl is provided to deflect theair in the vertical plane. The cowl may bereplaced with ductwork, if desired, toensure more even distribution of the air.
Care should be taken in locating the unitto ensure that the air leaving the unit willnot strike any obstruction. This could causethe air to be deflected on to the icesurface, or to be short circuited back to theair inlet, thus reducing the effectiveness of the unit.
Another consideration in locating the unitis the availability of a suitable drain tohandle the moisture and water removed. Itmay be located adjacent to an outside wallso that the condensate can be dischargedoutside the building. Alternatively, it can belocated adjacent to a heated area so thatthe drain can be run in the heated area toan open drain. A drain line heating cable isavailable as an accessory if required.
Consideration should be given to locatingthe HUMICON so that it is accessible forservice without having to use ladders orscaffolding on the ice surface.
The unit may be suspended by means offour 5/8" diameter threaded rods.Preferably, however, the unit should bemounted on a proper platform withapproximately 3 feet clear behind the unitand with a walkway along each side tofacilitate service and maintenanceparticularly when it is installed in a locationthat requires a ladder. Platforms for eithercorner or wall mounting are available as anaccessory.
