What’s the idea?
• Want to do something good, but don’t want to do it alone
• PledgeBank solves the co-ordination problem
• Very simple principle to each pledge: “I’ll do it, but only if you’ll help”
What’s the story?
• Built by mySociety and volunteers
• Launched in 2005
• Translated into 14 languages by volunteers
• Over 8,000 pledges, from all around the world
• 145 879 people have signed a pledge
How does it work?
Seed funding for the UK’s Open Rights Group….
A new library in Bhubneshwar, India….
Tony Blair used it…
A new residents association…
Community-run café…
Many, many other causes
Donating blood, knitting hats for
charity, boycotting companies,
funding books, posing in charity
calendars, raising money for political
parties, running community
facilities…. And much much more
