Church of the Holy Faith Creed Triptych Chancel Windows
The lancet shaped windows above the Altar in the Church of the Holy Faith were designed and installed by Judson Studios of
Los Angeles, California in 1954 and are dedicated to the Glory of God in memory of his father, a missionary priest, by chancel
addition architect John Gaw Meem IV. The text is the Nicene Creed as published in the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.
I BELIEVE in one God the
Father Almighty, Maker of
heaven and earth, And of all
things visible and invisible:
The windows are generally designed
to be read like a book, left to right,
top to bottom with the appearance of
angels and archangels throughout.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God;
Begotten of his Father before all
worlds, God of God, Light of
Light, Very God of very God;
Begotten, not made; Being of
one substance with the Father;
By whom all things were made:
The Holy Trinity: Father, Son and
Holy Ghost are represented by the
triune figures at the peak of the
central window.
Who for us men and for our
salvation came down from
heaven, And was incarnate by
the Holy Ghost of the Virgin
Mary, And was made man:
“I am the Alpha and the Omega” are
represented by the Greek Letters
written near the peak of the outer
two windows.

And was crucified also for us
under Pontius Pilate; He
suffered and was buried:
And the third day he rose again
according to the Scriptures: And
ascended into heaven, And
sitteth on the right hand of the
Father:
The appearance of Christ’s torn
burial shroud is taken from The
Gospel according to Saint John,
Chapter 20 verses 5-7:
5 And he stooping down, and
looking in, saw the linen clothes
lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter
following him, and went into the
sepulchre, and seeth the linen
clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about
his head, not lying with the linen
clothes, but wrapped together in
a place by itself.
And he shall come again, with
glory, to judge both the quick
and the dead; Whose kingdom
shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost,
The Lord, and Giver of Life,
Who proceedeth from the
Father and the Son; Who with
the Father and the Son together
is worshipped and glorified;
Who spake by the Prophets:
Depictions of Pontius Pilate and
Christ’s burial cave are found within
the borders between the Crucifixion
and Holy Ghost window images.
Note the Chi Rho symbol on the
Altar face of the central bottom
image entitled by the designers as
“Worship.”
And I believe one Catholic and
Apostolic Church:
I acknowledge one Baptism for
the remission of sins:
The Four Major Old Testament
Prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel
and Daniel are shown at each corner
of the Baptismal image above.
And I look for the Resurrection
of the dead: And the Life of the
world to come. Amen.
The Nicene Creed is used for Holy
Eucharist services; the Apostles’
Creed is used for Daily Offices.
The 1979 Book of Common Prayer
included changes to the Nicene Creed
with the restoration of the word holy
prior to “Catholic and Apostolic
Church:”which was omitted from the
1928 BCP and the addition of a
corporate “We believe” version for
Rite II Sunday Eucharist.
