Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word
Luke narrates the episode of the adolescent Jesus staying
behind in the temple, causing his parents terrible anxiety
when they realize he’s missing. Parents can certainly appre-
ciate their distress, and then their relief. One of the possible
first readings features another incident in the temple. Han-
nah, thankful to the Lord for the birth of her son, Samuel,
after years of childlessness, dedicates him to the Lord’s ser-
vice. Samuel and Jesus both feel at home in the Lord’s
house. May we as well.
Question of the Week
What can I do for my parents/siblings/spouse/children to
make my family more holy, more like the ideal that God
calls us to?

1 Juan 3:1-2, 21-24; Lucas 2:41-52)
