December 10,2017

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Teresa Church,

This is the weekend when we proclaim our faith in the Son of God and our Christmas joy by lighting up the forest on the corner of Victory Boulevard and Slosson Avenue! Nearly ninety beautiful trees have been set up and illuminated by the men of the Holy Name Society. The names of donating families and their loved ones have been placed on plaques that everyone can read. Along with strings of lights and per-sonal decorations, these will stay until the end of the Christmas season—in some cases, helping people to heal from losses and to be stronger in their hope of a heavenly reunion. We hope that for them and for all who pass by—or sit and wait for the light to change—these trees will lift up their spirits and their souls.

Another lift to your heart, and a place to find Christmas spirit, is inside our gym. On Saturday until 7pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 3pm, please come over and join us for our school’s great annual SAINT TERESA CHRISTMAS FAIR. Find presents, take chances, enjoy food, socialize and support the fund-raising efforts of the parents who are working hard to create a great experience for all their guests.

I thank all of them. I also thank the Holy Name men because money raised by their project is being returned to the parish in a beautiful way this Christmas. A new Nativity scene with large handsome figures will appear outside the church this week. They will replace weather-beaten relics from past decades with inspiring new images of the Holy Family, other people, and animals. And, they have also purchased a new Nativity scene that will be placed near the altar inside Saint Nicholas Chapel to inspire all who see to pray.

Today I have two gifts to offer you. This Sunday, as announced, we have beautiful scenic religious calendars that you are welcome to take home. These have awesome photos of our beautiful country with inspiring Scripture verses, spaces for notes, etc. Again we thank the staff at Casey Funeral Home. And next Sunday, please take home a copy of a very interesting Christmas book by popular spiritual writer Scott Hahn. It is called JOY TO THE WORLD: How Christ’s Coming Changed Everything (And Still Does). I got us a great deal—500 copies for a dollar apiece. Read this present to see why Christmas is so joyful.

Finally, I have an interesting bus trip to announce today, which would make a great Christmas gift. You can give this to yourself or to a friend. But you could also let others give it to you - especially if they excuse themselves by saying that they don't know what you like, or claim that you don't need anything!

This bus trip is being sponsored by our St. Teresa Golden Age members who meet in Conran Hall for friendship, conversation and games every Monday from 12 to 2:30 when our school is in session—except tomorrow, when they are going out to lunch. But you don’t have to be a Golden Ager to go on trips with us.

Members recently had a successful bus trip to a casino, and now they are making reservations to go see a new show at the 2,000-seat Sight and Sound Theatre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Sight and Sound Theatre has been a popular destination for Bible-themed multi-media performances for decades. Now for the first time of bringing the Bible to life on stage in epic scale, with large casts, huge screens, and live ani-mals, the Sight and Sound producers are going to tell the life story of Jesus Christ.

Golden Age President Lorraine Sellers has snapped up fifty-six tickets for "JESUS" for Wednesday, May 16. The price for the performance, comfortable bus transportation, and a delicious smorgasbord lunch, is $125. A $50 deposit is needed now when you reserve your seat, with full payment by March 30. Call Lorraine at 718 477 0083, see her at a Golden Age meeting, or email her at: [email protected].

One week of Advent is gone, with just two to go before we reach the Fourth Sunday/Christmas Eve. May your days be productive, your thoughts charitable, and your focus on the real reason for this season: Jesus the Son of God. Into our hearts and our homes, we welcome Him and say: COME, LORD JESUS!

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK That our nation may be united under God to seek liberty and justice for all, without preju-dice or jealousy, let us pray to the Lord…

Travelling for the holidays? READ OUR SUNDAY BULLETIN ONLINE

You can read all our recent parish bulletins at: saintteresasi.org.

You can also access our parish calendar and view our activities.

The winner of our November 50/50 Drawing was: Mr. and Mrs. Rich Newman. The prize was $313. If you would like to participate in this monthly activity that benefits our parish and makes people happy,

look for the 50/50 envelopes in the vestibule. The next drawing will be at the end of December.

We have a nice tradition of people helping to pay for the Christmas Flowers that will decorate our church

and chapel. Christmas Flower Memorial Envelopes are available now. The suggested flower offering is $20 and donors’ names will be displayed on Christmas on a poster at the entrances in both church and chapel. To have the list made on time, we need to receive your

name and offering by Monday morning, December 18.

OPPORTUNITY FOR RECONCILIATION WITH GOD AND YOURSELF

Only a fool thinks that he or she is perfect. Only a stubborn fool ignores the signs of

unhappiness and resentment that build up when people never say that they are sorry. Turn this Advent of hope into a Christmas

of peace and joy by asking forgiveness from God for your sins.

ST. TERESA SCHOOL REGISTRATION

NEW STUDENTS / NEXT YEAR

Registration for new students has opened for the 2018-2019 school year. If you intend to register your child at St. Teresa School for Kindergarten or older grades, or if you know anyone who is inter-ested in our school, please know that applications can be accessed at the following link: https://stteresaschoolsi.org/apply-online/. If you have any questions, you can contact the school office Mon-day-Friday 8:00am-3:00pm. We can also be reached by email at [email protected]. As Principal Mrs. Anna Simione teaches: Saint Teresa School is a community of faith, knowledge, and service.

GRANT WRITER NEEDED

Everybody has a talent or a skill that other people need. We are hoping that our parish might have a member who knows how to be an effective grant writer, and who could volunteer to help us apply for funds to help our parish's ministries. If you would like to explore this, please give Monsignor a call at the rectory: 718 442 5412 or mention this when you see him at Mass.
