We too are being asked today to decide whom we will serve. Jesus’ s words are everlasting life. To leave Jesus is in many senses to leave life itself. Though the mystery of the Eucharist we have been promised eternal life. He has told us that unless we eat His flesh and drink His blood we will have no life in us. St Vincent de Paul Society - Turning concern into action

SVP Awareness Month 25/26 August. The St Vincent de Paul Society: An Introduction

“Charity is certainly greater than any rule. Moreover, all rules must lead to charity.”

St Vincent de PaulFounded in 1833 by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, The St Vincent de Paul Society is a Christ-centred organisation made up of almost 10,000 volunteers across England and Wales. While every Conference is

unique, our mission is the same; to seek and find those in need, to help them in the spirit of justice and to tackle the causes of poverty where we can.

With Christian values at our core, staff and Members of the St Vincent de Paul Society operate on the ground in a variety of different ways including visiting and befriending the lonely, assisting in our shops and volunteering in one of our many community support projects. We also support vital work overseas.

If you can help in any way please call David Whines on 01702 205269. This SVP is based at Our Lady of Ransom, Rayleigh.

To make you smile A Sunday school teacher decided to have her young class memorise one of the most important passages in the Bible - Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the verse. Little Bobby was excited about the task, but he just couldn’t remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line. On the day that the children were scheduled to recite P s a l m 2 3 i n f r o n t o f t h e congregat ion, Bobby was so nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, “The Lord is my shepherd…and thats all I need to know!”
