2/First Sunday of Lent (Continued on page 3)
Second Sunday of Lent w March 8th, 2020Gen 12:1-4a w 2 Timothy 1:8b-10 w Matthew 17:1-9
Dear fellow Parishioners,During our annual all-day meeting this January, we took
some time to pray about and discuss our Parish Mission State-ment. We believe that it still serves to inspire and energize our parish. We suggested just one minor change: to capitalize all of the word ‘ALL’. It now reads:
As a Jesuit parish community, animated by the spirit of St. Ignatius, we welcome ALL to share in the joy of the Gospel and to come to "know, love and serve" God and one another.
We then turned to an exercise to consider what we think is most valued by our parish community. Five values emerged.
●Nourishing Liturgy – We aspire to provide forms of worship, through word, music and sacraments, that feed the heart, mind, body, and soul.
●Inclusive Community – We strive to build a community of faith that is welcoming to ALL.
●Ignatian Spirituality – As a Jesuit Catholic parish, we are guided by the prac-tices of the Society of Jesus, in which we seek “God in all things.”
●Education – We facilitate the formation of our people’s faith through their lifespan.
●Social Justice – We act in the world as people with and for others by promoting human dignity, seeking to right injustices, and protecting our shared home.
Based on our parish’s mission statement and these values, we, as a parishioner-driven parish, want to invite you to enter, during this Lenten Season, into a prayerful dis-cernment to help envision our future. Such input is critical as we consider how we prioritize our precious energy and resources.
As part of this prayerful discernment, we would like to en-vision together with you how we might better integrate the four Jesuit Universal Apostolic Preferences into the life of our Parish. These are: Discernment and the Spiritual Exercises; Walking with the Excluded; Journeying with Youth; Caring for Our Common Home. Some questions we would like you to consider are:
•How might we integrate our mission to be an inclusive community with this preference to walk with the excluded? •How might we better enliven our youth’s participation in the parish? •How might we be better stewards of our common home beginning with our parish home? •How might we effectively incorporate Discernment and the Spiritual Exercises into decisions on other matters of importance to all of us as members of this wonderful, faith-filled community of believers?

We look forward to hearing from you as we continue to discern our way forward.
Migration Facts:•Cities with higher shares of migrants are often voted as the most desirable places to be. •Had immigration to the United Kingdom and Germany ceased in 1990, both countries’ real GDP in 2014 would have been lower by $227.44 billion and $201.45 billion respectively.•While immigrants represented only 13% of the population in the US, they comprise nearly 30% of all entrepreneurs.

"The Council of the Synod wishes to recall that the Church, while deploring the reasons for such a massive movement of people, is called to offer comfort, consolation and welcome to all those who are suffering in one way or another. She identi-fies with the poor, the little and the foreigner, considering part of her prophetic mission the commitment to raise her voice
against injustice, exploitation and suffering."15th Ordinary Council of the General Secretariat of the

CRS Rice Bowl - Our Journey BeginsMaria Ana's family’s home in Honduras was destroyed in a recent accident. Her family is living in a temporary space—a small wooden hut—until they can get it fixed. Everyone sleeps on the floor and during the rainy season the roof often leaks. Maria Ana works hard in school—and CRS provides school lunches to ensure she can focus on her studies and not on her hunger.
Trinh shows her family love by doing chores around the house and helps her little sister, Trang, with schoolwork. Often, Trinh will ride her bike to get medicine for her parents when they are sick. Trinh’s house is near a river and when storms pass through, the home often fills with water. In Vietnam, CRS is working with students like Trinh, helping them to learn ways to protect their home, food and family from destructive storms.
In Kenya, Yvone's family has a hut where the family eats and sleeps, a stable for the animals and a separate kitchen hut. Each morning she washes dishes, sweeps the house, prepares lunch for the younger children and washes their school uniforms. Yvone’s family life has changed for the better thanks to a CRS program that teaches families about healthy food. During the 40 days of Lent, as you get to know Maria Ana, Trinh and Yvone,
remember them in your daily experience of prayers, fasting and almsgiving.
