As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother
Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus
said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." -

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
Flu Season We’ve all been reading about the seriousness of the
current flu season, perhaps, like me, you’ve fallen victim to
the current outbreak. Yes, I did get the flu shot this year
also but it didn’t help last weekend.
A number of parishes are adjusting their liturgy practices
to avoid spreading the flu among the parishioners. This is
probably a very good idea!
I’d like to suggest the following for anyone worried about
catching—or spreading—the flu. While attending Mass we
can avoid direct contact with others by a simple nod of the
head and a smile instead of shaking hands during the
“Kiss of Peace.”
A simple wipe of the cup with the purificator by the
Eucharistic Minister does little to purify the rim of the cup.
If you are worried about receiving from the cup it is
perfectly allowable to receive the host only for
communion.
I am not mandating these procedures for
everyone. They are suggestions for those worried about
catching the flu. If you believe you are coming down with
the flu please stay home and take care of yourself. ****************************************************
Reflection For the Week
In today’s Gospel, Jesus begins calling and collecting his
disciples. Amazingly, Andrew, Peter, James and John, simple
fishermen, leave their jobs and much of their family life
and simply follow him.
Do I have that degree of faith and trust to do the same?

Valentine’s CTK is here! In the cold of winter, nothing
warms the heart more than the graciousness of a volunteer.
Our valentine tradition at CTK has grown by leaps and
bounds, and your response has been wonderful. What is it?
It’s a connection between our families at home with our
parish family who are homebound, in hospitals and in care
facilities. Our valentines enable us to shower our love, care
and prayers, and a cheery “hello” to brighten someone’s
day—someone who might not receive a valentine otherwise.
They are so appreciated by their recipients.
Here’s how it works:
1. Pick up a “starter” kit at the Family Life table in the
Gathering Space. It contains some basic materials to get
you started. Feel free to embellish valentines with things
you have at home - stickers, foamies, glitter, ribbon,
lace, etc. Be creative and have fun. This is a great family
activity for everyone. Please attach the enclosed parish
“God bless you” i.d. on the back of each valentine, and if
you wish, sign your first name only. This was a request
from recipients who want to remember you in their
prayers.
2. Bring your valentines to the big Valentine Box in the
Gathering Space no later than Feb. 11.
3. The Visitation Ministry will pick up and deliver your
valentines.

Faith Formation/Youth Ministry
Program— Please check out our Faith Formation
website by going to our parish website:
ctkparishny.org, Faith Formation and then
click on the Website. New updates will be
coming for Lent!
MORE THAN 25 YEARS AGO, the Souper Bowl of Caring began
with a simple prayer from a single youth group: “Lord, even as
we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of
those without a bowl of soup to eat.” Since that day, more than
$125 million has been raised for local charities across the country
through Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful
movement that is transforming the time around the Big Game into
the nation’s largest celebration of giving and serving. Our Middle
School youth have participated in the Souper Bowl for the past 11
years and will be accepting monetary donations after all Masses
on Feb. 3rd-4th. Our goal is to raise $2000 for the Guilderland
Food Pantry who is a tremendous help for local families. Please
help us make this a reality!

Coffee & Conversation Please join us on the following Thursdays for Coffee &
Conversation, our Lenten Series: February 8th & 15th and
March 8th & 15th. We will view Bishop Barron’s DVD
series on “David, The King”. Each evening starts at 7:00pm
and meets in the Knight’s Chapel.
“King David causes us to look back toward Adam’s
kingship and forward toward Christ the King, seeing Christ
as the fulfillment of the Davidic line and the realization of
the Kingdom of God on earth. In David the King, Bishop
Barron helps us to understand this pivotal figure in light of
the first king and the King of Kings.”

Calling All Couples— Are you engaged, thinking about it,
newly married, married for a long time or anything in
between? Christ the King Adult Faith Formation has an
opportunity for you!! On May 5, 2018, Dynamic Catholic
will present “Passion and Purpose for Marriage” with Alan
Hunt in Westford, MA. While exploring the key ingredients
for a happy marriage, we will find out the most important
word in marriage (hint—it’s not love) and five things men
and women need to know about the opposite sex. If we have
enough interest, we will hire a bus. The cost will be
approximately $75 per person, which includes transportation
and the event. All those interested, please contact Maureen
McAuliffe at 518-869-0454 or email
[email protected] by March 1st.
