Chu ju's House is about a teenage girl, Chu Ju, who runs away from home after her mom gives birth to a baby girl. During this time period in China, each family is allowed only 2 children, but they need a boy to bring honor to her family. To solve this problem, Chu Ju decides to run away. She keeps running and eventually comes across a boat. She hides under a net, and eventually gets found by the owners of the boat. She stays and works with them, untill they found out that she ran away from home.   She runs away from them because they were going to take her back to her house.  She ends up at a silk farm, where the two people who own it are evil. The head of the harvesting leaves part beats all the young girls wwho work there, and the head of thesilkworms who eat the leaves is very strict and yells at all of them.  She runs away after sending a letter to the head of the orphanage that supplies the young female workers that the living conditions were horrible, and that the bosses were too strict.  She runs to a house with an elderly woman named Ha Na and her son, Quan,  who take her in as a daughter. Then Quan leaves to the city Shaing Hi, and gets arrested. What will become of Chu Ju and Ha Na? Read the book to find out.
