Kingdom of Quadrilaterals
Instructions
i
This book is designed for 6th grade
level
students. The contents of this book
cover the standard:
MA.G.3.1 2000 Describe, classify,
and understand relationships
among the
quadrilaterals square, rectangle,
rhombus, parallelogram, trapezoid,
and kite.
Introduction
ii
In a faraway land there exists a
kingdom of quadrilaterals.
You are about to
embark on a journey through this
mathematical kingdom. King
Square, the leader of the
kingdom, will help you as you
travel. Do you have what it takes to
complete the journey?
Read on and find out.
King Square1
4
Hello! I am King Square. I am so
happy you decided to visit
my kingdom.
Here in quadrilateral kingdom
all of the residents are
quadrilaterals. That means that they
all have four sides,
four angles, and four vertices also
called corners. This is very important
to remember as you complete your
quest.
6
In the kingdom, it is “National
Quadrilateral Day”, and every
shape is dancing and celebrating
their four straight sides and four
angles.
7
Now for your task: you have a very
important job. There has been a
terrible tragedy in the kingdom.
After the big National
Quadrilateral Day celebration
many families were mixed
together and some members were
separated from their families.
I need your help to help the missing
shapes reunite with their families.
Do you think you can do it?
The Parallelogram2
8
9
The first step you must do is learn
about parallelograms. Many of the
quadrilaterals here in my
kingdom are parallelograms. In a
parallelogram
the opposite sides are the same
length. The opposite angles are the
same measure of degrees.
Also the opposite sides are parallel
which means they
will never touch each other.
10
Notice in this image how
parallelogram is one of the two
main groups of quadrilaterals.
As you continue
to journey through the kingdom
it is important to remember
that many of those families are
from the parallelogram so you
can accurately find their
missing family member.
11
12
To help you understand the
parallelogram’s properties click on the
link below. It will show you a
parallelogram. You can move any
corners on the parallelogram
and notice how the opposite sides
are always parallel and how the
angles change
to match the opposite angles.

The RhombusFamily
3
13
Family Members:
Mr. Rhombus
Mrs. Rhombus
Johnny Rhombus
14
The first family in need is the
Rhombus family. Little Johnny
Rhombus has been separated from
his mom and dad.
Help Mr. and Mrs. Rhombus
reconnect with their Johnny.
15
The Rhombus Family have specific
properties that all their family
members have. Look at the diagram on
the following page.
The picture shows what the
Rhombus Family looks like so you
can find Little Johnny.
16
A rhombus has all sides of equal
length. Also opposite sides are
parallel and opposite angles are
equal. The pictures below shown the
parallel sides and equal angles.
17
Click on the link below. It will take you
to a game where you must guide the
Rhombus bird through the Tutorial
and Level 1. Little Johnny is riding on
the bird and after you complete
Level 1 Johnny will be reunited
with his family!
*It is important that you only play
through Level 1 because there are
other families in need!

The RectangleFamily
4
18
Family Members:
Mr. Rectangle
Mrs. Rectangle
Greg Rectangle
Georgina Rectangle
19
The Rectangle family is all very
worried about their missing family
member, Georgina. To help you
find Georgina watch this video and
learn about the properties of the
rectangle family.
Properties of Rectangles
20
The Rectangle family can see
Georgina on the other side of the
forest. Georgina is the red dot and
her family is waiting for her at the
bright star. Click on the link below
to help Georgina navigate through
the maze paths to her family.

The TrapezoidFamily
5
21
Family Members:
Mr. Trapezoid
Mrs. Trapezoid
22
A trapezoid has straight sides and has
a pair of opposite sides that are
parallel. The sides that are parallel are
called bases. The other sides are legs
(which may or may not be parallel).
23
Mr. and Mrs. Trapezoid have been
separated! Click on the link below
and complete the matching game to
help find Mr. Trapezoid.
In this game you must match the
picture with the word of the shape.

Thank you so much for putting
our kingdom back together! All
the families are back together
and happy again.
