Everyone loves Tank, the gentle giant. A Mastiff-Rottweiler mix, Tank has the loyaltyof a Rottweiler and the sweet, calm nature of a Mastiff. Tank came to our House of Hopewhen his owner could not afford the surgery needed by Tank and, sadly, had to surrender hbeloved pet. The adult Tank had developed a life-threatening perineal hernia.
A perineal hernia occurs when the pelvic muscles become too weak to supportinternal organs, such as the small intestines, bladder, or rectum. It is a painful condition, marked by swelling of the perineal area, protrusion, and an inability to control the bowels.
While the causes of perineal hernias are not completely understood, the condition ismost common in male dogs, and many believe that failing to neuter your dog may Increasehis risk of developing a hernia.
Successful treatment of a perineal hernia requires surgery and post-op medications.Unfortunately, the surgery required by Tank is quite costly and normally beyond theresources of CHS. However, thanks to the generosity of area veterinarians, Tank receivedall the care needed to diagnose and treat his condition. As you read this, Tank isrecoverinfrom the successful removal of the hernia. CHS expresses its deepest gratitude to the vetswho provided for Tanks care prior to, during, and after his surgery. If you or someone you know can give Tank a good home, please call CHS.
Meet Tank..

Your pet will live a longer, healthier life.Spaying female pets can help preventuterine infections and certain cancers.
Neutering male pets may prevent healthproblems such as testicular cancer andhernias.
It will improve your pets behavior.Femaleswont go into heat. Maleroaming behaviorsdecrease.
It is cost-effective. Responsibly caring fora new litter takes time and money. It is good for the community. Homeless
animalsare everywhere. Stray animalsprey on wildlife, are victims ofcaraccidents, and when wild, canbedangerous to humans and other animals.
It is the goal of CHS to spay/neuter all its shelteranimals prior to adoption. To date, this year wehave spayed/neutered 19 dogs and 16 cats.Eight vouchers, which assist in defraying thecostof these procedures, have been provided to low-income families. Families adopting pets from theshelter must agree to have them spayed orneutered, if CHS has not yet been able to do so.
If your pet is not spayed/neutered,schedule an appointment todaywith your pets vet!!
