THE BLESSING OF THE CHRISTMAS CRÈCHE

Celebrant: The glory of the Lord has been revealed:

People: And all flesh shall see the salvation of our God.

The Blessing

Almighty and everlasting God, who has on this night caused your only-

begotten Son to be born of the Blessed Virgin Mary for our salvation:

We ask you to bless and hallow this Manger. Grant, to all who come to

this crib, grace to ponder and adore the mystery of his holy

Incarnation, that we may sing with the angels your glorious praises in

heaven: where you live and reign, world without end. Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

Opening Acclamation

Celebrant: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

People: And blessed be God’s kingdom, now and forever.

Amen.

The Christmas Collect

O God, you have caused this holy night to shine with the brightness

of the true Light: Grant that we, who have known the mystery of that

Light on earth, may also enjoy him perfectly in heaven; where with you

and the Holy Spirit he lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting.

Amen.

proclaim the good news of his salvation from day to day.

REFRAIN

3 Declare his glory among the nations*

and his wonders among all peoples.

4 For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised;*

he is more to be feared than all gods.

REFRAIN

11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;

let the sea thunder and all that is in it;*

let the field be joyful and all that is therein.

12 Then shall all the trees of the wood shout for joy

before the Lord when he comes,*

when he comes to judge the earth.

Prayers of the People

As Christmas fills the earth with the good news of the Word

made flesh, let our prayer embrace the needs of all God’s children.

For the church’s worldwide ministry of compassion, that by these works of

charity we may serve the God incarnate among us.

Lord of Love, Hear our prayer.

For international efforts toward mutual understanding, that all nations may

gladly welcome messengers who announce peace.

Lord of Love, Hear our prayer.

For the homeless and the unemployed, for the lonely and bereaved, for all

who find the winter season difficult or the holidays a burden, that we may

be for them the instruments of Christ’s light and life.

Lord of Love, Hear our prayer.

For families reunited by the holidays, for homes gladdened by children, and

for hearts made joyful by friendship, that all may bless the God who

comforts and sustains us with these gifts.

Lord of Love, Hear our prayer.

For all of us, friends and strangers, one community gathered here, that we

may come to see and cherish each other in the light of Christ.

Lord of Love, Hear our prayer.

For our beloved departed (especially N.), that they may see Christ now in

the fullness of the God’s glory.

Lord of Love, Hear our prayer.

Let us pray for our own needs and those of others.

A concluding collect will be added by the Celebrant.

Greeting of Peace

CHRISTMAS

Gift-giving God,

of angels and stars,

magi and shepherds,

promise and hope,

journeys and longings;

God who calls and sends,

blesses and guards,

hides and reveals,

asks and waits,

ancient love,

that is always new;

God of Christmas,

God of our hearts;

may we bear the Christ

to all who need him,

and allow his birth

in us again.

Amen.
