Much like the public library of today, Fab Hubs will be located in neighborhoods. They become a convenient place for community residents to come together and build the products they need.
Mass manufacturing is focused on designing products for the masses. Individual manufacturing involves people designing and fabricating their own items that fit their personal needs.
How might we make individual manufacturing accessible to communities?

The Fabricator is anyone in the community that has a desire to create their own products. Young, old, male, female, any occupation, creating any product.
The Internet of Everything will be integrated into the space, bridging the learning gap for inexperienced fabricators.
Through the use of the IoE control devices, the fabricator is able to streamline their process. IoE gives suggestions and tips to better develop the product the fabricator is creating.

The spatial flow starts with entering into the design and
community space. The product fabrication area is separated
below with each machine room emphasized. This can be seen
in both plan and section.

The buildings next to the lot are cut into the steep hill. The new structure will follow this arrangement, allowing for entry at the top level from McMicken Avenue and exit from the lower level. The slope reveals the lower level to the busy Central Parkway side.

The top level is where the fabricator uses the IoE
technology to create their design. Collaboration and
community play important roles in this space.
The bottom level houses the materials and the machines.
Here the fabricator begins the physical making process.

0 2Five staircases around
campus were selected to analyze and diagram. The
diagrams read vertically and include a site plan, elevation, plan, section, and circulation studies. Focusing on the Rec
Center stair, I then created an emblematic drawing based on
the stair and the experience of turning and twisting
throughout the space.

The stair on the outside of the building leads to the long hallway shown left. The form continues the twisting lines and forms introduced at the stair and is emphasized through the repetition of the wall structure and puncture of light throughout the space.

Location: Pogue’s GarageDowntown Cincinnati
Objective: Integrate a pool and a theatre into the space to serve
a need in the community.
The wrapper visually ties together the buildings and
creates a clear path of circulation. The columns in the garage were extended to
support this structure.
The pool and theatre exist on opposite ends of the garage,
giving relief to the programs and the crowds they attract.

This is a project I got to work on during my first and second
semesters of co-op at Champlin Architecture. These are
plans done in AutoCAD of the proposed flooring materials for
the project.

The plans were then taken into Photoshop to be rendered. Color and pattern studies were done for the children’s play area. The entrances of the room were chosen to be highlighted in the design. This was done with a prominent blue curve, as well as the middle of the room highlighted with a solid bold color.

Christine Ruhe Make Your Mark Mural Entry
I entered this design in the Make Your Mark mural contest that was held at the University
of Cincinnati. The stair area that was selected is located on
the north edge of campus.

I wanted to make this design big and bold to reflect the spirit of campus. The eyes depict an intimidating bearcat ready to tear out of the matrix on the right.
