This will be my last news article. One of the things I’ve learned over the last four years doing interim ministry is that I’m either coming to a new congre-gation or going to another. And you may have al-ready guessed it, I sometimes don’t know if I am coming or going. That being said, I want to thank the members of Christ Lutheran for your partner-ship in our shared ministry over the nine months that I have been with you. A pastor is only as good as is the cooperation and partnership between the pastor and members of a congregation. I think this is something every pastor and every congregation needs to remember.

Christ Lutheran is beginning a new journey, with a new pastor in July. What that will look like and what that will be is still unknown and unwritten. Yet one thing is certain, you have elected very dedicated and gifted leaders. This is essential for a thriving and a dynamic congregation. Your leaders are the back-bone of this faith community that moves the vision of the congregation forward. In the congregation’s de-sire to restructure and redefine the pastoral leader-ship position, this an essential component of a suc-cessful ministry, especially in a congregation this size. One pastor will not be able to cover all the bases all the time, or do all of the ministry all of the time. Thus, your cooperation and partnership is im-portant. I have said this before and I will say it again, the seven last words of any church is, “We’ve never done it that way before!” Those seven last words of the church need to be erased from use at Christ Lu-theran if vision for the congregation is to be take root and bloom.

Thank you again for allowing Karen and I to live and work among you and for me to be your interim over these nine months. I have enjoyed being with you and have made many good memories which I will take into my next call. God bless you and your King-dom work.

Pastor Grant Fischer

A preacher died, and when he got to heaven, he saw a New York cab driver who had more riches than he did. He complained to an angel, “I don’t get it. I devoted my whole life to my congregation.”

The angel said, “We reward results. Did your con-gregation always pay attention when you gave a ser-mon?”

The preacher said, “Once in a while, someone fell asleep.”

The angel said, “Right. And when people rode in this guy’s taxi, they not only stayed awake, but they usu-ally prayed!”

6

The meeting was called to order by President Moline. Those in attendance were: Laurel Nel-son, Theresa Nysetvold, Tim Lange, Jessica Doeden, Pastor Grant, Jerry Moline, Mary Ever-son, Matt Ackerman, Travis Stoel, Kathy Behrends, Jan Cu-perus and Dr. Plotz. Pastor Grant led us with devo-

tions. The agenda was accepted as pre-sented with one addition. M/S/P Travis/Laurel The secretary’s reports for the April 17 council meeting and the April 27 and 28 special Congregational meeting were presented. M/S/P to accept as presented. Theresa/Travis The April Treasurer’s report was reviewed. It was noted that the balance for April is listed as $6,726.16. The earlier $4,000 bor-rowed from the dedicated savings account is not factored into this, resulting in an actual balance of $2,726.16. A motion was made to approve the report for audit. M/S/P Travis/Mary

The Pastors report contained infor-mation regarding needed parson-age updates. Pastor Grant listed June 16th as his last Sunday for service. Other items listed include his contract stipulations, work which needs to be attended to and the requirements needed to meet voting membership requirements. Old Business: David Clarke has been appointed

to the Memorial Committee for a term of 4 years.

A letter from S.L.M. was reviewed, which requested additional do-nations. This was given to Mis-sion Outreach for their project.

New Business: New Members to transfer in and

out request were viewed. A mo-tion was made to approve this. M/S/P Mary/Jessica.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 12, 2019, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Pastor Degner will begin serving our congregation on July 1, 2019, with plans of arriving at the parsonage one week earlier. President Moline reported that we will be responsible for mov-ing expenses. Jerry has ob-

Parsonage issues are described under the Board Reports

A farewell reception for Pastor Grant will be held after service on June 16th.

A welcome reception for Pastor Ben will be held after his Instal-lation Service. Tentatively scheduled for July 7th.

Dr. Poltz of the Memorial Commit-tee met with the board stating that he has received a request from the Suedbeck family to replace the pew cushions. They have committed to a monetary donation towards this project. A bid was received from Waggoner, Inc. for a cost of up to $16,475 to replace the pew cushions. A suggestion was made to develop an “Adopt a pew” fundraiser to cover this expense. Jerry and Travis will work on the development of this project.

Jan Cuperus met with the board to discuss Communion practices. There have been requests made to serve gluten free bread at communion services. It was suggested to purchase gluten free wafers/crackers with the announcement made during service that they will be placed in a basket in the front pews for

those choosing this option. Regarding the ballots used at the

congregational meeting vote, a motion was made for the Presi-dent to destroy these by shred-ding. M/S/P Travis/Tim

Volunteers Wanted to help make quilts

All quilts made are donated to various mission projects.

The quilters generally meet the 4th Monday and Tuesday of each month from

1:00 until about 3:30. There’s always a time of coffee, treats

and fellowship.

The only experience needed is the ability to tie a knot!

Slayton Rehabilitation Closing

Slayton Rehabilitation has received word that they will be closing on July 19. They are currently in the process of relocating their residents. What can you do? One thing that everyone everywhere should do is to write to our congress/senate about the funding for our elderly especially in rural communities. There will be more clo-sures of this type and more people to place with even less beds for them to go to. This is becoming a huge concern. Here are the addresses: Representative Joe Schomacker, 209 State Office Building, St Paul, MN 55155, [email protected]; Senator Bill Weber, 95 University Ave W, Minnesota Senate Bldg, Rm 2109, St Paul, MN 55155, sen.bill.weber @senate.mn. Not sure what to write? Contact the church office for ideas.

Camperships Available

Again this year, the Endowment & Fellowship & Service Committees will be offering Camperships for Christ Lu-theran members that attend Shetek Lutheran Ministries. Camperships are $200 for weeklong or specialty camps and $50 for mini-camps. Forms are on the church website under Youth/Bible Camp or on the Shetek Lutheran Minis-tries bulletin board at church across from the Chapel Lounge.

Is this your child’s first time to summer camp? The Me-morial Committee has scholarships available for first time campers from Christ Lutheran who attend a program at Shetek Lutheran Ministries. These scholarships are in addi-tion to the scholarships given by the Endowment and Fel-lowship and Service Committees. For a first time camper to attend a week of camp, the Memorial Committee will pro-vide an additional $100 scholarship and for a mini-week at camp, an additional $40 scholarship. These scholarships are provided by the Grieme family in memory of Shar and we are grateful for their gift.

Radio Broadcast Ministry

June 16, 23 and 30 are still available. Checks ($65) can be made out to Christ Lutheran with “Radio Broadcast” in the memo or you can pay online by visiting our website.

Father's Day Prayer Joanna Fuchs

Lord, please bless our fathers,

these men who mean so much to us, who are greatly responsible

for who we are and who we are becoming. Bless them for having the courage

to do what's necessary to keep us out of trouble, for making us do the right thing,

for helping us build our character, even when it makes us angry;

and bless them for pushing us to do our best, even when they just want to love us.

Bless our fathers for being our protectors, for leading us through stormy times to safety,

for making us believe that everything will be all right and for making it so.

Bless our fathers for quietly making a living to provide for those they love most, for giving us food, clothing, shelter

and the other material things that really matter, for unselfishly investing time and money in us

that they could have spent on themselves. Bless our fathers, Lord,

for saving some energy for fun, for leading us on adventures

to explore the outer reaches of ourselves, for making us laugh,

for being our playmates and our friends. Bless them for being our secure foundation, our rock, for holding on tight to us...until it's time to let us go.

Lord, bless these men we look up to, our role models, our heroes,

our fathers. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
