July 2011
From Our Spiritual Leader,
Glennie Smith Dear Spiritual Family:
I trust you all had a wonderful 4th of July
celebration. The weather was perfect
for fireworks, ballgames, picnics, and fun
with family and friends.
You will notice several improvements to
our spiritual home including a new stove
in the kitchen, freshly painted halls in the
front foyer, and a beautiful new screen
and projector media system. We are so very blessed to be
growing in abundance with such a beautiful sanctuary to come
together in community.
This month we are revisiting Unity's Five Principles. These
principles suggest answers to the great questions of existence
that humans have been asking since the beginning of self-
awareness. They are tools to help us consider--what God is, what
human beings are, how the two are connected, how prayer
works, and how we are expected to live our lives. Come join us
on Sunday morning as we contemplate these questions. We
enjoy your company.
Wherever you are on your spiritual journey you are always
welcome here at Unity of Rockford.
Namaste, Glennie
Update on Screen & Projector
Lights…camera…screen...action! A HUGE
thanks to Bill Edmundson for all his work on the
projector & screen project. From crawling in the
attic to balancing on ladders to donating his
time & resources, he's done it all! The screen
is installed, the projector is warming up, the
project is close to being done. Final
electrical work is being completed so
the system can be put to use every
Sunday. (Thanks to Bill's helper elves, too!)
Abundance
“Divine Love through me, blesses
and multiplies all that I am, all
that I have, all that I give, and all
that I receive.”

The Fifteen Minute Forgiveness Treatment By Hypatia Hasbrouck
Hypatia Hasbrouck was a Unity minister and served as dean of what is now Unity Institute® & Seminary.
This article was originally published in the Handbook of Positive Prayer. You can find this article at
http://www.unity.org/homepageArchive/features/fifteenMinuteForgivenessTreatment.html
The negative thoughts and feelings associated with the mental state of unforgiveness have deleterious
effects upon our physical bodies. But we are not always aware that we are harboring unforgiving
thoughts and feelings because many of them may be buried in the subconscious memory bank… We
can use a positive prayer technique that combines visualization of light in an affected body area with
release of unforgiving thoughts and feelings.
Assume a comfortable, relaxed position, either sitting or lying down.
Affirm three times, aloud or silently, resting quietly a few moments between declarations: God is
the life within me.
Affirm three times, aloud or silently, resting quietly a few moments between declarations: I now
release every recognized or unrecognized feeling of fear, resentment, condemnation, envy,
distrust, hate, or any other negative feeling or thought about myself or others or anything I or they
may have said, thought or done. I forgive myself and others for everything, and I love and bless
myself and everyone else.
Affirm three times, aloud or silently, resting quietly a few moments between declarations: Divine
love now dissolves and dissipates every wrong condition in my mind, body and relationships.
Now visualize in detail and in color the most beautiful, peaceful scene you can. Bring all your
senses to play and let the feeling of complete oneness with God and the universe fill your being.
Feel yourself melting into the scene.
Gradually let the feeling become light that is going through your circulatory and nervous systems.
See the light flowing into every dark corner. Use white light or a specific color, or simply allow the
light to be the color determined by your subconscious mind.
If you know the specific body area that needs healing, gradually concentrate the light there and
let it remain as long as required
Gradually withdraw attention from the light as you affirm three times, aloud or silently, resting
quietly a few moments between declarations: God is life. I am one with God. I am one with life.
Thank You, God, for perfect life. In the name and through the power of Jesus Christ, the Great
Physician. After the last declaration, say Amen.
Rest quietly and without conscious thought for at least a minute.

Spiritual Leader's Report – Glennie Smith
Glennie reported she is going to Unity Village for classes in October and not August as previously planned. Glennie will be having
surgery on her hand and will not be available two Sundays in June. Marge Orchard will be the guest speaker on June 19 th and Glennie
will be looking for a speaker for June 26th.
Committee Reports Building and Grounds
Jackie will contact the City of Rockford for an update on their plans to correct the erosion problem in our back yards and will make a
report at the next board meeting. A discussion was held about our lawn care. It was decided to have our lawn mowing and weed control
contract rebid to make sure we aren’t wasting any money. One of the ceiling fans in the sanctuary is not working, Steve and Craig will
see about getting it repaired. The basement air conditioner is not working. So far the basement is comfortable so we will look into
repairs if it becomes a problem in the future.
Projector and Screen-Bill Edmundson. Bill has found a new provider for the equipment for our Projector/Screen project. Bill gave a
complete description of the equipment and how it will be installed. Bill has offered to do the installation at no cost. The Projector fund
has over $4000 . Glennie made a motion to authorize Bill to spend up to $3500 to purchase the equipment, 2nd Craig, Unanimous.
Women of Unity –Glennie Smith. The Rummage sale was a huge success with a profit of approximately $2800. The group has agreed to
the following expenditure of the revenues: $200 bonus to Ron Lawson, new stove for the kitchen, vent stove to the outside of the
building, paint east entry way and stairwell to basement, investigate cost of filling cracks in parking lot drive way and restriping parking
lot. The group is considering the next sale to be in the summer of 2012 as more volunteers may be available in the summer.
In a typed report Norma noted she regrets many of the community
outreach interests have been curtailed and hopes they will again be
included in our expenditures.
Motion to adjourn by Craig, 2nd by Glennie. Adjourned at 12:32

Member's Corner: Tell Us About your Pet
We'd love to hear from you & learn more about you, Unity of Rockford members…. but, since everyone
seems to be too shy to talk about themselves, why not see if people will share about their pets??!!
Please submit information & photos on you and/or your pets so we can get to know each other a little
better and enjoy a few smiles.
Freckles (aka Freckles Warrior Princess) is an 11-year-old shih tzu mutt who
has volunteered to serve as an example for the "Member's Corner" this
month. You will not find a dog more loyal than Freckles, as evidenced here
in the photo--she wouldn't think of leaving her master's side during a recent
health challenge. Freckles is a retired "Canine Good Citizen" and registered
therapy dog. She loves peanut butter, going for walks, putting the
neighbor dog in its place & visiting with Jackie! She thanks the Unity
congregation for their well wishes and healing thoughts during her brush
with death this spring, as she is now completely recovered (she remains a
medical mystery, per the vet). Although she was raised in the Catholic
tradition & is quite fond of St. Francis, she has decided Unity is more to her
