The Kerala Muslim Educational Association (KMEA) was established way back in the year 1957 with the noble aim of setting up educational and social institutions. KMEA promotes education and training among minority communities by providing financial assistance to the economically weak and deserving students. Late Sri. Poker Sahib, an eminent Parliamentarian and Philanthropist, and late Sri. K. M. Seethi Sahib, former speaker of the Kerala Legislative assembly were the key forces behind the formation of KMEA. The former Chief Minister of the Kerala late C. H.Mohammed Koya had also actively participated in the formation of the Association. The KMEA group has grown by leaps and bounds over the years and dedicated to society by setting up a large number of institutions that help in mounting a highly educated generation both technically and socially.

KMEA Engineering College is situated at Edathala near Aluva in Ernakulam district, a rural area of immense scenic beauty. The environment friendly and scenic atmosphere of the campus that spread over an area of 25 acres of land provides a refreshing ambience for the mind and soul. The College approved by AICTE is affiliated to both Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam and A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University Thiruvanathapuram. The Institution has grown many folds in just over 15 years and became one of the major institutions among engineering Colleges in Kerala.

The College houses an Electronics Incubation Centre, established by Govt. of Kerala, first of its kind in the new generation Engineering College. College has also been recognized as a remote Centre of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai. The remote centre conducts workshops and faculty development programmes for faculty of Engineering colleges and hence creates a virtual environment of the IIT in the college campus.

The College has established INFINITY, the first mirror web server in Asia for TRISQUEL and the first MIRROR web site in South India for GNU. The Campus is connected with State of The Art Wi-Fi system for effective communication, data storage and accurate & fast decision making. The college regularly conducts Faculty Development programs, seminars and workshops both at the national and international level, attracting good response from the academia and industry, ultimately providing platform to the faculty to share and exchange ideas and update knowledge and skill-set in their subject domain.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria of admission in KMEA Engineering

College under Govt. Merit quota is based on the entrance test as

mentioned in the KEAM prospectus published by Kerala CEE.

Seats under Management quota will be filled from the rank list of

entrance examination conducted by the Admission Supervisory

Committee constituted by the Government of Kerala.

Eligibility for admission to the B.Tech. programme, admission

policy and procedure shall be decided from time to time by

following the guidelines issued by the Government of Kerala and

other statutory body such as KTU, AICTE etc. Eligibility criteria for

admission is currently prescribed by the Government of Kerala

through Government orders, which is based on the entrance

examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance

Examinations, Government of Kerala and the marks in the

qualifying examination subject to the relaxations allowed for

backward classes and other communities as specified from time to

time. Application forms can be downloaded from the official

website of the College (www.kmeacollege.ac.in).

KMEA management offers attractive scholarships and fee

waiver schemes for the academically excellent, economically

backward and meritorious students. In the last 5 years alone, the

scholarships & stipends amounted to more than One Crore

Rupees. Meritorious students of scholarship exams conducted by

KMEA are admitted under suitable scholarship schemes. Further

Academic support

The student centered academic environment and wellmaintained infrastructure facilities make the College unique in the field of technical education in the state of Kerala. It functions with highly qualified, competent and well trained faculty who have expertise in their respective subject domains. The main objective is to equip its aspirants attain technical education without compromising on quality and professionalism.

The Student branches of Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and Computer Society of India (CSI) are functioning in the College and are very active in conducting National level Workshops, Seminars, Quiz, Orientation Sessions and Technical talks for the benefit of students. Branch wise associations are also functioning under each department to promote the technical talents of students.

Learning Resources

Central Library of the College serves as a knowledge hub containing the resources not only in the form of print but also in e-resources and provide students with access to a vast repository of resources including books and journals both printand online. Digital Repository preserves and enables easy and open access to all types of digital content and the NPTEL server is working on the intranet using NPTEL's interface, videos and contents. The library reading space can accommodate more than 200 students at a time.

Moodle e-learning or Learning Management system inthe institution is ideal for hosting online lectures. The FTP server, INFINITY, an international public server is deployed in the College, for the hosting and distribution of free software. The FTP server was inaugurated by Dr. Richard Matthew Stallman, founder of the Free Software movement.

Central Library

Multi Storey Central Library with reprographic facility has a seating capacity of 400 students in 1000 Sq m area. Library contains approximately 25,000 books, 85 journals and nearly 40 current periodicals. Our college is an institutional member of National Academic Repository, Govt. of India. The central library e-journal subscription includes IEEE, Science Direct etc that enables the faculty and students to refer around 4,57,000 articles. A comprehensive range of videos, DVDs, CD-ROMS, electronic resources, including e-journals, e-books etc is also available. D - Space, a repository of digital research materials is useful for scholarly work. There is good number of textbooks of almost all subjects taught in the college is made available in Book Bank section.

In addition to the Central Library, each department has library of its own with reference books relating to the field of respective topics and the published works of faculty. The purpose of this library is to update the knowledge of staffs and students of the department. It also keeps the records of student project works and seminars for reference.

Student - as a part of society

Social responsibility is a duty of every individual for

performing and maintaining a balance between the economic

and ecosystems. KMEA has well organised and very actively

functioning National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit and Pain and

Palliative Care Unit. Volunteerism and Leadership helps to

empower the students to become effective leaders and active

community members through participation in varied

experiences, programs and services. NSS Unit aims

personality development through community service under

the motto', Not Me But you'. The Pain and Palliative Care Unit

of the College has gone miles ahead by their active efforts in

taking care of the terminally ill patients.

Placement Activities

College has a Career Guidance and Placement Unit

(CGPU) to coordinate the placement activities. A full time

Placement Officer is also appointed to liaison with Industries in

Placement activities. The office is also assisted by staff and

student coordinators who lead a team of placement

representatives of various programmes. Specific training

programmes are being schemed to enhance the capabilities of

the students to meet the expectations of the industry.

Placement activities are being re-aligned to meet the current

challenges and the emerging marketing scenarios. The Alumni

of our College are placed in various reputed National and

Multinational companies like INFOSYS, TCS, CTS, WIPRO,

ORACLE, SASKEN, MPHASIS, BEL, ECIL, Intel, Samsung

Electronics, Sony, Toshiba, Philips Semiconductors, Texas

Instruments, LG Electronics, Nokia, AMD, CISCO, Nvdia, HP,

IBM and Huwaie. 50% of pass out students have got admission

in reputed universities, inside and outside India, for pursuing

higher studies.

Student Mentoring System

Mentoring system provides students with the

emotional and instrumental support. Mentors play an

important role in nurturing students by providing information,

guidance and encouragement. Mentoring involve the provision

of career, social, and emotional support for self-exploration

that results in positive academic and personal outcomes for

students. Mentoring in KMEA develops a rapport between

students and teachers. Three mentors are allotted in each

class for monitoring the academic performance of students to

improve the teaching learning process.

Academic Management System

Student’s performance can be improved through

continuous evaluation. Academic Management software has

been used to assist parents, teachers, students and

management in monitoring the attendance and academic

performance of students.

Sports

Academics, social activity and sports are linked components of our learning process. The College Physical Education Department takes great effort to provide students an opportunity to display their special talents and enable them to obtain great achievements. Our Sports complex is well equipped with all necessary infrastructure facilities for indoor and outdoor sports. The College teams of Football, Volleyball, Badminton and Cricket participate in various local and national level tournaments. College offers students a variety of excitingand challenging sports activities in their curriculum. 'AHAS', the annual intercollegiate sports tournament organized by the College is dedicated to the memory of Sri. Abdulla Haji Ahammed Sait, founder secretary of KMEA

Hostel facilities

Separate hostels are provided for boys and girls near to the campus. Each hostel has its own dining hall and delicious food is served in the mess. Special care is taken to keep the hostels neat and hygienic. Study time in the hostels is strictly maintained under the supervision of the wardens and resident tutors. The hostels are considered by many students as a second home.

Canteen and College store

College has spacious canteen facility in the College. Canteen can conveniently accommodate 200 persons at a time and offers high quality food at very affordable rates to students and faculty members. A canteen committee comprising of students and faculty ensures the quality and hygiene of the College canteen. A college store is functioning in the campus managed by Stores Management Committee comprising of faculty members representing all departments. All stationary items are made available in the College store at reasonable rates.

Transport facility

A full fledged high class Transport facility is available in the College to commute students and staff from various places in and around the city. This service is offered ensuring a hassle-free and safe transportation and the operation is monitored by a staff in- charge in each college bus. All our buses are equipped with good facilities and operated in good condition.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) in the college is effective among students in undertaking risk bearing activities, developing skills in identifying opportunities, preparing plans, utilization of available resources for managing an enterprise. The IEDC cell provides interactive sessions with entrepreneurs to familiarize the students with the latest developments in business. Necessary funds for IEDC are received from District Industries Centre and Government agencies.

Skill Development Programmes

Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP)

KMEA Engineering college is selected to host various skill development programmes under Additional Skill Acquisition Programme, ASAP, a joint initiative of the Departments of Higher Education and General Education, Goverment of Kerala. ASAP is one of the premier skill development initiatives of the country utilizing the infrastructural facilities and in house resource persons. It amplifies the working hand in different sectors of the economy, by providing additional skill sets to students along with their regular courses, which is a prerequisite for employment opportunities in the competitive world. The students are given skill training based on their aptitude in crucial skill sectors in the emerging job market. ASAP has touched the lives of many needy students, augment their domain knowledge, soft skills, leadership skills and industry relevant competency.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)

The college hosts three courses under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the flagship outcome-based skill training scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Technology Empowerment Programme Cell

Technology Empowerment Programme Cell was constituted in the college on January 12th 2016.
