The linear counter placement directly creates a linear circulation Every element such as lighting, seating and handrails therefore follows the gravitiy pull to the back of the restuarant Mcdonald’s located in midtown manhattan displays awareness of sustainability in material as well as having a clear layout The large red dotted circle shows the point of the gravitational pull. This multi triangular system is a result of placing a linear counter at the back, on the opposite side of the enterance and exit. Irving Farm Coffee located in one of the most busy transportation hub provides the fastest circulation as well as the strongest gravitation towards the counter Lighting, high porosity and low privacy are the main factors that complete this design It is a simple solution for a high foot traffic location Naya Express located in midtown manhattan presents the most clear layout design which controlls the speed of the traffic effectively The counter placement is located directly opposite of the enterance and there is only one area of seats Through simple organization of the layout, it creates a high visibility towards the counter which in turn has a stronger gravitational pull These fast food & fast casual restuarants are similiary organized by carefully controlled elements that determine its title: fast food or fast casual? COUNTER : represents food creates focus creates direction LIGHTS: determines privacy creates path determines speed- bright=fast pace dim= slow pace PARTITION: creates direction organizes traffic provides privacy SEATING: determines visibility determines privacy: -single= private -group=low privacy MATERIAL: determines type of audience determines the speed according to the temperature of the color suggests sustainability awareness Utilizing these elements in the design, these restaurants successfully create practical, and a strong connection from their food with design The strongest element that Chipotle can add is a clear focus on the service counter that effectively connects to food, people and transitory environement.
