  • Pujya Gurudev Swami ChinmayanandaFounder, Chinmaya Mission

Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji, spiritually awakened by Param Pujya Swami Tapovan Maharaj, sought to spread Vedantic knowledge to the masses. His first Jnana Yagna

held in Pune in December 1951 was followed up with 576 Jnana Yagnas and countless family

spiritual camps across the globe transforming millions of lives.

Chinmaya Mission was formed as a spiritual movement in 1953 to propagate Vedanta, with the motto:

“To give maximum happiness to maximum people for maximum time.”

H.H. Swami SwaroopanandaHead, Chinmaya Mission Worldwide

Born and bred in the bustling commercial capital of India, Swami Swaroopananda first encountered Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda at a relatively young age through a copy of Gurudev’s

    commentary on the Bhagawad Geeta.

Enchanted with Pujya Gurudev and the sheer breadth and depth of Vedanta, Swamiji gave up his

family’s thriving business and joined the Vedanta Course under Pujya Gurudev and Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda at Sandeepany Sadhanalaya, Mumbai, in 1984 and was initiated into the monastic order on the auspicious Shivratri of 1992. In an era rife with skepticism and confusion about matters spiritual, Swami Swaroopananda is a rare voice that blends authenticity with accessibility; theory with self- practice; logic with heart. Currently serving as the Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide and also as the Chairman of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth Trust, Swamiji’s profound insights into modern personal and corporate life, coupled with his humane and down-to-earth approach, makes him a unique spiritual leader and mentor. Besides presiding at ‘Jnana Yagnas’, Swamiji has authored original commentaries on Ik Onkaar, Sankat Mochan, Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and books on diverse spiritual and lifestyle topics for the modern man and woman. He also created the proprietary self-development course Make It HappenTM, currently used as a human resource training module at various corporate organisations.

Pratah Smarami - 3 Meditative Verses (With Guided Meditation)These three meditative verses are chanted as Hymns before meditation. A seeker of truth recites these three verses which describe the indication of ‘Brahman’. The first verse explains the real nature of Atma (The Self) telling that ‘I am not the perishable body but immortal Brahman.’The second verse tells about the technique of achieving the state of Supreme Being which is advised in Veda. The third verse talks about the nature of this world which is superimposed on pure consciousness. Thus continuous recitation of these verses is very much helpful in tuning the mind for reaching the highest state in meditation.

Geeta Chapter 12 (Bhakti Yoga)The 12th Chapter of Bhagawad Geeta – the Yoga of Devotion begins with Arjun asking the Lord ‘between the worship of Iswara with form and without form, which method is superior?’ Sri Krishna recommends that to worship Lord with form is easier than the formless. Worship of formless is very difficult for most devotees. He points out the main thing in worship is the single pointed devotion. Further Lord gives out a list of steps to attain oneness with Iswara.

In short, is idol worship justified? Can it provide helpful props for the meditative mind to swing on and dive into infinity? It can, what exactly is the technique? The entire chapter is dedicated to answer this question. Thus the chapter ends with a list of 39 qualities of a perfect and dear devotee. Pujya Swami ji will expound elaborately on this chapter during his talks.
