This 70 year-old fiber group consists of approximately 60 members who are interested in not only weaving, but spinning, crocheting, knitting and felting. During the fashion show, guests will see a wide array of handmade, wearable art - much of it for sale. The event will be emcee'd by one of the members and guests are encouraged to ar- rive early since seating is limited. The doors will open at 1:00. After the fashion show, the work will remain hanging at the Chesterton Art Center through April 27. The exhibit will consist of not only wearable work, but homegoods and tapestries as well. The Duneland Weaver's Guild meets on the second Saturday of each month beginning in September and ending in May. The Chesterton Art Center will host work by their children'sclasses in an exhibit titled, "Cabaret of Art" during the month ofApril. Artist OpportunitiesThe Depot Museum and Art Gallery in Beverly Shores is launching “5x5 at the Depot” - Guidelines for Artists To participate in this exhibition we ask artists to donate one (or more) works of original art.Artists may work in any medium, and do not have to use a 5x5 canvas. The work must be able to hang on the wall and be 5”in height, 5” in width, and not exceed 5” in depth. Artists must firmly attach a label with their contact information (name, email, and telephone number) on the back of eachpiece. We ask that artists sign their work on the back. We want patrons to purchase work solely because they are drawn tothe work. Donated work becomes the property of the Depot Museum and Art Gallery. The Depot may use the art donated byartists in promotions for the event. Any works that are not sold can be picked by the artist during regular gallery hours May26th and 27th. Art Barn - Call for Entries - 25th Annual Juried Art ExhibitionThe exhibition is open to artists at least 18 years of age. All entries must be the original work of the artist, executed solely bythe artist. All work must be for sale. Artists 25 years of age or under are eligible for the $200 Jan Sullivan Emerging ArtistAward. Free standing three-dimensional media cannot be accepted. Work must be framed or finished in gallery wrap, labeledand ready to be hung. No sawtooth hangers. Size Limitations: Work must not exceed 40”x 44”including frame and must not exceed 4” in depth. Entry Fee: $25 per artist for two (2) entries. $5 for an additional entry. Notmore than three (3) entries per artist. The View As We See It - The Chesterton Art Center’s Annual Photography Show. Open to all amateur photograhers age 18and older. Amateur means you do not make your living from photography. The Chesterton Art Center/ Association of Artists and Craftsmen of Porter County is offering theGloria Rector Memorial Scholarship to a Porter County high school senior graduating in the classof 2018 and planning to attend college to major in an art-related field.The scholarship is named in the memory of Gloria Rector, the first Executive Director of the Chesterton ArtCenter who passed away in 2017. Gloria was a teacher, artist, visionary, and leader - just a few of themany gifts she shared with the Chesterton Art Center throughout her life. To apply for this $1000 scholarship, applicants will need to submit a portfolio of work (including both 2D &3D), sketchbooks or art journals, and an informational form included in the prospectus. All materials must

be submitted by April 13 before 3 p.m. The winner will be notified by April 20 and portfolios/sketchbooks can be picked upanytime after April 20.The official prospectus will be downloadable from the website at www.chestertonart.com. Mary Ann Pals had her pastel painting titled Hawk-eye accepted into the IAPS 32nd Juried Exhibition atthe American Art Company Gallery in Tacoma, WA.The show runs Mar 16-Apr. 28, 2018. This accept-ance gives Mary Ann one more point toward her In-ternational Master Circle status with IAPS.

Award-winning photographer Josh Merrill will pres-ent his "Night Photography" program 7 pm Tuesday,April 10, 2018 at Fairmeadows Community Church,1601 Fran-Lin Parkway in Munster, IN. Visitors arewelcome to attend the presentation, a monthly edu-cational program of the Calumet Region Photo Club.Merrill leads photo workshops in places like Colorado,the Canadian Rockies, the American Southwest,Death Valley, and Norway. Over the past severalyears, Josh has been especially focused on photo-graphing night skies throughout the United States.From short exposures that capture the majesty of theMilky May’s galactic core, to multi-hour exposuresthat emphasize the earth’s rotation in relation to thestars, the night skies are full of incredible photographypotential. In Josh’s presentation, he will share his ap-proach to night photography, and will give you all thetools necessary to begin a foray into the addictingworld of astrophotography. He will cover the all-im-portant planning/scouting stage, as well as a discus-sion on the equipment necessary. Finally, he’ll explainthe execution of photographing stars as points (in-cluding the Milky Way), long exposure star trails, andNorthern Lights. Critique Night is held thefirst Wednesday of each month.

Mark VanderVinne is the host. Next Critique Nighttakes place on Wednesday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Guests are welcome with no prior registration re-quired. All ability levels and artistic styles are encour-aged to attend. While Mark is a painter, he will be ableto advise artists in other mediums as well.

Adult Art ClassesMonday Night Life DrawingLife Drawing Open Studio is back on Monday nights from 6:30-9:30. A variety of clothed models ofdifferent ages and genders will be provided. This is an open studio setting, so each participating artistneeds to come prepared with their own supplies and will be asked to clean up afterwards. This is nota structured class, but some instruction and critique are available if needed. The cost of each sessionis $10, plus a tip for the model.Monday Night Ceramics with Tom CerniusStarts April 2 from 5:30-8:30. During this 5-week class, beginning students will develop fundamentalwheel-throwing techniques, while returning students will refine their skills to create more complexprojects. Tom will perform short demonstrations while assisting students individually to improve theirthrowing skills. Hand-building and sculpture are also encouraged. Students can try slab-building,pinch-pot hand-building, as well as basic sculptural techniques - including figurine/small statue con-struction. All pieces will be glazed during the final class.The cost is $135, with members receiving a$25 discount. The cost of clay is an additional $15, payable to the instructor on the first day of class.All other supplies are included.Cell Phone Photography with George Kassal3-weeks, starting Wednesday, April 11 from 6-9. George will teach you to take better pictures using asmartphone, regardless of the make or model. You’ll learn how to achieve clear and properly exposedphotos, as well as how to best use editing apps and photo sharing services, like Instagram. Class isdesigned for both beginners and those with some experience. Cameras on smartphones have im-proved a lot in recent years and are now capable of producing images on par with many conventionaldigital cameras. This class will improve each student's knowledge of the features and techniquesneeded to create wonderful images. The cost for class is $65, with members receiving a $20 discount.

Beach Glass Suncatchers with Jayde McAloonSaturday, April 28 from 10-12. Jayde will guide students in craft-ing their very own suncatcher using beach glass. Each studentis welcome to bring their own beach glass, or a limited amountwill be provided at the class. Participants have a choice ofshapes to choose from, and it will be ready to hang and enjoywhen class is finished. Cost is $50, with members recieving a$20 discount.

NEW! Kid’s Ceramic Workshop with Kristy HorbKristy Horb will be teaching a 2-day Kids Ceramics Work-shop, creating a bird's nest with eggs starting April 21.The two sessions will be held Saturday, April 21 from 9-10:30, and Saturday, April 28 from 9-10. Students will beable to explore hand building with clay to create thissweet little project. Students will create the nest duringthe first session and will then add glazes during the second session. All finished pieces will be readyfor pick-up the following week (after May 1). Children currently enrolled in kindergarten through fifthgrade are welcome to participate. Class is limited to (12) students to allow for plenty of individual at-tention. The cost is $45, plus a $10 supply fee. Students that are part of a family membership withthe Chesterton Art Center will receive a $20 discount to participate. Reserve your child’s spot now!

Our ongoing children's art classes at theChesterton Art Center run through the end ofthe school year. The goal is to introduce children to various

artists, their styles and techniques, with proj-ects reflecting what they are learning. Classes meet weekly and are open to all

ages and skill levels. Several mediums willbe used including drawing, painting, papiermache, mosaic, sculpture, collage and more.Call for more information.

The featured artist for April is EdwardHopper. Hopper lived from 1882-1967 andwas known for his realistic oil paintings.Scenes from urban and rural settings weretypical of his work portraying modern Amer-ica. Students will learn about Hopper andcreate projects based on his notable style.
