Anti Bullying Policy

Our aim:

Our aim is to promote a harmonious environment for all setting users where we treat each other with mutual respect.

Definition of bullying

‘Bullying is repeated verbal, physical, social or psychological aggressive behaviour by a person or group directed towards a less powerful person or group that is intended to cause harm, distress or fear.’Therefore any form of physical, verbal, racial, or emotional abuse or such like from any staff, children, parents/carers or any of the settings users will lead to expulsion from the setting. This includes intimidation, segregation or ignoring.

How we achieve this with the children:

We discourage any inappropriate behaviour such as hitting, smacking, spitting, swearing or such like (refer to behaviour policy)

How do we prevent this:

By using methods of distraction before situations arise.

By observing the children and keeping accurate records.

By working closely with parents and carers to change any patterns of unwanted behaviour in the setting or at home.

By encouraging the children to have respect for each other, staff and their environment. We implement this through consistent rules and boundaries which staff and children made together.

By accessing help and support from outside agencies.

By encouraging all staff to work harmoniously as a team and provide a calm atmosphere so the children can learn from example.

We use a positive approach and encourage all setting users to use the same approach. We focus on what the child can do as opposed to what then cannot do.

We do not use the word ‘naughty’ and discourage the children from using negative words with each other.

To encourage the children to effectively play together and help each other on a positive manner.

How we achieve this with all adult setting users:

- If it is a staff member that are accused of bullying any other adult then the matter will be dealt with immediately by the manager. This could lead to the disciplinary process. Bullying a child is considered abuse - refer to Safeguarding Policy.

- If parents/carers are bullying then they could result in losing their place with no notice given. No fees will be refunded.

- If it is the child bullying then we will liaise with the parents/carers and the school and outside help if needed.

We are a NO SMACKING CENTRE. We have a duty of care to report any incidents where we witness a parent or carer smacking or inflicting any other form of abuse to a child in their care. If we feel the child is at risk then this may be reported without parent’s/carers knowledge.

All staff, parents and carers are included in the policy making process at Cheeky Monkeys Day Nursery. All policies are reviewed annually or in the event of any changes needing to be made.
