Unfortunately Matua René, our Te Reo tutor, had to leave at the end of last term for family reasons. The staff would like to thank him for his excellent lessons. He’s an expert in Maurakau and Kapa Haka. We thought our teachers would have to take Te Reo themselves. But luckily Matua René met Whaea Jonyne and suggested she apply for his job at Edmonton. Whaea Jonyne is a qualified teacher and has a lot of experience in Te Reo. She already works in other local schools and comes to us every Wednes- day. Whaea Jonyne also takes the Kapa Haka group with the help of an assistant. Welcome to our school Whaea Jonyne! Today, Tuesday 15th of May, Room 6 and 9 went to Room 5 to meet a famous au-thor named John Parker. He is here be-cause its book week. When we met him he showed us his published work and a draft copy. After that he told us where his ideas come from. Then he showed the photos of olden times. Next he read a story to us that he wrote. The story was called ‘Old Toby’. We asked him ques-tions and he answered them. He is a nice man. I wonder if I could see him again!

Today Rooms 6 and 9 met a New Zealand author named John Par-ker. He came to Edmonton Primary School because it was book week. When we met him he introduced himself. The next thing was that he showed us some pictures on the o.h.p. about world wars one and two. Later on he read us a book that was called ‘Old Toby’. The book was about a cat that won’t wake up. After that John Parker showed us his draft work. Later he showed his published work. At the end we got to ask questions. The questions were: “What was the longest book you’ve written?” “What was the shortest book you’ve written?” and “Was the book Biddles about your cat?”. At the very end Izy and Hemaima said something nice.
