2015 Local Course Guide Date of issue: January 2015 This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously. Further Study Pathways After achieving this Certificate III qualification, learners may continue their studies in CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Employment Opportunities This course may provide employment opportunities in centre- based care, occasional care, out of school hour’s care and family day care. Job roles include: Occupational titles for these workers may include: Early childhood educator Playgroup supervisor Family day care worker Nanny Childhood Educaion Assistant Mode of Study Classroom theory Practical ‘hands-on’ experience Field trips Self-directed learning Industry work placement Assessment Learners will be assessed through questioning, projects, case scenarios, research, observation in the workplace. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) A learner may be entitled to gain unit of competency credits or recognition, if what they have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to the course. SCEI recognises the AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations. For further information see the RPL brochure or visit www.scei.edu.au Entry Requirements To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, individuals would need to demonstrate a capacity to undertake study at Certificate III level, this can be demonstrated via the following: Aged 18 years or above Successful completion of Year 10 or the equivalent level of CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care Southern Cross Education Institute Campus Available Melbourne Adelaide 27 study Successful completion of SCEI’s Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Indicator Mature aged who have diverse academic, work and life experiences are encouraged to enrol. The definition of a mature aged student for SCEI’s purposes is a person over 21 years of age that hasn’t been studying at either year 12 level or university/TAFE level for at least 7 years and are an Australian or New Zealand citizen (or Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent Humanitarian Visa). Police clearance certificate (from home country) Additional Requirements Learners must undertake National Police Check and Working with Children Check before commencing work placement.
