About Chase It !

3

The Chase It! Summer 2013 programme consists of a number of great days out and a whole host of other activities, open to all children and young people living in Cannock Chase.

The programme is supported by Aiming High and delivered by WLCT on behalf of Cannock Chase Council, and aims to enhance social skills and personal development, increase confidence and raise levels of self esteem whilst developing a sense of achievement. The programme also aims to deliver a “healthy lifestyles” message to all children and young people who take part, supporting the governments “Change4Life” campaign.

Whilst all activities are excellent value for money, you can make some great savings using WLCT’s Lifestyle Card (50% concessionary element) discount scheme. Some children may even be eligible for free places if they:

• Are disabled or have special needs

• Have mental health issues

• Are from families who receive income benefits

• Are referred by any organisation that supports children and young people

Free places on activities are limited. All trips are subject to availability. There is a booking form in the centre of this brochure for all the ‘Great Days Out’ detailed on pages 4-8. Bookings for all other activities should be made via the contact details provided.

For further information, please contact the Chase It! Bookings Officer on 01543 501519. The Chase It! scheme is constantly updated, so for more information, or to keep up to date with new programmes and activities, visit our website www.wlct.org/cannock

Page 9: Chase It! Summer 2013

The Chase It! team are committed to providing a high quality service to you, our customer. This includes ensuring that the following standards of service are adhered to.

• We will answer your queries promptly and in a professional manner• We will endeavour to keep your child safe at all times• We will endeavour to make your child’s experience of the scheme a happy, fun and enjoyable one• We will reward and recognise those children whose behaviour is good• We will act as positive role models for children within our care• We will develop good relationships with all children who take part in the scheme by spending time with them and listening to what they have to say

In the interest of your child’s welfare and safety, your child will be given a Chase It! t-shirt and drinks bottle when signing in on their first trip, these must be used on every trip your child takes part in thereafter.

• T-shirts must be worn to enable our staff to recognise your child as a member of the Chase It! scheme quickly and easily• Drinks bottles and access to drinking water will be made available to reduce the risk of dehydration on hot days.

Our staff are not permitted to provide or administer sun cream, we would strongly advise parents to provide both sun cream and a sun hat for your child. Our staff will however remind children throughout the day about the dangers of the sun.

Your child will not be allowed to take part in any Chase It! activity unless they are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for the activity they are taking part in.

And finally, the Chase It! scheme is in support of Change4Life. In order to maintain a healthy weight we need to both eat better and move more. Many families are making changes that will help them live healthier and longer lives. Visit www.nhs.uk/changelife or call 0300 123 4567 for more information.

SPARE PLACES POLICYOn some occasions, we may have spare places available at short notice. So as not to waste these places the team will allocate these at the last pick up point, for further information please contact the Chase It! Bookings Officer on 01543 501519.

Code of Conduct

10

In order to maintain a safe and happy environment for all young people taking part in the Chase It! Summer programme, we require all children to adhere to the following code of conduct:

1 Respect each otherTreat each other the way you would like to be treated.

2 No bullyingBullying is anything that makes someone feel uneasy, it includes name calling or any form of physical abuse.

3 Do not take matters into your own handsWhatever your concern, do not deal with it yourself. Always ask a leader for help.

4 Never disobey a leaderTheir aim is to make sure everyone enjoys themselves, but above all else, to make sure you are safe.

5 Respect the coach, the equipment and the venueAlways treat them as you would treat your own. When they are damaged it spoils it for everyone else.

6 Never leave the area where the activities are taking placeThe leaders need to know where you are to make sure you are safe. If you need to go to the toilet, tell them.

7 Zero toleranceAny form of negative shouting, swearing or racism is strictly forbidden.

Parents / Guardians shall be informed in the event of their child breaking the code of conduct. The programme operates a yellow / red card policy, used at the discretion of senior members of staff.

Prince of Wales centre“SEUSSICAL” - SUMMER WORKSHOP & PERFORMANCE

Ambient Night Productions and the Prince of Wales Centre are teaming up to offer young performers aged 7-18 the chance to workshop and then perform in this exciting production of Seussical.

“I can see that you’ve quite a mind for your age! Why, one Think and you dragged me right onto the stage! Now, I’m here, there is no telling me what may ensueWith a Cat such as me, and a Thinker like you!”

So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza. Come and meet all your favourite Dr Seuss characters including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all the Whos of Whoville.
