in the photographic spirit of the Fotofest 2014 Biennial, William reaves Fine art is pleased to feature paintings by houston artist Charles Ford, in an online exhibition entitled Charles Ford: Texas Photorealism.

in his paintings, Ford captures the changing face of the magnolia City, painting a wide range of subjects from iconic city landmarks - such as the river oaks Theater and the old harold’s Department store - to those typically overlooked by the hurried passersby. his portfolio also includes City hall, sam houston Park, Buffalo Bayou; as well as the Transco water tower, firestations and popular haunts like the West alabama ice house.

Through his meticulous attention to detail, Ford has unique ability to single out moments and capture the character at the heart of his chosen location. each Texas scene exudes a true sense of place through his particular use of light, shadow, reflection, and color.

Just as his forbearers of the american photo-realist movement of the late 1960s, such as in the work of richard estes and Chuck Close, Ford’s paintings demonstrate the way photography became assimilated into the art world. as such, Ford typically works from color photographic stills to create paintings that appear to be photographs or almost mechanical in representation.

Ford’s efforts result in a series of consistently elegant renditions of the Texas scene, all characterized by exceptional composition and strong elements of color and light. We recommend his work as yet another spectacular manisfestation of contemporary Texas realism and encourage patrons to take a strong look.

in addition to the works available in our online exhibition, Ford accepts commissions by art patrons who have a specific beloved place, of present or times past, in mind for a desired painting.

For more information on Charles, his works or to commission a painting, contact the gallery at 713-521-7500 or email our Gallery Director, sarah Foltz at [email protected].
