Chapter 3.1Scalars and Vectors
Review
• Scalar – magnitude and no direction – Example – speed of a car is 65 mph
• Vector – magnitude and direction– Example – ball is thrown down with
a velocity of -5 m/s
Addition of Vectors
• Resultant – a vector representing the sum of two or more vectors• Can be found by drawing to scale on
paper –Start with the tail at the head of the
first vector–Resultant can be found by connecting
the two vectors
Vector Subtraction
• To subtract a vector, add its opposite (vector with same magnitude but opposite in direction)
