• The First Step to Making a Decision The first

step in making a decision is to identify the problem.

When you know the real problem, you can begin to

figure out what decision to make.

Consider Your Values

• The Second Step to Making a Decision Knowing

your values will help you make good decisions.

Values are the beliefs that you consider to be of

great importance.

List the Options

• What Are Your Choices? Options are different

choices that you can make. The best way to identify

your options is by brainstorming with several other

people.

Weigh the Consequences

• What Are the Benefits and Risks? When you

weigh the consequences of a possible decision,

you compare the benefits and risks of your options.

Every option will have risks and benefits to

consider.

Decide, and Act

• Taking Action You have done your best to think

about your options. Now you are ready to act on

your decision. Think hard. Some decisions can be

made only once. When you make your choice, take

action!

• After the Decision Is Made These are some

questions you can ask yourself to make sure you

are making good decisions:

1. Did I uphold my values?

1. Do my parents approve of my choice?

1. Do I feel good about my actions?
