Rectilinear Motion Examples 1: Viscosity

Let’s set up an experiment to determine the viscosity of a

fluid. By dropping the ball into a column of fluid, the

acceleration of the ball is then obtained as

where c depends on the fluid viscosity.

Find

a) the terminal velocity of the ball (the column is high

enough)

b) the distance needed to achieve 95% of this terminal

velocity
